She woke up and burst her eyes open. She found herself staring up at a wooden roof. Her first genuine thought was ”Home”. Quickly, she sat up. With a feeling of great disappointment, she realized that she wasn't home at all. Beside her on different mattresses lied two boys. Tyson and Ray slept calmly, she envied them. They didn't have a problem in the world. They were home, safe and free. They didn't have a quest they must complete, even if it would cost them their lives. She had and she envied them. She lied down again and thought that she would go back to sleep. But it didn't work, so she decided to get up and dress before they woke up. She took a jump and landed smoothly on the floor. Without making any noise, she picked her clothes up and snuck off to the bathroom.

Tyson awoke by the sound of his groaning stomach. He sat up and looked around him. By his side, Ray slept calmly. On the other side of him sat Anya in her bed. She was reading a tourist -brochure. ”Find your way in Tokyo,” the colorful cover said. It had taken them some time and persuasion to talk her into staying at his place. She was very stubborn and repeatedly maintained that she'd rather sleep under the bare sky. He pulled off his cover and swung his legs over the edge of his bed. Anya looked up.

”Good morning, I sure hope you're not thinking about running away to Tokyo,” he said, while smiling just to show her that he was just kidding. She gave him a little smile and answered

”I was thinking about it for a while, but after reading this brochure I decided to stay” By her words, Tyson's stomach made a high groaning sound, and Ray moaned and woke up. He sat up and while rubbing his eyes he said

”Not even Cinderella could sleep to the sound of your stomach Tyson” Anya and Tyson laughed. Ray looked a bit bummed, he'd slept so good. The boys got dressed and the three of them went to the kitchen too feed Tyson. Anya tried to help them prepare breakfast, but since she didn't know where everything was, she wasn't much help. She gave up and sat down by the table.
Since Tyson was busy, shuffling food into his mouth, Ray told her everything about today's practice.

”Okay, today we're going to practice here at Tyson's place. Since you're new Kai will want to challenge you to test your limits. He always does that. We're only training in the glen when it's flexibility -training. I guess it was you who knocked -off Xinou's blade the other day right?” Ray gazed at her, his cat eyes tried to read some kind of reaction in hers. Anya answered

”Yes, that would have been me. I slept in a nearby glen when I heard some racket and thought that I should check it out. I saw you guys and thought it looked like you needed some help. When that guy rushed off I tried to follow him bur I soon lost track” She looked back at him. Her green gaze seemed to search trough every inch of his soul. He got the feeling that she could see right trough him. ”So, where do the others live?” she continued

”Max lives with his father a few blocks away. His mom is a Beyblade -scientist, she works in the U.S. Kenny lives with his parents down the street and Kai… well no one knows where Kai lives. But it doesn't really matter, soon we'll be going off for the World Tournament” They chatted a while during the time Tyson finished his breakfast and them they went out to meat the others

Ray had been right. Kai wanted a match against her before they would start practicing. He seemed just as cheery as normal. With a bitter voice, he told Max to count them in.

”3… 2… 1… Let it rip!” Max yelled and their blades spun down to the bottom of the pitch. Kai made his blade attacking her non -stop. Even though, she soon got the upper hand. She was just about to order her Nazgul to knock him out when she felt a blast of light hit her mind like a sledge. Images, memories flooded into her mind. She saw a young boy with slate hair, he was being punished for showing weakness. Then she saw the same boy, sitting alone in a darkened room. A lonesome tear found its way down his left cheek. Without making a sound, the small boy cried in his loneliness… With a flash of light she returned to the presence. She felt a powerful sting of sorrow when she looked at the older version of the sad boy. The torment in his eyes was gone. His eyes were hard and cold. His posture suggested bitterness and hatred. But not for her, more like for the whole world. She felt like crying when she saw what the world had done to the young boy.

Kai made her return to reality when he suddenly ordered Dranzer to attack her with his full strength. The Phoenix emerged from his blade and with a fire blast it knocked her blade out of the bey-dish. She saw her blade shoot by her head and land on the ground behind her. She felt a bit shocked that she had let her mind slip so far away during a battle. Kai seemed to think the same thing

”What were you doing? You totally had the upper hand and then you just let me slip. I don't know if it was by mistake or meaning but you better not let in happened during the tournament” His purple eyes staring straight into hers. She once again thought about the young boy. She felt so sad.

Kai looked at her. She was so strange, at least the dream had gone away. He felt relieved, it had truly bothered him. Suddenly she looked sad. ”Why” he thought, but then decided he didn't care at all. When she didn't answer, he just said ”Fine, just don't let it happened again”
Then he left, leaving the others behind, wondering where he was going. As usual. Anya turned towards them and said

”He's such a cheery person” In her mind she still saw the sad picture of Kai in that awful dark room. She decided that since the others didn't seem to know anything about it, she should keep his secret safe.

”I admit he's not the happiest person that I've ever met, but he's okay once you get used to him. And he's a good leader” Max answered her while looking straight at her. He had the brightest blue eyes she had ever seen. ”And I think that maybe he has a reason not to be the happiest person ever. His grandfather sent him to some terrible place when he was younger. No one of us knows exactly what went on in that place, he doesn't like talking about it” She nodded, looking thoughtful.

They headed on with their training without Kai.

Anya sat on the top of a high cliff nearby Tyson's house. It was sunset. The sky was colored in a burning -red tone. It looked like it was on fire. It reminded her of that awful night so long ago.
The men who came sat her house on fire. Then they chased them out on the yard. When her father tried to protect them, the young girl Anya witnessed her father being pinned to the wall of the barn by a shiny sword. She saw his blood color the ground red. Then her mother grabbed her and with her brother by the hand, she ran out on their wide fields and forests. The men gained more and more on them, soon they would have caught up on them. Then her mother took a decision. She handed Anya over to her brother and told him to run as fast as he could to the north. She ran to the east to make the following men to lose track. Her brother ran with her in his arms, then they heard their mother's scream. The men had caught her at last. Anya looked beyond them and to her great horror, she saw that some of the men were still following them. They were far away but her bother couldn't run very fast with her in his arms so they would soon catch them. Her brother ran into some bushes. He sat her down and said that she should stay here and he would lead them off. He left her there and jumped out the bushes and continued running… She never saw him again
The grounds she grew up in were gone. She used to dream about her living there when she had grown up. The mustangs would live on her fields, wild and free. And the cattle would roam in their areas. Since that night, man had shot her mustangs, sold her cattle. They had tore down her house and built parking spaces and shopping mall's on her ground. Her home was gone forever, just like her dream. She bent down her head down, weeping silently. She mumbled

”Love is enough: though the World be a-waning,
And the woods have no voice but the voice of complaining,
Though the sky be too dark for dim eyes to discover
The gold-cups and daisies fair blooming thereunder,
Though the hills be held shadows, and the sea a dark wonder,
And this day draw a veil over all deeds pass'd over,
Yet their hands shall not tremble, their feet shall not falter;
The void shall not weary, the fear shall not alter
These lips and these eyes of the loved and the lover.”
