Whee! Another chapter!
Notes: <> for thoughts, italics when a Clow card talks!
Yep, I jump around, and I want this story to focus on Syaoran and Yue, kk? So not much on Sakura…
Chapter 9

Syaoran froze, and quickly put the teapot and cup down before he did anything else. He reached out a trembling hand and took the card. No….
The back was green, dark forest green, a silver magic circle with the moon in the center… on the front, four crescent moons at the four cardinal direction points, also silver… the label read `The Sword', and the picture itself, on a purple background, a thin rapier… a crescent moon at the hilt, a pair of snowy angel wings climbing their way up the blade halfway…
“No! It can't be!” It couldn't be, he did not have foretelling dreams, but how else could he explain the sword he had wielded in his dream the night before…
“It seems to me,” Yue said carefully, “That you have more of Clow's blood inside your veins than you think. You have created this card from your own magic.”
“It can't be…” Syaoran whispered, still dazed. “I'm just a failure…. How could I have created something as magnificent as this?”
“A failure?” Yue looked at him sharply. “Why do you say that?”

“I… I do not exist for myself, my family will kill me when they find that I have not obtained the Clow Cards as I was commissioned to…”
“And yet,” Yue spoke with a hint of anger, “You told Yukito that you would be going home to Hong Kong soon.”
“I … I did…”
“Why?” He grasped Syaoran's chin, forcing the boy to meet his eyes. “Why do you not value your life?”
“Because… because… you don't love me!”
“… What?” Yue stared at Syaoran in disbelief. “You think I don't…”
“What was I to think? After the Judgment… I almost wish you hadn't found me and I'd died then… at least I'd have been happy….”
Yue had had quite enough. It was time to knock some sense into Clow's descendant once and for all.
“If you were truly worthless, would the cards have chosen you as their master?” He asked, watching as Syaoran flinched back, still caught. “If you were truly worthless, would you have offered your magic to me - you certainly were under no obligation to! And if you really are as worthless as you claim, would I still love you?”
The kiss that followed this tirade was not gentle, it was harsh and unyielding, like ice and iron and the sharp edges of moonlight crystals before they sunk into flesh, but he needed it, oh, how he needed Yue, to keep him anchored and dispel his clouds of gloom…
Syaoran trembled as the kiss ended, meeting Yue's slightly calmer eyes with his own - fear, anticipation, and confusion, mingled with love…

“Now then,” Yue said, back to business, after having given Syaoran several moments in which to compose himself. “You did create this card. It runs on the magic of the moon - your magic, and mine. The question is: how did you achieve this?”
Syaoran blushed. “I…. I just asked the cards for help.”
“You just asked?” * Clow used to do that… * “You simply asked them? No using your sword as a focus?”
“No… I knew that I needed the Sword card's help, so I called… I used the bond I have with you to reach out to the cards… I hope you don't mind!” He added quickly.
“You saved my life. Why would I disparage your methods now?”
“Oh…” He whispered quietly. * I didn't think of that… I suppose I really did save him… and the stuffed animal too… *
< I see. It was quite creative of you. >
< What's happening, Yue? >
< Well, no doubt Cerberus is explaining this to Sakura, so it's quite simple. As you know, the Clow Cards run on the energy of the dark, energy that Clow sealed within them. >
Syaoran nodded.
< However, Sakura's magic is that of the star… and yours is that of the moon… >
< So to use the Clow Cards, we have to change their magic type. >
< Correct. >
< It takes a lot of energy though, doesn't it? >
< True, > Yue commented, < But your body is well adapted to using and replenishing energy quickly. Sakura's is not. >
Syaoran colored. Oh yes… < Yue? >
< Yes, Syaoran? >
< Um… how are your magic levels? >
He was blushing. Adorable. < Fine for two more weeks. >
Syaoran frowned. < Only two? >
< Sakura lessens the magic drain to change cards by drawing on her guardians. However, you have no guardians, so… >
< I see… > Syaoran frowned. < Well… tell me if you need more. >
< And since you would willingly go through pain and pleasure to keep me alive, that is another mark of your true ability that your Clan sees not. >
Syaoran colored further. < H-hai… >
< Perhaps just a little for now. > Yue said, as he pulled Syaoran into another kiss. Syaoran closed his eyes as he felt moon magic leaving his body…
Yue needed it more. He'd help the guardian as long as he could.
…. Not because it was his duty, but because he loved him.

Meanwhile…
“So we should call them Sakura Cards!” Tomoyo finished. Sakura blushed. Kero-chan's explanation made sense…
“I… I see…”
“But how can Clow Reed be here? Isn't he…?”
“Yes, he is.” Kero-chan sighed as he took a bite of Tomoyo's chocolate cupcake. “That's what worries me. We were in our true forms and we couldn't do anything. If it had simply been our false forms, I would not be worried, but now…?”
“Syaoran didn't come to school today either.” Tomoyo said thoughtfully. “Do you think maybe…?”
“I'll have to ask Yue on that one.” Kero-chan nodded. “Yes, he does have magic, but I doubt the brat could pull off anything like Sakura.”
“Kero-chan, that's not polite!”
Tomoyo shook her head. “Maybe you'd better take a look. I brought the video…”
They put it in Sakura's T.V. and watched. Sure enough, Syaoran raced to the bubble with Yue, banged his sword against it, and then…
His sword changed…

Quite worried, Kero-chan immediately flew to the Clow Card book. “Show yourselves!” He barked. All the cards circled around, except for two…
Firey and… he counted, names, names…
Sword…
The sword card was gone as well.
“Sakura?” Kero-chan said slowly. “I know that you're still tired, but I think we really need to see the gaki and have a talk with him.”
Sakura nodded, as she quickly grabbed her rollerblades, the book, and with Tomoyo and Kero-chan, headed off to syaoran's apartment.
It was time to do some explaining.

Syaoran: …
Phantomness: Don't worry; they won't walk in on you two!
Yue: I don't think that was his question…
