Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ Digimon Tamers: Reconfigured ❯ Hidden Truths ( Chapter 9 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

DIGIMON TAMERS: RECONFIGURED

Disclaimer: I am not rich and I am not Japanese. Therefore, I do not own Digimon.

Narrator: Takato moved in with Ryo and found out everything Ryo had thought of in the Digital World. We found out more about Ashley's past, and now I really can't blame her for disowning Yamaki. Alice's army started their attempted invasion and Marinedevimon nearly defeated the Tamers on his own, including sending Marineangemon back to his Rookie stage of Gomamon. Fortunately, Icedevimon showed up and, with a little power up courtesy of Rika, defeated Marinedevimon, then joined the team. Man, talk about unlikely allies!

THEME

"Hidden Truths"

(Revelation of the Chosen! Gomamon's Past)

(Show the battlefield, where the Tamers are standing with their Digimon. The Viral Invaders begin approaching them.)

Alice: (OS) Regroup, we'll finish them off later!

(Ladydevimon, Phantomon, Dragomon, and Skull Satamon vanish)

Rika: We've started the cleanup, now it's time to finish.

Takato: What should we do?

Rika: For starters, choose a Digimon for the fight. Then stick on them until they're deleted.

Henry: Didn't you notice they retreated? How can we fight them if they're not here anymore?

Ashley: They'll be back. I know Alice, she never gives up.

Takato: How do you know her?

Ashley: You tend to learn things about your half-sister.

(A look of shock comes over the Tamers' faces)

Kazu: Half sister? Is there anything else you'd like to tell us before it becomes painfully obvious?

Henry: She's told you everything she told me. I don't think there's that much more to find out.

Terriermon: But Henry, what about the…

Impmon: Badda Boom!

(Terriermon is blindsided by the attack and falls over)

Kazu: What about the what?

Henry: Oh, you know Terriermon.

Impmon: Yeah, big mouth, big imagination, small brain.

Kenta: Let's go now. We can't stand here all day.

Gomamon: Yeah, let's get outta here before they come back.

Kazu: Now that I can understand you, you've got some good ideas. Let's go!

[Guilmon: Time for a snack, but we'll be right back]

COMMERCIALS

[Terriermon: Momentai! We're back.]

(Show Henry sitting at a computer)

Henry: Let's see here, Dragomon is a Sea Animal, appears inspired by, Lovecraft, and has tentacle attacks. Mega level is unknown. Okay then. Nothing I didn't know. Let's see if there's anything else we can find out about Ladydevimon.

(Henry types in "Ladydevimon", but as he's about to hit "search", the phone rings. Henry picks up the phone.)

Henry: Who is it

(pause while a reply is apparently given. A smile appears on Henry's face)

Henry (happily): Oh, hey. Why are you calling?

(Pause)

Henry: Yeah, we're still on for tonight. No problems there.

(Pause)

Henry: Well, they're going to find out eventually, it would probably be best if we told them.

(Pause)

Henry: Yeah, I couldn't either. I mean, they're our friends. They trust us.

(Pause)

Henry: Well, see you tonight.

(Pause)

Henry: Bye.

(Henry hangs up the phone. The phone rings almost immediately after he hangs up)

Henry: What.

(Kazu's voice is heard from the other end of the phone)

Kazu: Did I catch you at a bad time?

Henry: I just got off the phone with my girlfriend.

Kazu: Why'd you bother calling Ashley's cell? She lives with you!

Henry: Who said it was Ashley?

Kazu: Well, I thought your crush had been transferred…

Henry: Did I even mention a name?

Kazu: …no.

Henry: Were me and Ashley ever actually going out?

Kazu: Well, Impmon seemed to be in a hurry to shut Terriermon up about something.

Henry: That was for… other reasons.

Kazu: What other reasons?

Henry: I really can't tell you. Look, I was busy on the computer before you… (Henry realizes what he said) ah shit.

Kazu: Busy on the computer? Man, the more things change the more they stay the same.

Henry: That's not what I meant. I was seeing what I could find out about the Digimon in Alice's army.

Kazu: And what did you find?

Henry: None of them have clearly defined Mega forms. Meaning that if we figured out a way to enable biomerge we could win easily.

Kazu: Slow down. Take this one step at a time. We need to get our Digimon to Ultimate before we start worrying about Mega. And why would I really care whether your Digimon can reach Mega or not? It's not like it affects me and Guardromon.

Henry: Your selflessness and ability to see the big picture amazes me.

Kazu: Touché. Well, see ya.

Henry: Bye.

(Henry hangs up)

(Cut to Jeri sitting alone, sorting through cards. Bakemon comes in.)

Bakemon: Are you doing anything important?

Jeri: I'm looking at these new cards which turned up recently.

Bakemon: (points to the Data Release card) You made that one yourself.

Jeri: The version I made was more of a preexisting Impmon card from the World Defender series modified, poorly, I may add, than an all new card. Not only that, look at all these. Partner Swap, the Shields, the Attribute Power cards, the Attribute Change cards, all showing up exactly when we need them. Where did they all come from?

Bakemon: Maybe it was the Diginomes.

Jeri: They obviously have some part in this, but they can hardly explain everything. They don't work independently, they need help.

(Jeri picks up a booster pack)

Jeri: And look at the copyright here. It doesn't even mention the old makers, or TOEI for that matter; it's credited entirely to "Hypnotic Enterprises International".

Bakemon: Hypnotic Enterprizes? What could that be?

Jeri: I don't know for sure, but I think we should definitely talk to Yamaki.

(Cut to Kazu and Kenta)

Kazu: I can't believe this. I so can't believe this!

Kenta: Neither can I. I have a second-hand Digimon.

Kazu: I swear, if you tamed Azulongmon himself you'd find some way to make it seem bad. Look on the bright side for once. You have Gomamon. THE Gomamon!

Kenta: Big deal. You could have a Digimon from the show too.

Kazu: Yeah, but what kind of big role did Andromon ever play? Aside from being the first Ultimate seen in both seasons he was just on the sidelines once or twice. He showed up to battle Machinedramon and Piedmon, then had his last appearance showing the uselessness of Dark Rings against Ultimates, then vanished entirely. Whereas Gomamon was there from the start, was there through the series, and was there again popping up throughout 02.

Kenta: Great, a used Gomamon with about a million miles on him.

Kazu: You know, if you think about it, only Takato, Ashley, Rika, and Ryo have Digimon which couldn't have been in the series. And Ryo himself may have been anyways.

Kenta: Really?

Kazu: Okay, the Wongs have what Digimon?

Kenta: Terriermon and Lopmon.

Kazu: Link that back to Willis. And Jeri has what?

Kenta: Either Leomon or Bakemon, depending on how things turn out.

Kazu: We've already established our Digimon, but there's still the small matter of Calumon.

Kenta: He's not an actual Digimon, or at least he wasn't at the start.

Kazu: Really? I understood what Azulongmon said as saying they had planted the catalyst inside a Digimon and sent him to our world to keep it from the D-Reaper. If I'm right, then it's possible that Calumon is Datirimon.

Kenta: Well, they do sound alike. And Fresh stages don't generally bear any resemblance to their In Training stages. Just take a look at Bobomon and Koromon. Or, for that matter, Leafmon and Minomon. Or Chibomon and Demiveemon, or…

Kazu: I get the picture. Man, the more you talk the more you sound like Izzy!

Gomamon: Actually, Izzy would be more likely to say that Datirimon and Calumon were "Phonetically identical" or something like that. Honestly, if there was a longer word for "I", Izzy would use it to refer to himself.

Kazu: Look, no more cheap gags. Just tell me, yes or no, are you THE Gomamon?

Gomamon: I am the Eggmon

Kazu: Say what?

Gomamon: I was the Eggmon, I am the Gomamon.

Kenta: This isn't getting us anywhere, is it?

Gomamon: What do you mean? I haven't had a laugh like this since Joe was still alive!

Kazu: Look, stop being cryptic like that and…

Kenta: I think you missed the point, Kazu. He just told us that the Digidestined are real, or were at least.

[Calumon: Where are you going? I promise we'll be right back!]

[(Image: Spinning Logo)

(Image: Mikiko meeting Leomon)

C Narrator: The newest Tamer is chosen…

(Image: A Digital Field appearing right in front of Calumon)

Calumon: Oh no…

C Narrator: …while the onslaught continues.

(Image: Leomon being hurled into a wall by an unknown force)

C Narrator: Who will save the day?

Female voice: You've made a big mistake.

C Narrator: Don't miss the next all new Digimon.]

[Ashley: Don't believe everything you hear, but we're back]

Kazu: Okay, Gomamon, what happened to the Digidestined? Are any of them still alive?

Gomamon: It's kind of complicated, but the older ones lost their power. The second group is scattered around the world. I think a couple of them live here in Tokyo, but I'm not sure of the others.

Kazu: (to Kenta) Looks like we can rule out that ending, huh?

Kenta: (to Kazu) Yeah, I always thought it was tacky and WAY too idealistic anyways. I mean all of them had great jobs and kids. How is that realistic?

Kazu: Okay, I'll bite. What happened and why does our Digital World look so different from theirs?

Gomamon: Well, it's kind of a long story, but three years ago they sacrificed their powers to purify TK's darkened spirit.

Kenta: (blinks) What the heck?

Kazu: Tell us from the start.

Gomamon: Okay, three years ago there was an attack in Odaiba by a crazed group of Monochromon, Meramon, and Tyranomon. That is referred to as the "Night of Flames" and was the beginning of the end. They couldn't get the crazed Digimon into the portals and they all digivolved, leading the entire first group to regain their Crests and, when the Digimon still wouldn't go into the portals, to destroy them. There was some kind of evil control, like a more powerful Dark Spiral only actually inside them. When they were deleted, the Dark Data, unseen by the rest of us, was absorbed by TK. Then about a year later…

(Cut to Takato and Ryo)

Takato: Tell me, do you ever feel like there's something up with Rika?

Ryo: What do you mean?

Takato: Basically, do you ever feel that you're not the only one for her?

Ryo: Have you gone through all of those with Jeri?

Takato: All of that and more. I'm getting a bit suspicious.

Ryo: Do you have any actual basis for this?

Takato: Her phone is usually busy.

Ryo: Well, you know her father's a busy guy.

Takato: I call her personal line. It's still busy.

Ryo: I see…

Takato: So, how do I step around this so that if I'm wrong I haven't burned any bridges behind me.

Ryo: You don't side-step at all, you confront her directly. If you're wrong, she'll at least realize she hasn't been spending enough time with you.

Takato: I think I'll talk to her right now.

Ryo: That's the spirit.

(Takato picks up the phone and dials Jeri's number. Screen changes to a split-screen so we see Jeri picking up)

Jeri: Hello.

Takato: Hey Jeri.

Jeri (sweatdropping, but acting calm on the phone): Takato, what a pleasant surprise.

Takato: Listen, I need to talk to you about something tonight.

Jeri: I'm sorry, I have plans for tonight.

Takato: With who?

Jeri (looking REALLY nervous, but still speaking calmly): My family's going out for a nice dinner for Mikiko's birthday.

Takato: I didn't know it was his birthday.

Jeri: I guess I must have forgotten to tell you. Anyways, how's tomorrow for you?

Takato: Tomorrow's great. No problems there at all.

Jeri: Okay, see you then Takato.

(Jeri hangs up and the screen turns back to a single-screen with Takato and Ryo)

Ryo: So?

Takato: Her family's going out to dinner to celebrate Mikiko's birthday tonight, but we're on for tomorrow.

(Ryo looks dubiously at Takato)

Takato: What?

Ryo: Takato, Mikiko's birthday was in March. Jeri brought the leftover cake to us when we met in the park, remember?

(Cut to Renamon talking to a Candlemon. Both are in Rika's house)

Renamon: Listen, I don't like you and you don't like me. But we have to get along and fight together for Rika.

Candlemon: I didn't come here to pick a fight with you, I came here to save Rika. You know that in the end she will be my partner.

Renamon: Indeed, I know better than any what the future holds. And yet, I can not share my knowledge with her. How am I to alter the future if I can not tell her about it? How am I to save him?

Candlemon: His fate is already set in stone. Rika's, however, is still wide open. We will find a way.

(Cut back to Kazu and Kenta still listening to Gomamon's story)

Gomamon: …So Izzy eventually determined that it would take truly noble actions to restore TK to what he had once been and instructed the others to use the D-Blades and plunge the energy blades into theirselves. The only one killed was Joe, whose sense of responsibility towards others led him to be the first to stab. The others were just deprived of their status as Digidestined. With no partners, the six of us were sent back to the Digital World. Togemon took control of a day-care on another Digital Plane, Agumon and Gabumon… who knows, they just returned to their Fresh stages and from there, I'm not sure what happened to them. I mean, I don't even know if they digivolved the same way.

Kazu: Let me guess, the Hououmon we saw after Calumon unleashed the Shining Digivolution was Biyomon.

Gomamon: Yep.

(Kenta counts on his fingers and realizes that only five of the Digimon are accounted for)

Kenta: But, what happened to Tentomon?

Gomamon: Last I checked he was looking for his Tamer in Australia.

Kenta: First Adam, now this? This is seeming like more and more of an international incident. I need to know the locations of the remaining Digidestined.

Gomamon: I'm pretty sure TK moved to France, but I'm not sure of the others, I just know that there's two here.

Kazu: In all seriousness, what do you think of Jeri's new partner?

Gomamon: I don't know what to think. He seems loyal, but then again…

Kazu: You can't tell with him.

Gomamon: Exactly.

[Rika: Where do you think you're going? We'll be right back.]

COMMERCIAL

[Renamon: Time to phase back to Digimon]

(Henry is sitting in his living-room watching a tape of "The Ring". We see that it is at the first viewing of the Tape. Just as the screen turns to static, the phone rings)

Henry: What the…

(Henry picks up the phone nervously)

Voice: Seven days…

(Henry slams the phone down and runs out of the room, where he immediately runs into Ashley holding a cell phone and smirking.)

Henry: Don't… do… that…

Ashley: Sorry, I couldn't resist. Maybe if you were less superstitious and a bit smarter you would have caught me on that one.

(Henry turns back around to see the image of the Well stuck on the screen. The TV screen starts glowing, and something looking very much like Samara seems to appear)

Henry: Holy shit, it's real!

(The creature crawls towards the stunned Henry. As it reaches Henry, the form of the creature shifts to Impmon)

Henry: Okay, how did you two do this?

(Ashley pulls a Bakemon card out of her pocket)

Ashley: While you were panicking over the phone-call, I used this to emulate Bakemon's transformation powers. And while I was telling you how gullible you were, I discreetly used this one, a Wall Phase card, to get Impmon into the TV. From there, he just transformed himself into an image of Samara and while your back was turned on me and you were looking on in horror, I slashed a Speed card to have him move towards you at an incredible pace.

Henry: Don't ever do that again.

Ashley: What, it's notlike ou would fall for it again.

(Suzie walks into the room)

Suzie: Hey, Henry, it's almost seven.

Henry: Thanks Suzie.

(Henry turns to Ashley)

Henry: `d better got going if I'm gonna get to that movie.

(Henry walks out the door, with Terriermon following him.)

Henry: Terriermon, what are you doing?

Terriermon: If Alice's army strikes while you're out, I need to be there to protect yoU>

Henry: Look, Terriermon, I would really appreciate it if you would stay here today.

Terriermon: Okay, but you owe me.

(Cut to Adam's house)

Adam: Up until two days ago, I was normal. Now I'm suddenly part of a team saving the world.

(There's a knock on the door)

Jake: (OS) Adam, who are you talking to in there?

Adam: I'm just trying to script out a fanfic. I find it goes better if I say the lines outloud.

Darkveemon: What are you talking about? We kicked some major butt out there against those evil Digimon.

(Jake opens the door)

Darkveemon: Yep, we sure do make a great team.

(Adam makes the `cut it out' neck motion)

Darkveemon: (not noticing Adam's motion or Jake) Yep, and we kicked even more two days ago when we fought that Ladydevimon. Man, she didn't know what deleted her!

Jake: What the fuck? I thought that was just a Pokeyman doll.

Adam: Look, the whole world doesn't need to know about this. In fact, it would be best if you could keep this to yourself.

(Jake's already left the room)

Adam: Oh shit.

(Adam logs onto his MSN account and sees that Jake has changed his name to "jakE - My brother's in charge of saving the world. We're all gonna die!")

(Cut to Jeri's house where she is on her way out.)

Mr. Katou: Have fun on your date.

Jeri: It's not a date. I'm just meeting a friend and going to a movie.

Mikiko: Jeri has a boyfriend.

Jeri: Yes, but this isn't with him.

(There's a knock at the door. Jeri opens it to reveal Henry waiting outside)

Henry: You're looking good, Jeri.

Jeri: Thanks.

(The two walk away to the bus stop, hand in hand)

Mikiko: Sure seems like a date to me…

[Takato: Digimodify! Break activate!

Computerized voice: Digimon will be back]

COMMERCIAL

[Takato: Heads, TV; Tails, homework. Looks like it's back to Digimon.]

(Open on Takato on the phone and looking annoyed)

Takato: You saw WHAT?

Kazu: Jeri and Henry were at the movie together.

Takato: Well, maybe they both saw the same movie and ended up sitting beside each other.

Kazu: They didn't see much of the movie actually.

Takato: What? You mean they walked out early, right?

Kazu: Poor, naïve Takato.

Takato: What do you mean?

Kazu: Let me put it this way. Your girlfriend and your best friend were at a movie together. They stayed through the entire film, and into the credits, and possibly even after the credits. I didn't stick around to watch them. They still missed about 90% of the movie. What more do I need to say, Chumley? That there was a gratuitous sex scene, but not on the screen? That the janitor probably hated his job today?

Takato: How about you explain why Jeri would be acting so completely different than usual.

Kazu: It's Henry's influence. Perversion is infectious.

Takato: Well, thanks for telling me that.

Kazu: No problem. How do you plan to handle it anyway?

Takato: I'll wait until she brings it up, guilt ridden.

Kazu: You might be waiting a while there, Taka-toe. She was definitely ridden at that theatre, but it wasn't by guilt.

(Takato hangs up, slamming the phone down.)

Narrator: Man, talk about your bad days. Maybe things'll go better for Takato on the next Digimon: Digital Monsters.

First, I apologize for misleading you with the commercial last time. Think of this as the first of two episodes shown on the same day. The commercial on this one is actually the commercial for the eleventh episode.

Ten down, forty one to go (counting the sneak peek chapter as done). I'm almost 20% finished with this story.

Okay, now I'm starting to tie all my fics together in one big honkin' `fanon'. Gomamon's description of "the beginning of the end" was the incident presceding Darkened Hopes, in which only the year of needs to be changed to correctly fit into my canon universe (three years later instead of four).

Gomamon's comment is also allegorical in a way. When I came up with that incident in the past, that was when I started pulling at straws for the plot. That was also when I came up with a ridiculously long plot consisting of (among other things) the reincarnation of the Dark Masters as secondary partners, Tai being killed and returning as Devimon, the Tamers being pulled into that universe, the entire group going to the Tamers' universe… 25 years in the future, a Digital clone of Yolei making the Digidestined think she had gone bad, three battles against various stages of Myotismon, Myotismon being the force controlling the Chaos, Crests for the 02 group (actually, I finished that one), a Digimon with the ability to control time sending the group to various crucial incidents in Adventure, two new stages of Apocalymon, among other ideas that seemed great in my head but backed me into MAJOR writer's block, eventually leading to the premature death of Darkened Hopes. Now that I have a reasonable end, however, I need to find some way to get it up to there, until then it shall remain in Suspended Animation

You may be wondering why at the end of the last chapter Alice instructed her army to regroup and attack, but at the beginning of this one she told them to retreat. That is closely guarded information. It is not a plothole; it is deliberate and will be explained a while down the road. In other words, don't hold your breath.

And this is where I start to screw around with the couples that have been previously established. Jeri and Henry's connection has now been established (and I'll bet you're questioning my devotion to any couple now) but what will happen next is currently anyone's guess.

Ah, I love having a chapter so far away already written. It allows me to do so much foreshadowing and also allows a few fourth-wall shots. Ryo (who is obviously the `he' Renamon and Candlemon are discussing) indeed has his fate set in stone 30 episodes down the road. As for Rika, she has an interesting future ahead of her, but I'm unsure of how to get her there. Hence, her future is currently wide open. And if you wonder how Renamon can see the future, remember, she's a Kitsune, she is able to communicate psychically with Rika, and so a glimpse into the future isn't exactly unexpected.

The entire Ring bit may have seemed like a pointless highlight of my recent obsession, but believe me, it will be important a few episodes later. Just wait and see.

Next Chapter: The Crest Cards. (The invasion continues. Fight, Megalogrowmon!) Really, it's coming this time. I swear.
