All you wanted…

Chapter 3: Misery loves company

Brrrrrrriiinnng.....

Takeru slid into class just as the final bell rang. He took his seat that was conveniently right beside the window. The perfect place to lose yourself.

The class was going rather slowly the first 10 minutes. The teacher, Mr. Ohashi, spoke in a monotone language that just about lulled every student to sleep -as if chemistry wasn't bad enough- and Takeru wasn't an exception. His head, like many others was already ready to hit his desk. He snuck a peek outside the window and noticed the girls PE class making their way out the double doors. One of them was lugging a few pylons and another two a bag of soccer balls. Hikari was in that class. He grinned. This was going to be an interesting 60 minutes, mainly because he knew that the Yagami gene of soccer was an exception to Hikari. Let's put it this way, she was no Tai...far from it.

~*~*~

On the Soccer field....

"Let's go ladies!" the PE teacher, Ms. Nojima boomed from beside one of the net posts. "We did the drills last class and as promised, we're having a game."

Mostly smiles were drawn except for Hikari. Though her brother was an excellent soccer player, she never quite learned to love the sport. She kicked the ball once or twice with her brother, and had a mean kick that could compete with her brother's, but her co-ordination and aim was a tad off. Tai would certainly account for that, she had once shot a rocket right towards his face by accident once which nearly knocked the poor boy out cold.

The teams were made and Hikari was one of the forwards. The coin flipped and ball awarded to her team. Hikari dropped the ball to the ground and the first point of strategy: pass the ball and get out of the way. And that's precisely what she did; she passed the ball and let her team mates do all the work as she ran up and down the field pretending to look useful.

Up in the Chemistry room....

A small smile crept up on Takeru's face. Watching Hikari run up and down the field was amusing as he knew that she was purposely avoiding the ball. He flinched and smiled every time that Hikari would be met up with the ball. She'd panic and pass the ball right away. He snickered a bit at one instance where an attempt at a pass was accidentally directed towards her own net.

He'd finally decided that chemistry would have the rest of the period as he reluctantly turned his head towards the board. The teacher was oblivious to Takeru's momentary absence and was explaining something about chemical bonds and drawing diagrams on the board.

It took him a good 5 minutes or so before he actually made an attempt to copy the notes and listen to the teacher no matter how painful it was, but it was for the sake of his grades. He didn't want to lose his honour roll status.

Back outside...

In the distance where the PE girls were playing soccer, was that particular brunette approaching the lone soccer ball right in front of the opposing goal. Hikari smiled, this was her opportunity to be the hero like her brother. She burst into full speed and zeroed in on the black and white ball.

**BAM**

The entire class watched intently as the ball was launched towards the net. But the magic of physics and dynamics had other plans, and what was thought to be a post hit actually took a slight detour. The black and white blob missed the pole by a hair and was now at full speed towards the school; mainly the chemistry class window.

"No..." Hikari mouthed as she knew exactly where the ball was headed.

A light crash could be heard in the distance as the ball made contact with the window. The entire class winced at the sound and ran towards the school leaving Hikari on the field with a look of both shock and fear on her face. Mostly fear.

~*~*~

Back inside...

It wasn't long before Takeru's attention span would be cut short. A boy in front of him had seen the oncoming soccer ball from the window and ordered the entire class to:

"WATCH OUT!!!!" the boy yelled and instinctively most of the class had either ducked down or ran to the other side of the room.

**CRASH**

Glass was shattered everywhere and screaming was heard in every direction. A lot of the girls were frantic and the teacher still stunned at the other side of the room, glasses dropping from the edge of his nose. Miraculously, no one was harmed, just alarmed.

The soccer ball slowly rolled towards Takeru and touched him on the side of his leg. He uncovered himself from his arms and grabbed the ball stood up looking breathlessly at the mangled window.

"Holy shit..." he gasped not even noticing the entire gym class running towards the class. What he did notice was out in the distance: a fear-stricken Hikari shaking with her arms around herself.

Hikari was lucky; very lucky considering she was charged with only a weeks worth of detention. The principal was very forgiving and let her off with a light punishment as a "first time offender".

"You do understand Miss Yagami that even though it was purely accidental, I cannot let you off without punishment. The best I can give you is a weeks worth of detention and don't worry about the window, we will pay for it."

"I'm very sorry Mr. Asakawa." Hikari hung her head in shame, hugging her bag.

"You were very lucky that no one was hurt. Now, I expect you to be in the detention room after school today and for the rest of the week. An hour each." he said sternly.

"Hai." she nodded sadly. This was a rather tame penalty and she was lucky at that.

"You are free to leave." Mr. Asakawa directed her to the door and she stood up slowly and bowed briefly before exiting the office.

Takeru was sitting near the entrance of the office waiting patiently for her. Seeing her emerge, he stood up and approached her.

"Hey, how'd it go?" he asked softly.

"Hmm..." she half laughed, "He was really nice about it." she answered as they took a steady pace towards the cafeteria.

"What happened? You're not in immediate trouble are you?"

"No, he said that they'd pay for the window, but I'm serving a weeks worth of detention." she sighed, "Not bad considering the other options."

'A weeks worth of detention...' Takeru's eyes slightly widened at the words and a small unnoticeable smile lingered on his lips. He would be spending the next week with Hikari, though it wasn't the most romantic, at this point anything would do for him. He'd have her all to himself.

"What are you smiling about?" she teased slightly elbowing him in the ribs.

"Oh, nothing." he sounded a little amused, "I just think it's pretty incredible that someone as petite as you could pack a kick that could shame most guys in that leg of yours." he laughed out loud.

Hikari answered back with a slight glare at her best friend followed by a swift punch to the shoulder.

"Ow...and punch." Takeru teased and continued to amuse himself and Hikari couldn't help but laugh along.

"So are you saying I'm a butch?!" she joked pretending to look horrified.

"No comment." Takeru grinned but was soon met with her bag smacked to his abdomen. "Whoa...vicious!" he eyed her and smirked. She attempted to hit him again with her bag but he caught on and grabbed it from her.

"Give it back!" she ordered trying to grab on to it.

"You can have it back if you can reach it!" he laughed as he held it high over his head.

She pouted and jumped much to her failure. She knew that he knew she could never reach it. Takeru was in fact a good six feet tall by now and Hikari was a much shorter 5'4. And even with her heels, she still lacked a good 5 inches along with the added height of his long arm suspending the bag in the air.

"Takeru!" she huffed.

"Alright, here you go" he smiled handing the bag back to her, "I'll even buy you lunch."

Hikari smiled at her friends' chivalrous gesture. "Thank you, Takeru."

"Don't thank me, it's your treat..." he grinned revealing her wallet in his hand already running towards the cafeteria. Hikari didn't think twice as she was at a mad dash behind him.
