Pheonix walked out of the washroom and zipped his pants. He picked up a package of cigarettes and looked at Rei, who sat in a corner looking like a frightened animal.

"What's he thinking now?" he asked as he sat on the floor in a lotus position.

"Vicious..." she choked.

"The bastard went and got himself killed."

She shook her head and he looked at her, drawing slowly in on his cigarette.

"What then?"

"He wants me."

"Tough. We can't leave here."

"He's injured."

"What about the bitch from the Blue Dragons?"

"....she's gone."

"That's good, isn't it? Now she won't try to have you killed."

"There are others that will, I'm sure. It's just that...he wants me now and I can't be there for him."

"Sometimes life is like that. I wasn't around to stop Stinger from dying."

"You're really upset at his loss. Why?" Rei asked and Pheonix looked at her.

"I am mortified each time a member of my group dies but Stinger meant more to me than the others."

"What was so important about him?"

The Taliban sat down and gazed at the wall for a moment. He picked up a glass and poured some wine into the glass. He took a sip then made a face.

"I should have known it would be flat. I left it out for too long. Oh well. The alcohol content hasn't spoiled. So you wanna know about Stinger? He was my cousin. It's bad enough that he killed a Regal Taliban but he killed a member of my family," he said and Rei folded her arms.

"You're not going to kill him," she said.

"I don't kill my employers."

"How can I believe you're telling the truth?"

"I have no reason to lie. I'm upset at how my cousin died but I'm not going to take revenge."

"I'm glad. I still don't think Vicious should have killed him for what he did. I had remembered everything again and I had reached for the closest thing to me. That happened to be Stinger."

"So he was killed out of jealousy. You've awoken so many...normal emotions in his mind. I find that intriguing."

"Why?"

"It's a big change in him. He would have sooner raped and killed a woman than protect her. At least before he knew you he would have. Now it's different. The poison is still there but it's a different kind."

"I know. Why do you think so many people are after him? I'm the reason."

"Nah. It's not you. Vicious has been pissing people off for a long time now. Someone's going to get the best of him one of these days."

"I don't want to think about that."

"It's true."

"I know, but I still don't want to think about it. Not yet."

"When are you going to think about it? When he's dead?"

She said nothing and Pheonix sighed.

"Do you remember any of our beliefs or were you even taught those?" he asked and Rei looked at him.

"What beliefs?" she asked.

"Apparently not since you have no clue what I'm talking about. Death is unavoidable, right? I mean, eventually you're gonna die. That's the way things are."

"I know that...."

"So we figure death can't be the terrible thing that so many other species say it is. If we all have to experience it, then how can it be bad?"

"I see your point."

"Well, if you feel fairly safe with me, would you like to take a look at Earth? You know he has roots here."

"All right. Just don't try anything."

"I've told you. You don't interest me. Let's just go."
