Chapter Diez
Sakura and Sarah trudged wearily through the waist-deep, sometimes chest-deep, murky swamp. Tear after tear escaped their eyes and sob after sob escaped their throats as feelings of helplessness overwhelmed them both. Neither girl could believe that Puck, Syaoran, and Chris could actually be gone. To them it felt like some horrible dream in the midst of some freakish nightmare. Only there was no waking up and discovering their three friends watching over them.
A cry caught in Sarah's throat as she lost her footing and was submerged under the filthy muck. Sakura quickly reached over to help her friend back up. It was all the frightened girls could do to keep from collapsing against each other and spending an hour or more remembering how their fivesome dwindled down to merely two.
"How-how did-d she...I just don't understand..." More tears sprang to Sarah's eyes as she tried desperately to make sense of all that had happened. "W-we w-w-were ri-ght th-there!"
Sakura tried her best to soothe the distraught girl but was held back by the turmoil in her own mind.
FLASHBACK
Sarah and Sakura tried to run to the boys, tried to scream at them to snap out of it and fight back! But movements and words were impossible to form since their limbs and mouths were frozen in place. NightKife kept luring Chris, Syaoran, and Puck into her trap and no backward glance was spent by them toward the stricken girls. "It-it's not like we didn't try, y'know. I-I'm s-sure th-the-they're s-sa--"Unable to hold it in any longer, Sakura burst into even more tears. Now more than covered in muck and shaking from heart-wrenching sobs, Sakura and Sarah once again worked on their grueling trek through the seemingly endless swamp. SARAH'S P.O.V.
I couldn't help but find the swamp overly oppressive. It was certainly opaque enough. In fact, I found it almost impossible to remember the last time I had seen light--not to mention the sun.
'But why did NightKnife only go after the guys? Why not Sakura and I as well? At least then we wouldn't be trying to make headway in some wet, dirty, dark, dank swamp!' SAKURA'S P.O.V.
'How much longer must we go on before we finally find light?' The thought came unbidden to my nearly numb mind as I struggled to make my unfeeling legs work. All I could do was watch as Sarah once again fell under the muck and resurfaced. She raised her head to what one might suppose to be the sky and let out words filled with anguish. SARAH'S P.O.V.
'Strange how all Sakura and I can see in this darkness is each other...Why can't we see anything else? I need the light! I need warmth! I need...God.' I turned my face to what I believed to be the upward sky and let it all out before I could stop myself. NORMAL P.O.V.
"Lord, what little faith I have! Is that why we are shrouded in darkness?? Please, God, whatever faith I lost, I turn to You now! I-I looked away from You and saw only the danger I was in! Please...Without You I'm nothing...I need Your light to guide me..."Sarah let out another broken sob. "I need You..." Sakura watched in amazement as light streamed down from above--illuminating the area around them.
"Sarah! Look! The end of the swamp!" Sarah offered silent thanks to God as she and Sakura excitedly moved toward the swamp's edge. Filled with renewed hope, they somehow reached it in no time. Now on dry land, Sakura and Sarah each breathed a gusty sigh of relief.
"Sarah, that was amazing!"
"What was?"
"What you did back there!" Sarah shook her head.
"But I didn't do it. God did."
"Whatever. It was still amazing! Now let's go!" BAD GUY'S LAIR
"Well, my dear NightKnife, it would seem that I was correct in replacing that idiot Harold with you. Splendid job, my dear. Splendid!"
"I thank you, Master." The evil one chuckled low in his throat evilly.
"However, my beloved Sarah and that worthless Sakura know who you are and that they should avoid you at all costs." NightKnife looked up from her kneeled position.
"Master, I don't understand..."
"You don't need to understand, Kinella!" He then walked over to the confused minion and removed something from behind her ear. In a rush of dizziness, NightKnife collapsed onto the ground before gathering her wits enough to glance up. When she did, she immediately wished she hadn't. All who heard her horrified gasp would witness to that!
"Mumba! But...how? All I remember is you taking me from my home, my Illsilkio!" It was then that her bewildered gazed turned into an ice cold glare that would freeze anyone on the spot. But Mumba was hardly anyone. "You-you..." Kinella then broke out into her language--insulting him with every word she knew.
No one except Mumba could understand Kinella's angry words after "you". No one except Mumba had ever even heard the strange language before! Syaoran, Puck, and Chris exchanged glances. Correction: Syaoran, Puck, and Chris strained and attempted to exchange glances wich was pretty hard seeing as they were not only chained to the wall with gags in their mouths, but they were blindfolded as well. Therefore, the attempt to make eye contact with each other was in vain. All of Mumba's minions joined their evil master in vicious laughter.
Next time::Real People Chapter Once: GUESS WHAT! Chapter 11 is gonna be a special chapter as we'll be delving into Kinella's past, her world, and how she came to be NightKnife, minion to the bad guy, Mumba(for lack of a better bad guy name. Plus, I was growing tired of always calling him the Bad Guy and Evil One. Ya know?). Yes, it will be counted as a real chapter and not just some special. Why? Because that's what I decided I want to do. So HAH!
