Vicious winced as Sanders pulled another piece of shrapnel from his body.

"Does your phone work?" Vicious asked.

"Yes. Are you going to try to call Earth?" Sanders asked.

"I want her to know I'm alive."

"Can't she hear your thoughts?"

"All she can hear is pain, I'm sure. Just hand me the damned phone."

"Your concern for her is admirable."

"Shut up. Your kind of sarcasm is what I don't need."

He took the phone from Sanders and dialed the planetary code. He then dialed the continent code and then the area code. He allowed the phone to ring for a minute than growled in anger.

"Damn it! Where ARE they?"

Rei stopped and Pheonix looked at her.

"What is it now?" he asked.

"I'm not exactly sure," she replied as she watched another meteor fall.

"I'm sure it was a lot nicer before the war," Pheonix commented.

"War?"

"The Global War. That's what turned this planet into what you see today. It's kind of pathetic that humans allowed this to happen to their home. At least with us, we've got a group dedicated to preserving our way of life. The Regal Talibans."

"So what exactly did you preserve? I don't remember much of my home."

"I'm still a member, even though I'm not on Sentinal 3. Stinger is still a member even though he's dead."

"Okay I'm sorry that I insulted you. What do you protect?"

"I protect our species."

"Why do we need protection?"

"Because."

He turned away from her and Rei sincerely wished she could hear his thoughts. He glanced at her for a moment then attempted to smile.

"Come on, I'll take you to a place where you can see what this planet used to look like."

"All right."

"Sanders, do you know why this damned communicator won't work?" Vicious asked as the physician removed another piece of metal from Vicious' leg.

"I suspect it has something to do with the meteor showers," Sanders replied.

"Damn it!"

"I'm sure they're alive. Now calm down. Otherwise I'm going to pull something that doesn't need to be pulled."

"Just hurry up!"

"It would go faster if you'd shut the hell up."

"Don't get that attitude with me. I may be injured but I still decide whether you live or die."

"My apologies. It's just that this procedure is already extremely difficult and your anger isn't helping anything."

Vicious narrowed his eyes for a moment then folded his arms.

"Hurry up then."

Rei looked at the foliage around her for a moment then turned to Pheonix.

"What is this place?" she asked and Pheonix pointed to a sign on one of the walls.

"It's a simulation museum. It shows you what the Earth once was. I thought you'd like to see what his planet was once like," Pheonix replied.

"It's beautiful. It's too bad that the war had to happen."

"There's a lesson to be learned here somewhere."

"Yeah. The human race really screwed up."

"I didn't mean it like that. You can criticize all you want. You're not from this world."

"Yes. I can see more than the inhabitants here since I'm not from this world. The people living on this world tend to let things go that they don't want to deal with. I've never understood the ignorance of humans. Why would you willingly be ignorant? But enough about that. Come on. Let's look at the world. This simulation has to be a lot better than the mess that's out there now."

"Is that why so many people left the surface?"

"That's exactly the reason why they left. The syndicates made a lot of money out of this mess, though. They were charging an unreasonable price to move people off Earth."

"What is that?"

"What?"

Rei pointed to a three-dimensional simulation of a fox and Pheonix bent to read the description.

"It says it's an arctic fox. It lived in the northern regions of Earth. It was brown in the summer and white in the winter. Its white color helped it blend it in with the snow so it could hunt better."

"It looks like something from Sentinal 3."

"Yeah, it looks sort of like a renlux but its nose is too long. Plus renluxes have three tails. That fox has only one tail. You know, it's a different planet, but there are some similarities to what this used to be and our home."

"I can see why you want to protect Sentinal 3."

"Yeah. Come on, there's a lot more to see."

"Damn it! Why did that Taliban have to show up? I would have had her and we would have had our money," Spike swore as Jett changed the bandages on his leg.

"Something else will come up, Spike. Don't worry about it," Jett said.

"Your opimism really pisses me off sometimes."

"Is he still feeling sorry for himself?" Faye asked as she came into the room with Ein behind her. Ein ran up to Spike and nudged his hand.

"What do you want?" Spike asked and Ein barked.

"I think he's just saying hello," Jett said and Spike glared at the dog.

"I don't like animals."

"So boys, do you have anything planned or should I look for things on my own?" Faye asked and Spike glanced in her direction.

"I don't care what you do."

"Then maybe I should stay here for awhile."

Faye lit a cigarette and watched Spike. She grinned and leaned forward.

"Besides, I wouldn't feel right leaving you in Jett's hands."

"What are you trying to say?" Jett asked and Faye shrugged her shoulders.

"I'm just saying that sometimes a woman's touch is needed."

"Too bad we don't have one here," Spike muttered.

"I heard that. I don't think it was a nice remark either," Faye said and Spike shrugged indifferently.

"I don't care how you take my remarks."

"Don't get upset, Spike," Jett said.

"I'm going to kill that bastard for all that he's done," Spike growled.

Vicious sat up in shock as he realized that he had been sleeping. He glanced around for Sanders but found the room empty. He checked himself for anything out of the ordinary then placed a foot on the floor. There were scratches over the length of his legs and he wondered how Rei would take it. The door opened and Vicious' eyes narrowed.

"You're awake. I didn't think you'd awaken so soon," Sanders said and Vicious watched him distrustfully.

"Where were you?" Vicious asked.

"I was getting you a change of clothes. I had to destroy what you were wearing. Why? Were you afraid that I had double-crossed you or something? Vicious, I am a physician. I don't let my personal feelings or thoughts get in the way of my work."

"Sanders, I'm treating you no different then how I treat everyone else. She doesn't count."

Sanders didn't answer. He knew that any sort of reply would be potentially dangerous so he opted for a silent response. Vicious' dark gaze lessened slightly as he took the clothing from Sanders. He bared his teeth slightly at the pain and Sanders watched him critically.

"How bad is the pain?" Sanders asked.

"I'll live through it," Vicious replied as he put on his shirt.

"Be more specific with me. I want to make sure there are no complications. I told you, I'll live through it."

"Let me get you something for the pain. I seriously doubt you'll allow yourself time to heal before you see her."

"What I do is none of your concern."

"If it has to do with your health, it IS my concern."
