The Warrior's Heart
Prologue
Once upon a time, in a world different from ours, lived a goddess named Nurelia. She created the world of Landnam and its people that lived there. But, to her great sadness, her four sons were fighting among themselves.
Her oldest son was named Sokrat and was one of the wisest, then there was Asmos and he were the artist among her sons. After Asmos came Salamulyon, he was as unpredictable as the lightning that could strike anywhere at anytime. Her youngest son was named Dranzer and he was the most mysterious and the coldest of all of them, but nonetheless, he had the warrior's heart.
Then one day the unthinkable happened, Dranzer fell in love with a woman named Aurelia. She was the most beautiful woman with purest and kindest heart of all. Nurelia felt nothing but joy for her youngest son; she hoped that that would bring an end for the fighting and it did…for a while…
Salamulyon was jealous at his younger brothers happiness and therefore decided to take Aurelia for himself. At this point, Dranzer had been blessed with a son whom he and Aurelia named Hiwatari. One day, Aurelia were out walking in the forests with her infant son, when Salamulyon and his men came out of nowhere and attack. When Salamulyon saw Dranzer's heir, he smiled. He yanked the son away from the protecting arms of his mother and was about to stab his sword through the boy when Aurelia's pleas and cries reached his ears. He told her that if she came with him without any sorts of resistance, then he would leave the boy to his own fate. Aurelia complied.
Dranzer was out hunting when he heard his son's cries. As fast as he could, he ran towards the direction the sound came from and what he saw, he would never forget.
His son were surrounded by a pack of wild beats, the only animal there was defending his son, was a red fired phoenix; it literally scared every dangerous animal away with its fire. Dranzer, not feeling frighten at all, walked over to beautiful creature and thanked it for its help. The beautiful animal spoke to Dranzer and told him what had happened to his beloved wife.
Dranzer went straight to his mother Nurelia, demanding her help. Nurelia promised that she would speak to Salamulyon, but Salamulyon refused to give up Aurelia. Nurelia then demanded to speak with Aurelia.
Aurelia couldn't deny that Salamulyon had been good and kind to her and that she now was pregnant by him, but her love for Dranzer was still as fierce as before and then Nurelia heard the words she had feared most. Aurelia told Nurelia that Salamulyon's son who was growing inside her was too big and that she would die giving birth to him.
Nurelia went home and told her son the bag news. Needless to say, Dranzer went crazy with madness over his wife's fate and demanded a chance to speak with Aurelia. Salamulyon denied at first, but their oldest brother Sokrat decided to break in, he always felt with his youngest brother, where Asmos always was with Salamulyon. Sokrat told Salamulyon that he would be at Dranzer's side when he spoke with Aurelia and Salamulyon accepted.
Dranzer saw his wife lying on a bed all sweaty and pale. Aurelia told Dranzer that she only went with Salamulyon because she was afraid that he would kill their son. She told him that the child she was about to give birth to, she could never call her own thus he had been conceived out lust and not out of love. The child would kill her she knew that. Aurelia told Dranzer to stay strong and focus, so he one day could revenge their stolen love. With the last words said Dranzer left and never saw Aurelia again.
Aurelia died giving birth to Salamulyon's son whom he named Yusaki. The fighting between Salamulyon and Dranzer were now more intense than ever before, but know Nurelia had had enough.
She divided the land of landnam into 5 principalities. To the farthest west in the land of snow and mountains she installed Dranzer and his son Hiwatari. To the northwest in the land of the low plains and green grass fields she installed Salamulyon and his son Yusaki. To the northeast in the land of the yellow cornfields and beautiful flower plains she installed Asmos and his son Tankana. To the father east in the land of the summer and warmth she installed Sokrat and his son Qamicaza. In the end there was only one land left. It was a beautiful land, it had all the four seasons and was a land covered with valleys. Nurelia had not yet decided to whom of her sons she would give this piece of peace to.
But, all that was about to change. Nurelia had given Sokrat and his family the status of royalty, Sokrat was now the Emperor.
One day Sokrat were out walking with his young son Qamicaza by the river, when he spotted an orphan boy rescuing a small animal from drowning. He went to the boy and asked about his family. The young boy told him that his family had been killed in the Great War between Dranzer and Salamulyon. His family had told him that he should seek shelter in land of the Emperor, because here was peace. Sokrat immediately saw the kind heart and goodness in the young boy.
Sokrat took the boy to his mother and told her that he had a solution to her problem concerning the last land. Nurelia asked the boy for his name and the boy told her that he was named Tachibana. Sokrat asked his mother for permission to adopt the young boy Tachibana so that he too could get the status of royalty and Nurelia gave her permission.
For many years, the Great War between Dranzer and Salamulyon continued and Nurelia had finally grown tired. She called her sons and their children into a grand meeting; she had decided to give her sons the status of Gods so that it no longer would be immortals fighting a thousand year battle, but instead mortals who would fight in their place. If would be up to each of her own sons to decided in what shape their subjects would worshipped them in. All her grandsons (except Tachibana who was already mortal) would be stripped from their immortality and become the prince of each principality and so it happened.
Dranzer had walked alone up in coldness of the mountains. After Aurelia's death, he and Sokrat had managed to steal her body away from Salamulyon and had buried her in the deeps of the cold mountains. In front of her grave he pulled out his sword and vowed that one day there would be a descendant strong enough to carry the sword that would now hold the power of his spirit and the fire of the Phoenix. The descendent would eliminate the family of Salamulyon and thus revenge him and his wife's dearth. The descendent would start a new line of great warriors and become the Emperor itself. In the same moment Dranzer made his vow, the red Phoenix came and the two of them along with their power merge together and went into the sword.
“ Bla bla bla bla.”
The old kantar (a kind of priest) looked down at the young boy who had made the comment.
“ Prince Kai! ” he warned, “ May I remind you that this is your family story and that Count Boris…-”
“ I don't give a damn about what Count Boris wants me and doesn't want me to do!” Kai snarled and got up from his school table.
“ Prince Kai… I must insist that you…-”
“ That I what!” Kai turn round so that he faced the kantar, even though Kai was at the young age of ten-years-old, he could still be pretty scary and pretty convincing. The old kantar backed at few steps, “ That I do the same as my foolish father and go into the mountains and die while trying to find the Sword of the Phoenix” Kai snorted. His father had believe that he was the prophesied descendent, the one to become the great Emperor.
What a joke…
“ I've heard the story a thousands times, if not a million. If you will excuse me old man, I have training to do” and with that said Kai left the room that served him as his school. Kai slammed the door shut. He proceeded to walk down the great halls of the palace. Since his fathers death four years ago it had been Count Boris who had rule the land of the mountains. There were only a few valleys; so many people had chosen to live in mountains instead of crowd ness of the valleys.
Kai liked the fact that there were many mountains; they gave him the loneliness and the focus he required.
He went down to the smithy; it was where all the swords were made. When he was younger he used to spend his most of his time down here, he had loved to see how the swords were being created.
The heat greeted him the minuet he opened the door, he looked around, all the workers down here were busy, but there was a figure that caught his eye. It was a figure of the Phoenix Dranzer everyone had it. They believed that if they worshipped and sacrificed to the Phoenix God, then he would protect them and bring them luck in war and such things.
Kai tore his eyes away from the symbol.
What nonsense… I don't even believe the story.
“ Samuel!” Kai yelled out.
A man, with a slight grey beard and big odd-looking goggles, looked up. He was the chief blacksmith. His clothes were dirty from sweat and dirt; he wore big leather gloves to protect his hands from the heat and off straying splinters that would fly around. He recognized the young Prince and hurried. No one wanted to feel the young Prince's wrath; some have even heard that the Prince could be worse than Count Boris.
Samuel bowed down; Kai rolled his eyes in annoyance.
“ Get up I don't have time for this,” he snapped. Samuel got up on his feet's in no time.
Kai looked serious at the older man and he smirked as he noticed Samuel's fear for him.
“ Do you have it?” he asked.
“ Y-yes, as a matter of fact I finished it last night… now I will go find it” Samuel replied.
Kai watched Samuel with amusement; Samuel had knocked a couple of buckets that contain water over, making the floor soaking wet. Kai looked around the room again; when he was little, he thought it to be huge like there was no end to it. He remembered once to have asked Samuel how many furnaces there was. Samuel had answered a little over 500.
Samuel came back with a sword in his hands; he had a proud smile on his face. He held it so the handle was towards Kai. Kai pulled the sword out its leather holster and held it up he examined it thoroughly. Samuel was trembling with fear as he watch Kai running his fingers up along the side of it, the young boy looked at him.
“ This better last this time” he said and took the leather holster and walked out of the smithy. When the young Prince no longer could be heard he let out the breath he didn't know he was holding.
Kai walked out satisfied, it was time to find the idiots he happened to call friends.
And find them he did, they were outside practicing in the snow with their tree swords. Kai sat down on a log and just watched them, till his red haired friend finally spotted him and froze. Kai stood up and smirked.
“ Now Tala, are you done playing with your little toy swords” Kai said sarcastically with an amused gleam in his eyes. Tala, Bryan, Spencer and Ian slowly stood up brushing the snow off them while looking a little embarrassed by being caught unaware by their Prince. The four boys were sons' of the four generals there were in the army and the only ones Kai considered as something close to friends.
“ We are going up to the south mountains for training today, I have a new sword I want to try”, Kai watched them closely daring them to say anything. The south mountains were considered to be the most dangerous chains of mountains of all times.
“Umm Kai, won't Count Boris be mad at you if you go up there?” Spencer quietly asked.
Kai smiled a cruel smile, “ Of course he will.. That's why we are going up there. Now come on.”
It took them three hours to climb and find a place Kai found suitable for their training. Spencer and Ian looker over the side, there was a loooooooooong way down both boys' gulped.
“ K-kai are you sure about this” Ian asked a bit nervous. Kai didn't bother to look at them, but answer them.
“ Of course I'm sure, now line up in formation”.
Kai stood in the middle while the four boys stood in a circle around him getting ready to charge. The next thing Kai could remember was seeing Tala, Spencer, Bryan and Ian charging towards him and then nothing. He sat up and heard Tala shouting at him.
“ Hey Kai, you all right down there, you not hurt are you?” Kai checked himself; no he wasn't hurt which were quite miraculous. There was light coming from the top and he could see Tala and the others.
“ By Dranzer Kai, we thought you were hurt!” Tala yelled. Kai looked at the sides, he fallen from high distance.
“ Hey Tala!” Kai yelled, “ Go down to the palace and get some rope and then you can pull me out of here”.
“ Will do Kai”, Kai saw his friends faces disappear and sighed.
Great…This is a perfect opportunity for Boris to forbid me from ever going out in the mountains again
Suddenly caught Kai's eye, it was a red light further away. He started walking towards it; it was like it was calling him to come closer. And then he saw it; in the middle of the cavern it stood.
Could it be true…could that dumb story really be true
Kai frowned, in front of him was the legendary sword.
The Sword of the Phoenix
And behind the sword stood a stone grave, Kai walked up to it and saw something engraved on the side of it. Kai bended down and brushed some of dust so he could read.
This is the grave of my beloved wife Aurelia…Aurelia…AURELIA!!!!
Kai was so shocked that he fell backwards and landed on his butt, he quickly stumble onto his feets again. He couldn't believe it. It couldn't be true. He didn't even believe in the dumb story. He turned to the sword again and pulled it up. On the sword was a symbol of a Phoenix, it was there the red light was shinning from. He took a couple of swings with it, it was like the sword sang to him. Kai glared at it, the sword felt right in his hands.
Perhaps there is some truth to the story
Kai smiled.
