6. Dark

At the other end of the phone line, Eriol had taken a brake.

"So Vaine was Yue's first love?", Sakura asked.

"Yes, she was.", Eriol answered, "But now comes the not so nice part of the story."

"Why? What happened to her?"

"She was seduced."

"Seduced?"

"Let me explain you."

Yue couldn't believe his eyes.

"Vaine?", he asked unbelieving, "Is that really you?"

"Yes, my love.", she answered and smiled. But instead of that sweet smile Yue loved so much, there appeared an evil smirk on her face. And not only the smile, her whole face had changed. Her face that had been so soft and loving had changed into a mask of hardness and coldness. Her eyes, her once so shimmering eyes were now shaded and seemed to show no more emotion. Even her dress had changed. Where had once been a simple red gown, she now wore a black robe with dark red ornaments.

"What happened to you?", Yue asked.

"I have found all I was seeking for.", Vaine replied.

"And what should that be? I always thought you were seeking for a true love. And that, you had already found in me."

"Oh, please, my love.", Vaine said harshly, "Nobody is able to exist from love alone. I have recognized that now. And I have found what I really need."

"And that would be?"

"Power. Immense power. Power to make things -and people- develop as I want them to."

"Who or what placed those nonsense in your mind?"

"I won't tell you, my love. Let me have my little secrets."

"I am sorry to say this, but you seem to have gone insane."

"Oh, such bad words from those beautiful lips." Vaine stepped towards him and placed two fingers on Yue's lips. Yue took a step back.

"Don't.", he said.

"What, my love?", Vaine asked.

"Don't touch me.", Yue answered, "You are not the one I love. Don't ever touch me again. And don't call me

"Don't be silly, my love.", Vaine said and again, moved towards Yue. Again, Yue tried to step back, but found out that he couldn't.

"You are going nowhere as long as I don't want you to." Again, that smirk appeared on her face and for the first time in his young life, Yue got a bit frightened. That woman was surrounded by dark energy and with that, she was immobilizing him. She took hold of his face with both of her hands and kissed him. But that kiss was totally different from their first one. While the first kiss between Yue and Vaine had been soft and loving, this kiss was rough and uncomfortable (at least for Yue). As Vaine was finished, she whispered into Yue's right ear:

"Didn't you enjoy that, my love?"

"No, not at all.", Yue replied.

"Oh come on.", Vaine said, "I know you love me. Be mine forever and we could both share a future with the whole world as our playground. Being together, we could easily dominate this world. Just imagine, my love: Everything- and everyone- would be like we want them to be. And those who won't obey, we would use as examples to show others what would happen if they don't follow the rules. Now answer me, my love: Wouldn't it be just wonderful having the total control over everything-and everyone?"

"Nobody should be that powerful.", Yue answered, "Something like this would be threatening for the balance of all things. That is what my master always says. And he is right."

"You upset me, my love.", Vaine spoke, grimacing, "Don't I mean anything to you anymore?"

"If you think like that, yes.", Yue replied, "I am sorry, Vaine. But I will never support the forces of dark."

"So now it is me who has to be sorry.", Vaine said, "Because as you are not willing to take the place at my side, I have no other choice than to get you out of my way."

Yue's eyes widened in shock. Did she just speak about killing him? Quickly, he analyzed his situation. He was unable to move, so he couldn't fight her personally. He thought of Clow. He knew his master was powerful. So, Yue desperately hoped that the magician could beat that insane woman, or at least bring her back to being reasonable.

*change of scene*

Clow suddenly raised his head from his studies and stood up from his desk. He walked out of his room and met up with Cerberus, who was coming down the hallway.

"Master?", Cerberus asked.

"Yes, Cerberus?"

"Something isn't going right."

"Yes, Yue is in trouble."

"Will he need our help."

"I suppose."

"So where are we going?"

"The forest. To a clearing with a lake."

*change of scene*

Vaine was beginning to step back, leaving Yue's immobilized body leant against a tree.

"I wish it wouldn't have to be like this. You sure you can't change your mind, my love?", she asked.

"No, never.", Yue answered.

"Then you leave me no other choice.", Vaine spoke and closed her eyes. She inhaled deeply and seemed to concentrate. She raised her arms and between her hands, a ball of dark energy began to take form. It grew bigger each second and Yue was wondering how big this thing was going to get. As it had reached an enormous size, Vaine opened her eyes, looking at Yue with a cold gaze.

"This is you last chance, my love. Changed your opinion?"

"No…", Yue said.

"Then prepare for your end."

Vaine moved her arms back a little, preparing to throw the huge ball of dark energy at Yue. Yue closed his eyes. He felt two auras coming. One was warm and golden like the sun and one was soft and powerful (AN: I have no idea how Clow-sama's aura would be like, but that's how I imagine it.). Before the huge ball escaped Vaine's control, she was hit in the back. She stumbled and the ball dissolved.

"Who dares interrupting me?", she shouted and turned around to face the "visitors".

"I do.", Clow answered, "I can not let you harm my guardian."

"So you are that master he told me about?"

"Exactly."

"How lucky I am. Now, I am able to get you out of my way as well."

"You were seduced by dark powers, Vaine. I appeal to the last bit of clear mind that I hope is left within yourself. Return before it is too late, fight it as long as you are still able to. The darkness is just using you. You will find your end as soon as you are not needed anymore."

"Nonsense!", Vaine shouted, "You just can't stand that I am more powerful than you, you just don't want to admit that."

"So you have already become such a hopeless case… Then I will have no other choice than to destroy you."

Vaine started laughing evilly.

"You really think you can beat me?", she asked, "Try, old man."

"And then?", Sakura asked, "What happened then?"

"We had a fight.", Eriol said, "A hard fight. That woman was powerful, very powerful."

"Did she…", Sakura stammered, "I mean, did she win?"

"Not exactly.", Eriol answered, "While fighting her, I (AN: Eriol speaks of the past 1st person, anything else would confuse me too much) realized that it may be impossible to beat her."

"And what did you do?"

"She became furious during the fight. But that made her become inattentive: I used that to my advantage and captioned her within my magic seal for some seconds. That wasn't much time, but it was all I needed. And so, I cast a spell to ban her away into another dimension, the realm of darkness. I knew she couldn't cause any trouble there and that she could never be able to get out. Or so I thought."

"It seems that she WAS able to get out."

"Yes, so it seems. She must have become even stronger than she was back then."

"And she will drag Yue on her side as well. That is what my dream was about. I am so afraid, Eriol-kun. I don't want to fight against Yue. I love him, I can not do him any harm."

"That makes the case even more difficult.", Eriol said, "Listen up, Sakura-chan. I think it would be best when I come over. Do nothing as long as I am not there, you understand?"

"Hai.", Sakura answered, "But please hurry."

"I will be there as soon as possible. Remember, Sakura-chan. Everything will be alright."

"I desperately hope so.", Sakura said, "Bye."

"See you soon.", Eriol replied and hung up the phone.

"What did he say?", Kero asked.

"He said he will be coming over.", Sakura answered.

"Why? Is that strange chick such a threat?"

"Hai, Kero-chan."

"I don't understand.", he said, scratching his head.

"I will try to explain.", Sakura replied and started to tell him everything about Vaine.

"Strange.", Kero said as she was finished, "Why don't I remember anything of all this?"

"I don't know.", Sakura answered, "Somehow you and Yue seem to have forgotten everything."

"That is really strange."

"Maybe that was Clow's doing."

"Possible. Wouldn't be the first time he manipulated our memories."

"This all is really strange."

"Yep. I never imagined Yue had a girlfriend in the old days."

"It is all so strange, I feel like the world is turning upside-down."

"Hey, darling! Remember your popular phrase. Everything will be alright."

"I hope so, Kero-chan. I really hope that everything will be alright. But I kind of doubt it."
