The Warrior's Heart

Chapter 1- Three years later

Spring Season

 

Hilary started to focus intensely; her father had demanded that she learned how to ride a horse while still being capable of defending herself with a sword. Up from the palace windows was her father watching, beside him stood the highest ranked General in the army.

 

“ Prince Lorne, why do you insist on the princess learning these man skills? You're raising her as if she was a boy”. The Prince glanced at the General who had a small frown on his face. Prince Lorne chuckle and turned to the general.

 

“ General Makaza, I have never understood why boys always has been favorite so, but perhaps I can explain my reasons to your satisfaction… ”. He motioned for General Makaza to follow him. The two men walked into the big glamorous throne room. The walls were long and high decorated with images of the Goddess Nurelia. Just to the left side on the throne hung a big tapestry; it was showing all the different principalities. Prince Lorne glared at it.

 

“As you know General Makaza, there exist five houses. The House of Tankana, The House of Yusaki, The House of Hiwatari, The Royal House of Qamicaza and at last our House of Tachibana.” The Prince folded his hands behind his back. The General looked at him with a slight confusion.

 

“ I know all this my Prince, but…-”

 

“ But tell me General”, Prince Lorne interrupted and looked at the General, “ Isn't it true that already 13 years ago our Emperor had troubles with producing an heir.”

 

“ Yes, that is true…”

 

Prince Lorne gazed seriously at the tapestry, “ and that 13 years ago, three new princes' were born”

 

“ Yes, Prince Enrique Tankana, Prince Johnny Yusaki and Prince Kai Hiwatari, but pardon me my Prince, I do not understand what has this to do with Princess Hilary”, the General follow Prince Lorne with his eyes.

 

“Allow me to explain.” Prince Lorne said and gazed once again at the tapestry.

 

Flash Back 13 years ago:

 

A messenger came running through the great hallways of the palace, till he finally reached his destination. He stopped outside a great door that was guarded by two soldiers. The soldiers let the messenger enter the big throne room. Prince Lorne was in the moment discussing a new law that would benefit the poor people in his land. The messenger bowed and handed Prince Lorne the message. Prince Lorne took the message and started reading it, his eyes widen as he read the content of the message. He quickly looked at the messenger and said.

 

“ Call immediately for Jodark”

 

Some time after an old kantar came into the room. His long white beard touched the floor and his hands desperately clutching to his stick. Prince Lorne walked over to his old friend and the two of them pulled each other into a warm hug.

 

“My old friend its good to see you” Prince Lorne said and smiled warmly.

 

“ Its good to see you too Prince Lorne, last time I saw you, you were only a little toddler who hid behind his father's legs because you was afraid of me hehehehehe.” The old kantar chuckled. Prince Lorne smiled.

 

“ We have met on several other occasions too,” Prince Lorne tried to say in his own defense.

 

“ True true, but that memory will always be my impression of you.” Both men laughed at that. Jodark took Prince Lorne's hands into his, “ But now tell me Prince Lorne why you have summon me”.

 

Prince Lorne's face turned serious, he looked around the throne room and ordered everyone out. He then handed the message to Jodark.

 

“Ah, so the House of Hiwatari have also been blessed with a son”, the old kantar said. He looked into the worried Prince's face.

 

“ Tell me the truth Jodark, you who can speak with the Goddess herself, will our Emperor produce an heir to the royal throne?”

 

“ It is dangerous to speak about the future Prince Lorne, but no… he will not produce an heir”

 

“ DAMN IT” Prince Lorne yelled and hammered his hands against the wall, he let out a sighed and then tried calmed himself down.

 

“ I have no choice then” he quietly muttered to himself and ran a hand through his hair.

 

“ As you know Jodark, the House of Tachibana has always been looked down upon by the other Houses, because our ancestor was adopted by the God Sokrat.”

 

Jodark went to Prince Lorne and squeezed his shoulder supportive.

 

“But many has forgotten that your ancestor also was given the status of royalty and therefore royal blood runs through your family's veins” Jodark said wise and continued, “but, the other Houses will never allow your son to become the ruling Emperor…It will be an all destroying war, they will seek to kill, till the day where there is only one House standing”.

 

“ I know…that is why I want you to do the impossible” Prince Lorne said and looked at Jodark, “ I want you to pray to our Goddess Nurelia that instead of being blessed with a son… I want to be blessed with a daughter”

 

Jodark's widen and he clutched at his stick a little harder.

 

“ A girl!!! B-b-b-but there has never been born a girl ever since the line from your ancestor started” Jodark exclaimed in shock.

 

“ That's why I called it impossible” Prince Lorne replied. Jodark smiled a warm smile and touched Prince Lorne's cheek with a gentle hand.

 

“ I understand…I will do my best” Jodark said before he left Prince Lorne alone in the throne room.

Flash Back end

 

The General stared unbelieving at his Prince.

 

“ And to add it all up. The Emperor has summoned every House to come to the palace this autumn, where he has an important announcement to make.”

 

“Oh… I see”

 

“ If there comes a war General Makaza, I want my daughter to know what the heck she's doing”

 

Hilary stood in front of the mirror, she was tired from the intense training and she had various bruises and scratches on her body from when she had fell down from her horse. Right now her maid Adessa was helping her getting her clothes off.

 

“ I don't know why your father insist that you keep doing this, is not becoming of a lady” Adessa exclaimed. To tired to argument with her maid, Hilary just let her maid rant about. As they reached a certain state of undress Hilary turned away from the mirror, she didn't want to look at herself.

 

Ever since she reached her 12-year-old birthday, strange things started happening to her body.

First it had been the blood thing that now came every month and that would hurt like hell, next it was her chest that used to be flat as a board and now suddenly was bulging out… and at last, her body was no longer straight as a tree, but curvy. But to her luck there was one thing she defiantly knew about these changes and that was… she hated it.

 

Noticing what Hilary was doing, Adessa shook her head at the young girl.

 

“ Silly girl… you can't change the fact that you are becoming a woman” Adessa immediately got an evil glare from Hilary, but she took no notice.

 

“ It's just like these silly bindings you keep wearing around your chest, what are you trying to do?? Hide the fact that you are girl!”

 

I wish… Hilary thought to herself .

 

“ Now get into the bath I've got ready for you, and by the way, your father has requested to see you as fast as possible, now shou…shou” Adessa said while waiving with her hands.

 

30 minuets later Hilary walked into the throne room where her father was waiting.

 

“ Papa” Hearing his name Prince Lorne turned round and was greeted with the sight of his daughter, he let out a little smile.

 

“ Hilary” he said stretching out his arms and pulled his daughter into a bear hug.

 

“ So what is it that you want to tell me?” Hilary asked stepping out of the hug and folded her hands behind her back.

 

Prince Lorne looked at his young happy daughter, he ran a hand through his hair and let out small breath, she was going to freak about this.

 

“ I have decided to send you to the western lands for the spring season”, the happy smile faded on Hilary's face as realization sunk in.

 

“ Are you sending me to stay with Kai for the entire season of spring?” Hilary asked her father slowly.

 

“ Yes… that's is what I'm doing” Prince Lorne answered.

 

“ You are sending me to stay with Kai…Kai…KAI…Y-y-you can't be serious…” Hilary pointed accusingly at her father, “ You know that all the Houses boys dislike me and now you are sending me to the most coldhearted of them all.” Hilary stared at her father in disbelief, “ Don't you know that Kai hates everyone and…and that he rarely talks to anyone, if he even talks to them at all!”

 

Prince Lorne stared stern at his daughter, “ You won't change my mind Hilary. You leaving tomorrow and you will return home here when the season changes to summer”

 

“ TOMORROW!!!” Hilary yelled out, “ and just what will I be doing there?” she asked outrage.

 

“ That's for you to find out…now guards will you please escort the princess up to her room” Prince Lorne gave a brief glance to her daughter.

 

“ She has some packing to do”, he said.

 

“ No papa wait…can't we talk about this…Papa…PAPA” Hilary yelled as the guards dragged her out of the throne room.
