Last season, late summer 2024, someone tried to create a show which borrowed heavily, without credit from Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei. They called it No Longer Allowed In Another World. For what it was, it wasn't that funny for a comedy, too slow paced for an adventure, too maudlin for slice of life, and too irritating for isekai. I can't recommend it because I watched the whole thing. Spend your time on better shows. Watch Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei. It is from the frantic comedy period of anime, similar in tone to looney tunes, only with the Japanese flavor and focus on a suicidal teacher (which is totally realistic. Around half the teachers I know are suicidal alcoholics) and his class of high school students who are trapped there and waiting for freedom (unlimited responsibilities and debt). So they put up with his weirdness, many displaying their inability to cope via eccentric personalities of their own. Zetsubo means despair/depression. Sayonara is what you say to someone you never want to see again. Its the coldest insult they have.

While SZS is from 2007, it is still more creative and interesting visually and creatively than most shows on the air today. And it actually holds up as a time capsule of anime history.
