XL: Counting Down the Days:

They will have to leave soon.

“Do we have to leave soon?” she asked.

“Not yet,” he said.

“When?”

“Eight days.”

“Oh.”

“Are you sad?”

“A little bit.” She looked up at him. “You.”

“No.”

“No?”

“Not really.”

“Oh.”

“Heh.”

“What?”

He shook his head. “Nothing, babe. Nothing.” She rested her head against his chest. He rubbed on her shoulder. Truth was this peaceful life wasn't for him. Not completely, at least. There had to be a little bit of excitement. At least, another person to talk to.

“Do you want to go into town again?”

“Are you serious?”

“Yeah.”

“What for?”

“No reason.”

“Okay.” She kissed him on the chest.

“What was that for?”

“I don't know.”

“Heh.” He looked across the room. The landlady was true to her word of not showing up. They only saw her that first day. After that, they were on their own. He didn't mind it. Just as long as they kept the house clean and didn't cause trouble, everything was fine. Still, he wouldn't mind if she called to check on them.

“Do you want to walk around town now?”

“Right now?”

“Sure. Why not? Do you?”

“Yes.” But they weren't moving to get up. She didn't try to get out of his arms. He wasn't even trying to let her go. No, they were just lying there in the futon. He told himself they were going to get up soon. But that just didn't happen. The couple wouldn't get up until about noon.
