Ch3

“Where are we?” Kai asked quietly.

Only a few blocks from where you first found us,” Rei said, “And I'm sorry I bit you, I was hungry.”

Kai grabbed his dagger and held it up.

“Relax,” Rei said, “I only took a pint.”

“Sorry if that doesn't help,” Kai snapped.

To his surprise, Rei started laughing.

“Fair enough,” he said, “Just let us explain.”

“We need your help,” Max said, “Against the other vampires.”

“Why me?” Kai asked in confusion, “I kill vampires, not save them.”

“But I saved you,” Rei said, “When the boxes were going to crush you.”

Kai paled, the bloodsucker had him there. Kai would be honor bound to help him. Damn.

“Find,” Kai said quietly, “What do you need?”

Rei smiled.

“Come with me.”

“Where's Kai?” Kenny asked Tyson.

Tyson smirked.

“Though you thought that we shouldn't get mixed up in his business.”

“I know, but he said we would come back for breakfast.”

“Oh well.”

“Every night,” Rei began, “ever since we broke away from the coven, they have been trying to attack us. They try to kill us.”

“Evil killing evil,” Kai sneered, “What a twist.”

Rei jumped at Kai and held him against the wall in a vice like grip.

“If I were evil,” Rei snarled, “I would have killed you by now.”

Rei's fangs were right by Kai's neck and Rei was breathing hard.

“And if I wanted, I could kill you right now.”

Rei let his fangs graze Kai's neck and chuckled.

“I really should though,” Rei commented, “I mean, a young healthy male. A vampire doesn't always get that chance. But I won't.”

Rei smiled and slightly loosened his grip.

“Do you understand,” he then asked in a voice that dared Kai to say no.

Kai nodded and Rei backed away.

“Now,” Rei announced, “Do you want something to eat? We have left over pizza.”

“Are you okay now?” Max asked Kai quietly, “Gonna stop going crazy?”

“Sure,” Kai said carefully, “What ever.”

“We'll continue from where we left off,” Rei said, “As I was saying, the coven we belonged to was trying to do something evil. I'm not sure what, but that apparently didn't matter. They came after me anyways.”

Rei paused, apparently trying to gather his thoughts. Kai didn't say anything, not wanting to make the vampires angry.

“They attack at night and hunters attack during the day. We need your help Mr. Hiwatari.”

He stopped again and looked at Kai.

“Will you help?”

Kai couldn't help it, Rei seemed like a good person.

“Yes. But you must answer some of my questions first.”

Rei nodded.

“Ask away.”
