Beyblade Fan Fiction ❯ The Truth Behind Demons ❯ I'd Sip That If I Were You ( Chapter 10 )
Chapter 10.
Rei popped another mint into his mouth. He could still taste the pill he had taken on his way to Kai's house; last thing he wanted was a weird smell on his breath, then again, this idea seemed like a bad one altogether. He should have listened to Brooklyn- maybe they could have even hung out for a while.... Too late for changing his mind now the damage is done and the guy probably hates him. Though, anyone fool enough to compliment someone who just yelled at you can't be all that damaged.
"Close your eyes," he sang in a low voice; running his finger across a picket fence he began to pass. "Leave the world behind, find a place deep inside." Looking both ways at the stop sign, he crossed the street then stuck his finger out to resume what he was previously doing. "I hope I'm on the right street."
Looking around, the boy can see cars parked along side of the street and a few more steps ahead he could hear rather loud music disturbing the dead so it must be the right street. That, or someone else in the neighborhood was having a party. Stepping up to the door, he listened to the sounds on the other side. It sure sounded like everyone was having a good time, maybe he should go home? Turning around, he jumped hearing the front doors open behind him.
Spinning around Rei slaps a hand behind his head and places a grin on his face. "Ahaha, I thought this was the wrong house." He wanted to bite his tongue hearing how stupid that sounded. "I mean..."
Kai cocked a brow as though he hadn't heard a mutter the boy had said since his eyes were shifting back and forth in the semi-darkness like he were looking for something. "Hm."
Rei watched him suspiciously, then asked. "....A-... Are you looking for something?"
"Where's Lee?"
"Yeah, he had a lot of... No wait, he's on a date with his girlfriend," he said making sure to stress the 'girlfriend' sure that his brother would pat him on the back for it.
Kai didn't seem convinced, crossing his arms he said rather casually. "I wasn't aware that he had a girlfriend."
"Oh," he began to laugh uncomfortably. Someone took their 'desperate' pills this morning. Thinks the Chinese teen. "He doesn't tell me much about his girlfriends- But, I do know her name is Gisela."
"Okay.... What about you?"
"What about me?"
"Are you coming i-..."
Tala dropped an arm around his best friend, whispering something into the males ear before laughing about it, then turning his head he takes notice to who's at the door. "Gee Kai, just invite any loser off the street why don't you."
"Good to see you too." He turned on a prickly cats smile.
Tala looked bored by the comment so to find amusement he looked Rei over then laughed. "You're kidding me right? The library isn't even open today, Dexter, how 'bout you totter on home." He waved his hand, that held a glass of what looked like some kind of liquor, outward. Licking up the droplets that spilled over the side onto his hand, he then downed the rest before patting Kai on the shoulder. "Tell kitty litter to go home!" Walking away from the door into the crowd of people they heard the boy complain about something before his voice was drowned out.
"Ignore him."
Rei shrugs. "I do."
"Seriously though, you're a little over dressed for this party." Kai looked him up and down.
Looking Kai over Rei noted the other boys bare shoulders, long fingerless gloves, that his black shirt was so tight he could trace every muscle beneath it and leather pants that said we need space down here. Looking over his own clothes, he sighed. "You think so?"
"Maybe I should have been clear about the dress code. Come in," he waved him in. Reaching into a bowl for the last piece of paper inside, he shoved it at the over-dressed teen. "Just take off your vest and you should be fine."
"Uh... okay. Where's your bathroom?" He looked down at whatever it was Kai was now shoving into his hand. 50?
Smiling, Kai closed his eyes and mumbled something under his breath. "Here." He approached Rei, hands out, then he lifts the boys vest over his head. "People are either to into themselves or too drunk to pay attention to what anyone else is doing. Besides, nothing beats a free show."
"I guess."
"Are you always this skittish?"
"No."
Laughing, Kai takes the boys hand. "Just dance with me Rei."
Returning a laugh, he replied. "As long as you don't pretend that I'm Lee."
"Ha. You could never be Lee," he grabbed Rei's hips when he found a nice place in the center of the room. "I like you better." He adds with a smile that makes Rei believe him.
The two of them danced for a good many songs, a lot of them in Russian so he couldn't understand a word of it, but judging by the way everyone was grinding their hips together it had to be sexually related. Now that Rei gave notice, everyone in the place was dressed as though they were kinky underwear models. Hooks here, lots of leather there, zippers of all kinds in all kinds of places. It made Rei wonder what Kai did with his vest, seeing so much unfamiliar skin made him wanna cover up for some reason. He didn't wanna catch anything.
When the song ended, another came on with the same female vocals as the last one. asking Kai about who the singers are he replied something like, "Tattoos, Taboo," Rei wasn't sure because the music went from soft to loud in 30 seconds and the place was really jumping. It was almost suffocating. Leaning toward the pale males ear, he shouted-
"I'm gonna get something to drink!"
Nodding, Kai merely turned and danced with someone else. Rei watched a second wondering if the popularly quiet Russian really wanted him to stay or not. He couldn't tell, Kai's face never gave much away. Maybe he doesn't care that I'm here without Lee. Turning away from the implicated dance scene Kai and someone he didn't know were executing, Rei wandered to a table against the wall, maybe he could blend in with the wall paper- if there was any.
The house- or from what he could tell, is beautiful. It's the kind of place he and his village friends saw as high living and no one could ever afford it. The walls are a nice cream color or that could be from the lighting fixtures on the wall because rich people never lit their ceilings and at the ends of each wall stands kind of a pillar, not as nice as a roman one but it was still cute. The floor wasn't done in wood like Tyson's place, it was more modern like his uncles, of course and the carpet was non-existent since they only threw down what had to be a 2000 dollar rug with it's indian print and fine stitching. Too bad people are dancing on it.
As Rei located the tables he felt something shove him; it took that one little jar for the room to slow down. The music even softened; the voices low and dragged. Rei could hear his heart beating out over the slurred conversation.
We're all here with you Rei.
We're watching you.... We know that you're faking it.
It's just a matter of time before everyone else realizes you're faking it too.
Rei's breathing was harsher now. He could feel pains in his side. His head hurt, his mind was spinning. This felt like that time when he was back home.... it felt like when-... No... this can't happen again... I don't want this..... I-... He spun around when he felt someone touch him, ready to defend himself but all he saw was Ian- after glancing down. As the party began to pick up speed and return to normal, Rei could feel the air lifting.
"It's a lot safer to move with the crowd," comments the short Russian. "Otherwise you'll get knocked down."
"I'll remember that...." Holding his head, he walked over to the refreshment table with surprising ease. Knowing that Bryan was a step behind him, he leaned against the wall as though it were a fort of protection then he grabbed a cup from the table; knocking the bitter tasting fruit punch, he winced and put the cup back down then grabbed another.
Bryan laughed before he dug into his pocket revealing a small flask of what could only be alcohol. "You are aware the drinks aren't spiked with punch, right?" He gave the container a little jiggle. Rei slapped a hand to his mouth, causing the other boy to laugh. "Bathroom's that way, dude."
Rei nodded a thanks before heading off for the bathroom and he prayed that he made it. Parting through the dancers, he turned around when the lights flickered on then off twice before remaining on. Looking rather shocked, he wondered what the hell Tala had to say that he stood on the refreshment table to do so.
Glad I moved. Thinks the Chinese teen.
"Ladies two and gentlemen of 48- you were given a number when you walked in."
Everyone looked at the slip of paper they had stashed somewhere on their persons and looked inside, then back at Tala.
"We're gonna play a little game of hide-n-seek. Anyone with an even number, you're going to count, odds will hide anywhere in the house."
A low chatter began to pick up.
"The point of this game is to find someone- or some one's and you can do whatever you want with them for about.... a half hour before the game ends."
So many of them were getting excited now, thinking over any little naughty thing they could think of since that is what their red-haired friend was getting at.
"And any little cry babies out there dry your tears, we do provide base." Pointing over their heads. "You can make you're way through the darkness of the living room, dining room, kitchen and I think the porch until you're home free in the backyard. That's why the number is uneven- or if anyone doesn't mind a threesome. Okay?"
The even numbered people were making their way to Tala and the odds looked around for a direction to run in.
"Game begins when the lights are out, the count is to 70. Good luck!"
The butler by the wall flicked off the lights and kept them that way as the house guests ran amuck for somewhere safe. Rei planned on heading to the backyard, but his stomach was still turning from the shot he just had. The room was so dark it was almost as if the air had suddenly become visible. Looking left and right, he could imagine these people have been here before as they were like night owls hooting and laughing while taking cover and hoping someone they thought was cute found them.
Realizing he was standing still when he heard the number 33 shouted; he made a run for somewhere- anywhere he could hide without someone finding him. As he passed through the crowd with cat like ease the darkened shadows around him became more clear and apparent. Rei could see it now... he could see it. He remembered... He never forgot, how could he? How could anyone?! Spinning in a circle- at least he thought he was- Rei took a step back hitting something or someone. No it was something, why would he hit someone out in the woods? It's still back there and he has to get away! Running forward he bumped into a tree, scratching at the bark he found a branch sticking out so he gave it a squeeze nearly pulling it off as he opened the trunk and hid inside.
Still in solid blackness he felt forwards and noticed a fluffy material, dozens of them. He must be in a closet, he confirmed. Shaking off the mental games his little friends were playing on him, he concentrated on his location. Not the safest place but it will do since most of the seekers would naturally gravitate upstairs thinking that as the better place. Covering his ears, he sits to the floor and waits. It felt like five minutes before the counting stopped a while later and the hunt for skin began.
I can count the steps.... as soon as enough people have cleared out. I can make my way outside. The door swung open and the frightened boy bit his tongue in a gasp.... It remained open for a while it seemed; Rei wasn't about to open his eyes to check if any lights were on or if the sex perve was looking down waiting for him, then the door closed. Taking a breather, he jumped from start hearing someone laugh.
Scooting away from the, too close for comfort voice, he ranted with his hands out to protect his self. "I was trying to make my way to the backyard- I don't even like hide-n-seek, couldn't we just be friends or something?"
Whomever was in the closet seemed to have other ideas as he leaned over and crawled in the direction the other boy had scooted. "Are you nervous?"
"Not if I wanted to hurt you."
The person laughed again. "Rei calm down, it's just me. I won't do anything."
"Kai?"
Taking the boys hand as though his eyes were made for the darkness, he pulls him over to where he is and sits against the wall. "I knew you'd be against the game, so I watched where you went."
"How?" He was feeling a bit more relaxed now as he made himself comfortable beside Kai. "Did they turn the lights back on?"
"No. The seekers have night-vision goggles; should have seen the look on the face of the guy at the supply store when we told him how many we wanted." He chuckled to himself.
Rei could sense him moving a bit, but he wasn't uncomfortable, being alone with Kai felt familiar somehow. Almost soothing. "I'm glad you did.... I don't know why but.... large crowds just- freak me out a bit."
Kai wasn't sure why he said what he said next, maybe it was just reflex or maybe.... "I could tell, you looked a little lost- like a kitten wandering the street, I guess I just wanted to help you."
Rei was having a major sense of deja vu here. He could have sworn he had this conversation once before, but is that even possible? His lips moved in a familiar way, ready to go on with the dance of the conversation. "I'm glad you did. I don't usually do this sort of thing but," he shrugged unseen by Kai unless he still had his goggles on.
Kai was quiet for a long time; no sound but his quiet breathing filled the, not as stuffy as one might think, closet. With an unseen smile, he mumbled. "It was you."
"What was?"
"You're the boy I've been searching for," he answered easily. "The one from Tala's birthday party when we were younger. I thought something seemed off about Lee- he was so confident and talkative and you were, shy and quiet."
Rei blinked in confusion. Lee did say something about Kai being crazy, was this part of it. Ha. Yeah right, a guy like him has it totally together; Rei is sure of that. "I don't know what you mean," blinking heavily, he shook his head. There is no way that two cups of spiked punch could do this to him... Bryan must have been talking about something else being in the drink, not a couple drops of an alcoholic beverage. "Did I just say thing?" Asks the mentally fuzzy male.
"Huh?"
"I feel dizzy. Can I lay down somewhere or maybe you could take me gome." He shook his head. "Home."
Kai wasn't about to let Rei get away, not now that he was sure he has found the right Kon and he doubted there were any other Kon men out there hiding, so Rei has to be the boy from the party. So much wasted admiration on Lee and the guys not even gay! Sure he just thought he forgot and decided he didn't like men after all, but Rei said everything he had said that night, when he first led him to the cooks pantry, to the letter. Think Hiwatari, he did ask if he could lay down somewhere. No better place than an undisturbed bedroom. Grabbing Rei by his arm, he slowly brought the boy up to his feet before reaching a hand out for the door knob.
"You can rest in my room."
"Something's in the punch."
"I know, Tala dissolved some pill into it. I think ecstasy or something."
Wobbling a bit, he shook his head trying to clear it. "I think I'm gonna throw up."
"Eh, let's hurry then." Pulling him from the closet, he led Rei to the stairs and hopefully would make it on time to the bathroom.
...................
Rei sat back on his legs, physically exhausted and feeling sick as a dog. Taking a handkerchief from Kai, he wiped his mouth and sighed. "I'm sorry, I didn't know anything was wrong with it." He flushed the toilet and stood up with help.
"Tala should be sorry, I'll make sure he apologizes to you too."
"Ha. That should make his day."
Walking the boy into his bedroom, he pulls back the covers and helps him into his bed. Kicking off his shoes; he climbs in as well, hugging himself around Rei. "You just relax okay."
Groaning, Rei turned his back to Kai muttering into the soft pillow. "I think I'm starting to get an erection; you aren't gonna rape me are you?"
Kai laughed quietly to that. "No. You're safe here."
"Good." He snuggled a little bit more, letting Kai's warmth encase him. "I'm too tired to fight you."
Smoothing the long strands of hair from the boys face, he kisses his cheek. "I know... but can you promise me something?"
"Yeah," his voice was far away and dreamy.
"Let me be with you." He closed his eyes.
Rei turned around and hugged Kai to him. "Okay."
Kai smiled at that, though he was aware that it was only the drugs talking he didn't care it was just nice to finally be with the boy of his dreams. Clapping his hands, the lights in the bedroom cut off and the two boys went to sleep. The party could break itself up; right now, nothing was moving Kai from this spot.
