Bleach Fan Fiction ❯ Lessons to Learn ❯ The Gentle Ruffian ( Chapter 2 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
AN: Here's another installment of my Bleach morals! This time the pairing is Kenpachi x Retsu. Enjoy.
I used to laugh in the faces of all those idiots who fall in love. Previously cold-blooded killers softened up when they developed affections for a woman. For example, Captain Ichimaru Gin. He didn't care who he killed, and he always did it with a smile. It warmed my heart. But since he started fuckin' Captain Soi (or at least I think they're fuckin'), he started actin' like he has a heart. That still makes me mad. Or at least it did. Now I understand. Women are mysterious creatures; and how they change men from 'machines of death' into 'flower-toting machines of sometimes death' is something I'll never know. But Fong has done it to Gin (something I didn't expect from a broad who laughs in the face of death), and Retsu has done it to me. Allow me to explain.
"How dare you say that about my Retsu?" I bellowed, unsheathing my zanpakutou.
"Sir, I didn't mean anything harmful by it," my squad servant stuttered, cowering to the floor in the form of a low bow. He was clearly terrified. But he had every right to be, and more. He had opened his big mouth and insulted my woman. He was going to pay a hefty price. Guaranteed. "Sir, please forgive me."
"I don't think I will," I shook my head. There was no way I was going to let that go. He had to learn that talking about a Captain's woman wasn't going to work, especially in the Eleventh Squad. I placed the tip of my sword to his throat and twirled the hilt in my fingers, leaving a light trail of a cut that broke the uppermost layer of skin. "I'm thinking that you should say your last prayers because --"
A soft touch on my arm made me stop. I turned my head to Retsu. She had rested her fingers on my forearm. She was crying.
Sighing heavily, I lowered my sword and looked back at the offending servant. "She just saved your life," I told him, and waved him off with an uncaring hand.
"Thank you," she sniffed, running a delicate finger under her leaking eye.
"Yeah, yeah."
"There's nothing wrong in sparing a life."
Resheathing my zanpakutou, I shook my head. "I almost killed him you know."
She smiled at me. "And you saving him in the same breath." A hug and a kiss later, she pulled away and grabbed my fingers with her tiny hands. "Come back to my quarters with me. I need you to save me too."
Yeah, I definitely saved her that night. Over and over again. But anyway...
Gin had a field day making fun of me for doing the same thing I berated him for: falling in love. But I understand now that there's nothing wrong with that. People still grovel in my presence, and really, that's all I wanted to preserve.
I used to be a wild animal running amok in Soul Society, but Retsu taught me what it means to have a purpose. To be rough with the others and gentle with her. To fight and love on the same day. It's a valuable lesson to be taught, and I'm glad I learned it.
AN: Wasn't that lovely? Now, what did we all learn today? Review if you like and tell me what you think.
