YUKITO'S LITTLE SECRET

Chapter 14
Yukino is Yukito.
Yukito is Yukino.
Yukito loves me.
He changed because of me.
Touya didn't know if he should be flattered or unnerved. One thing was for sure though, he was confused. Very confused. Everything was going too fast. For some reason he got his power back. Because of that he found out Yukino's real identity. And like Pandora's box, all hell broke loose when Yuki opened the door for him.
It was less confusing to call her that way for he still couldn't believe that they were one and the same. But they were. It was a fact that could not be changed. Whoever said that the truth could set us free was dead wrong. The truth had only back Touya in a corner where he couldn't move and couldn't breathe.
"I-I can't..." he said, vaguely aware of the hurt look in Yuki's eyes. He had to get out. He needed some space to think. Much as he hated causing that look on her, he couldn't stay in the condition that hewas in. He was about to get in the car when her shout stopped him.
"You can't what!?"
Good question.
I can't believe this is happening.
I can't take all of this in.
I can't understand whom I love more...you or Yukito.
Or if I should love either of you at all.
"I can't handle this right now. I need some space," he replied without even facing her.
"Will you-will you be back?"
"Not tonight, I won't." And then he left. He drove around Tomoeda for a while, his mind still going over the fact that he had been lied to by his best friend. Contrary to what she believed, he was not angry with her. Disappointed, yes. Angry, never. She shouldn't have kept this from him. It wasn't right.
But were her worries justified?
Yukito wished to be a girl so Touya would be able to accept his love. If he hadn't turned into one, would Touya have given him a chance? Maybe, maybe not. He had never thought of himself that way. But then again, ever since Kaho, he had never been interested in girls even though there were lots of them interested in him.
Yukino was the first. But it turned out that she was a guy...his very own best friend! She said that she lied about her transformation because she was afraid he would think she was a freak.
Did he? Now that he knew, did he think she was a freak? He was finding it hard to do so. With all of those Clow Card hullabaloo he found out that nothing could freak him out anymore.
But still it hurt that he'd been lied to.
By the time he drove up to his house, he was mentally exhausted. He went straight upstairs and automatically checked on Sakura since their father was away on another archaeological dig. The moment he opened her door his exhaustion flew right out of the open window.
"GET AWAY FROM MY SISTER, YOU BRAT!!!"
Syaoran, who had been sleeping with his head near Sakura's and her hand in his, bolted upright from his slumped position. He glared back at Touya when he realized it was him who shouted. Sakura began to stir but settled down again and Keroberos had opened his drawer to see what the commotion was all about.
"What are you doing here, gaki? What did you do to my sister? I knew you'd take advantage of her one of these days!"
"Oi! I didn't do anything to her," Syaoran yelled back as he stood up to lessen Touya's height advantage.
"You'd better, gaki, or I'll rip you apart!" He glared some more, though not noticing the peculiar redness in the boy's cheeks. Kero was floating near them as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes. Sakura stirred again, mumbling something about Yue.
"She fainted," Syaoran supplied the obvious.
Touya had gathered as much. Since Yue was no longer using borrowed powers, it meant that he was drawing energy from his mistress. He-she, his-her...it really was confusing. He sat on the edge of the bed and frowned at Sakura. "Thanks for bringing her home, gaki. You can go now."
The younger boy ignored the insult and rudeness. Even though they hated each other's guts they still shared a common interest, which was protecting Sakura. Because of that they reached a certain understanding even though it was a crude one.
Touya watched in the corner of his eyes as the brat climbed out of the room's window and jumped to a nearby branch. He could have used the front door but Touya didn't find this weird. As said before, nothing could freak him out anymore. However, he had to protest when he noticed a certain sun guardian inching towards the window.
"And where do you think you're going, fluffy?"
"WHO ARE YOU CALLING FLUFFY?!" Kero flew right to Touya's face, waving his fists around. He realized his mistake when Touya plucked him by the wings. He fell into the trap hook, line and sinker.
"Lemme go! Lemme go! I did nothing wrong to you!" Kero tried to struggle out of the guy's hold.
"You knew everything...about Yukito posing as Yukino."
"Of course I knew. You knew that I knew. But I was honor bound not to tell. You knew about that so you've got nothing on me."
Much as he hated to admit it, the stuffed lion was right. This didn't involve anyone else except him and Yukino. He released Kero quite suddenly causing the latter to fall to the floor with a loud thud. Muttering a few curses, Kero floated cross-armed and cross-legged in front of Touya.
"Have you talked to Yukino-chan yet?"
"Aa." The reply was wrenched out of him. He still hated the fact that she lied to him and that others knew about it. He'd been made a fool of, no matter how much she denied it.
"And...?"
"And nothing. I don't want to talk about it, fluffy, especially not with you."
"Hmph! As if I care. See if I try to help any of you anymore." With a flick of his fluffy tail, Kero flew off to get some midnight snack.
Touya stared out the window for a while, forcing himself not to think about anything. After a while he felt his senses tingle and knew that someone was watching him. Looking down, he saw his sister's emerald eyes on him. "How are you feeling?"
"Fine although it would have been better if I had slept longer," she replied quietly, still observing him.
"How long have you been awake," he asked in surprise. Sakura had always been a heavy sleeper.
"Ever since you came in."
"So you heard everything."
"Everything." Including those that weren't said. She may be naive but she wasn't as dense as people tend to believe. "What's bothering you 'niichan?"
"Yukino...is really Yukito. He transformed into a girl." Touya watched his sister absorb the news. It didn't look that she was surprised. Perhaps she wasn't. Perhaps deep inside she knew but being naive as she was she didn't take any notice. Whatever the reason, she was taking the news much better than he did.
"And that's a problem because...?"
"Because he turned into a girl!"
"Oniichan there's no point in biting my head off. Yukito can turn into a girl if he wants to. He doesn't really have a gender. Although I can't understand how he did it."
"Falling stars."
"Eh?"
"He wished on falling stars."
"And it came true? SUGOI!!!"
Darn the innocence of youth. They could never find fault in anything, he thought ruefully.
Perhaps because there never was any fault to begin with, a voice answered back.
"Does it really matter if Yukito's a boy or a girl?"
In truth, it didn't. It was a problem before because he thought he fell in love with two people. But now things had actually been made easier. He didn't fall in love with two people since Yukino and Yukito are one. He should actually thank Yukino for if she hadn't shown up, he wouldn't have realized how he really felt.
I love Yuki no matter what form he/she takes.
"No, it doesn't matter anymore." It felt as though one burden was lifted from his heart.
"Then what's really bothering you?"
"She lied to me."
"And is it such a contemptible act that you can't forgive her?"
Contemptible? Touya looked at Sakura in surprise again. Her questions had hit every mark where doubt plagued him. Since when had she become so wise?
"Is it?" Her insistence brought him back from his thoughts. "If you were in Yukino's position would you do the same thing?"
It was an absurd thought, him turning into a girl. He couldn't imagine it although the picture of him as Cinderella in last year's play popped in his mind. He gave himself a mental shake so he could get back on the right track.
He couldn't imagine it but knowing and experiencing the love he now had for Yuki he knew that he'd do anything to be with her even if it meant deception. Even if the relationship was short-lived. To have and hold her even for a while.
No I can't blame her. It's true that any normal relationship should have honesty. But ours never was a normal relationship. What she did hurts but it wasn't unforgivable.
His mind decided, he re-tucked Sakura in and went to the door.
"Are you going back to talk to her?" she called out.
"No. It's already late. Tomorrow will do. Go back to sleep, squirt."
"I'm not a squirt!"
No, you're not, Touya silently agreed. He'd rather be caught dead than say it aloud. No matter how wise she may sound or how mature she acted, she would always be his squirt...his kaijuu...his imouto-chan.
In his room he contented himself in staring at the full moon. Though he wanted to get this over and done with, he needed to compose himself first. He no longer wanted any confusion blocking his mind, not that there were any anymore.
He forgave her.
He loved her.
Tomorrow. Everything will be fine by tomorrow.
