DIGIMON TAMERS: RECONFIGURED

Narrator: After Gomamon accidentally let it slip that the Digidestined once existed, Kazu and Kenta made him explain everything that had happened. Takato was kinda suspicious about Jeri, and when he called her to clear things up, his suspicions were confirmed. Meanwhile, Adam failed to hide Darkveemon, and he was discovered by Jake. Jeri and Henry went out on a date, and Takato got all the details from Kazu. Man, this just isn't his day!

THEME

(Open on a harbour somewhere, where a Digital Field is starting to form)

Calumon: Not again…

(Quick cut to all the Tamers except Suzie gathered around the expanding field)

Takato: You ready?

All: Yeah!

(Ladydevimon, Skullsatamon, and Phantomon appear out of the fog)

Takato: Okay, everyone choose a Digimon. This time we won't let them get away!

Phantomon: If I were you, I'd worry about my own life.

Henry: You don't scare us, pal.

Kazu: Speak for yourself!

Kenta: Yeah, this is SO not our place. I mean, the Digidestined dealt with these guys when they had Ultimates, and even then it was close!

Ashley: Don't tell me you two are chickening out of this.

Kazu: Fine, we won't tell you, we'll just run away!

Voice: Dark Whips!

(two beams of dark energy hit behind them)

Kenta: We're surrounded!

[Takato: Digimodify! Break activate!

Metalic voice: Digimon will be right back.]

COMMERCIALS

[Kenta: We're back!

Kazu: Thank you, Captain Obvious.]

Kenta: Ah, man! We're trapped!

Rika: Looks like your plan to back out of this backfired, huh? Now, are you willing to stand and fight?

Kazu: Like we have a choice! Guardromon, buy the others some time with a distraction.

Guardromon: Guardian Barrage!

(The attack hits Ladydevimon)

Ladydevimon: Don't you know not to hit a lady?

Kazu: I'll tell you when I see one.

Ladydevimon: Darkness Wave!

(the bats go flying at Guardromon)

Rika: This had better work. Digimodify!

(Rika swipes the Digivolution card through twice)

Rika: Double Digivolution activate!

DIGIVOLUTION

(Renamon and Candlemon appear on a split screen. Two different coloured matricies come out of Rika's D-Power)

Renamon: Renamon, Digivolve to…

Candlemon: Candlemon, digivolve to…

(The two digivolve to their respective Champion stages)

Kyubimon: Kyubimon!

Icedevimon: Icedevimon!

Rika: Perfect!

(All the other Tamers had used their cards at the same time.)

Takato: Let's see them stop us now!

Ashley: Go for it Satamon!

Growlmon: Pyro Blaster!

Satamon: Six Shooters!

(The attacks hit Phantomon)

Phantomon: Is that all you have? That was pathetic! Now, for a REAL attack… Shadow Scythe!

Takato: Growlmon, look out!

(Takato and Ashley slash Hyper Speed cards as their Digimon escape the attack)

Takato: They're not strong enough. Even with Power cards.

(Cut to Jeri cornered by a Dragomon)

Dragomon: Just what I was looking for.

Bakemon: Leave her alone! Dark Claw!

Dragomon: This is her protector? This is going to be easier than I thought. Tentacle Claw!

(Something zooms by and Dragomon's attack finds nothing but air)

Dragomon: What happened?

Gargomon: I happened! Gargo Laser!

Dragomon: Get away, you stupid mutt. Tentacle Flapping

(Dragomon uses one of his tentacles to knock Gargomon aside)

Henry: This isn't working.

Gargomon: Where did he come from anyways? He wasn't here in the first place!

Bakemon: Don't ask, just fight!

(Cut to Rika, Kyubimon and Icedevimon fighting Ladydevimon)

Kyubimon: Dragon Wheel!

Icedevimon: Avalanche Claw!

(Ladydevimon dodges Kyubimon's attack and uses her wings to reflect Icedevimon's away from her)

Ladydevimon: Really, that's the best you can do? That's not even good enough to be pathetic! Let me show you a real attack. Dark Whips!

(Whips of pure dark energy appear in her hands. She then hits both of her opponents with them.)

Rika: This is not good at all.

(Cut to Ryo, Adam, and Kenta and their Digimon fighting Skullsatamon, while Kazu sits trying to wake up a Kokuwamon.)

Strikedramon: Strike Claw!

(Skullsatamon turns around to face Strikedramon, turning his back on Darkexveemon.)

Darkexveemon: Dark Laser!

(SkullSatamon turns around again, this time powering up a Nail Bone and aiming at Kazu.)

Kenta: No!

(Kenta grabs a Digivolution card from Adam and swipes it through his D-Power)

Kenta: Digimodify! Digivolution activate!

DIGIVOLUTION

Gomamon: Gomamon, digivolve to…

(Gomamon digivolves to Ikkakumon)

Ikkakumon: Ikkakumon!

(Ikkakumon fires a Harpoon Torpedo, which misses Skullsatamon, but throws off his concentration so his attack misses.)

Kazu: Thanks. I don't know where I'd be without you.

Ikkakumon: Probably six feet under.

(Cut to Gargomon and Bakemon, trying desparately to fight Dragomon.)

Gargomon: Try a little of this. Bunny Pummel!

Bakemon: And how about an Evil Charm!

Dragomon: Stop, that tickles! Tentacle Claw!

(Gargomon and Bakemon both do whatever they can to avoid the attack.)

Henry/Jeri: Digimodify! Power Activate!

(Dragomon is hit with an unexpectedly powerful attack)

Dragomon: They've gotten too powerful. I shall leave now, Mistress.

(Dragomon vanishes)

(SkullSatamon leaves a pile of defeated Rookies behind him to take the place of Dragomon)

Darkveemon: Did anyone get the number on that Trailmon?

Gomamon: Yeah, it was P-A-I-N.

(Cut to Growlmon and Satamon fighting Phantomon.)

Phantomon: Enough of this. Shadow Scythe!

(The attack heads towards Ashley)

Takato: Ashley, look out!

(Takato pushes Ashley out of the way, and as the attack comes closer something appears in his hand. Time seems to slow down around Takato as he looks at the card which has formed. It's blue with an orange Crest of Courage in the middle.)

Takato: What's this? This can't be what it looks like. But, what else could it be? This… this is the Crest of Courage. On a Blue Card. It's… a Crest Card!

(Takato slashes the card through his D-Power)

Takato: Digimodify! Matrix Digivolution activate!

(nothing happens)

Takato: Digimodify…

(Takato's eyes light up as he gets an idea)

Takato: …Crest Digivolution activate!

CREST DIGIVOLUTION

(A 3D Crest of Courage rises from a Blue Card and flies towards - and through the slot on - Takato's D-Power, which then shoots an orange beam at Growlmon)

Growlmon: Growlmon, digivolve to…

(Growlmon digivolves to Wargrowlmon)

Wargrowlmon: Wargrowlmon!

(Wargrowlmon uses his blades to deflect Phantomon's attack)

Takato: Good to have ya back, buddy.

Wargrowlmon: No time now. Fight.

Takato: Right.

(Wargrowlmon turns towards Phantomon)

Wargrowlmon: Radiation Blades!

(Wargrowlmon slashes repeatedly at Phantomon, who counters by swinging his scythe.)

Takato: No more fooling around, it's time to end this.

Wargrowlmon: Right. Atomic…

Takato: …Blaster!

(The twin jets of fire shoot out of Wargrowlmon's chest, incinerating Phantomon. Phantomon's data is seen flying towards the sky)

Takato: Alright, we did it!

[Calumon: Where are you going? I promise we'll be right back.]

COMMERCIALS

[Impmon: Whaddayaknow? We're back!]

Alice: Okay, retreat. They've won this round, but it's far from over.

(Alice and the remaining attackers fade out)

Kazu: Man, that was sweet. How'd ya do that, Chumley?

Takato: I don't know. I just got Ashley out of danger, and the next thing I knew, time seemed to slow down and that weird card appeared in my hand.

Jeri: That does it! I'm going to talk to Yamaki about all this.

Takato: Why?

Jeri: You haven't noticed the new copyrights on Digimon merchandise? It's all trademarked to Hypnotic Enterprises International.

Adam: Of course, that could be a moniker for HYPNOSIS.

Ryo: It's moniker, not moniker! And it's called HYPNOS.

Jeri: In any case, I'm going to HYPNOS now. Who's with me?

Rika: Sure, I'd like to know what Yamaki's been up to recently. You coming Ashley?

Ashley: No way, no how, no chance.

Henry: I'll go.

Adam: Sure, I'd love to see this "HYPNOTIZE" place. After all, I've heard so much about it, and I just want to know something new.

Ryo: Adam, it's HYPNOS, not HYPNOSIS or HYPNOTIZE or whatever else you think it is. And count me in.

Takato: I'd go, but I need to talk to Ashley about something

Jeri: Come on, let's go.

(The group starts to leave)

Kazu/Kenta: Hey, wait for us!

(They take off running after the group)

Ashley: So, what did you want to talk about?

Takato: A lot of things. I'll just start with a question, how exactly did you know Impmon?

Ashley: Well, it's difficult to explain, but I'll try.

(Flashback starts, indicated by cloudy edges of screen and grey-scale colouring. A young Ashley runs, crying into her room and turns on the television.)

Ashley (VO): When I was mistreated at home, I went upstairs and watched Digimon. Eventually, it occurred to me that if I had a Digimon partner, no one would ever hurt me again.

(A/N: At that point, Adventure was airing for the first time in the Tamers timeline.)

(Young Ashley picks up a pen and paper and starts drawing. We see her work, there are several demonic Digimon with names like "Killerdramon" and "Blademon" and with attacks like "Clawed Death" scribbled under them.)

Ashley (VO): One day, after things got particularly bad, I sat down at my desk and started trying to design myself a partner. Most of what I came up with were hate-fueled demons designed to do to my father things just as unspeakable as he had done to me.

(Camera zooms in on a rough drawing of Impmon. We then see Young Ashley redrawing Impmon putting great detail into it. She writes out his attacks before deciding that something seems to be missing. After some thought, she draws on the smiley.)

Ashley (VO): But one just stuck. It definitely wasn't the strongest, only a Rookie, but something seemed so right about it. I called it Impmon. I took that rough drawing, and redrew it in a good copy, perfecting such details as the tail and the green eyes. Then I gave him the attacks "Badda Boom" and "Infernal Funnel". The smiley on his chest is because he was supposed to be my ticket to better times.

(Show Young Ashley with what appears to be drawings of a D-Power from all sides and a map of the Shinjuku district. The screen then changes to a shot of Guilmon House)

Ashley (VO): I even designed a digivice that would allow me to bring him into this world. After some thought about where he could appear without creating too much of a stir, I settled on a spot in the park. An old concrete shed where no one went.

Takato (VO): You mean the place I stored Guilmon, for exactly the same reason?

Ashley (VO): Exactly.

(A man in a yellow jacket and blue hat is seen wiring together a pure black D-Power.)

Ashley: I got a computer genius my father knew to help wire the D-Power. It took months, but eventually we finished in April last year.

(Show Ashley, looking almost exactly like her current self being given a card by the mysterious man, (Okay, fine, I'll just say Shibumi) then sliding card followed by the picture through the slot.)

Ashley (VO): He gave me a special card and told me to use it to activate the Digivice.

Takato (VO): Was that card by any chance blue?

Ashley (VO): Yes. Anyways, I swiped the card, followed by the pictures of Impmon, through the slot on the new Digivice.

(Show Ashley going to the park, to the spot she had chosen for Impmon's arrival. She gets there in time to see the light indicating there was a Digimon there fade out. She turns around to see Ai and Mako fighting over something.)

Ashley (VO): I went to the spot, but Impmon was nowhere to be seen. I saw two young kids fighting over what I thought was some kind of doll, but the connection didn't become clear to me until later, at which point it was too late.

(End flashback)

Takato: Whoa, that's weird.

Ashley: What is?

Takato: I designed Guilmon from scratch too.

Ashley: Do you think we could be…

Takato: I think we're just a couple of big dreamers who think the same way. Although, when I designed Guilmon I didn't think he would become real. But, deep inside it was like I knew. It was probably like the same feeling you got looking back at Impmon's rough sketch. You know, the "I don't know how, but this is going to affect my life" feeling.

(Takato and Ashley share a long, awkward glance)

Ashley: I got that feeling again just now.

Takato: Yeah, so did I.

(The two share another glance and slowly bring their faces closer together until…)

Guilmon: Takato, I'm hungry. Shouldn't we be going?

Takato: Guilmon, you're always hungry. There's some bread in my bag.

(Guilmon walks happily over to the bag, completely clueless as to how he just ruined the moment)

Takato: Do you know what Henry did yesterday?

Ashley: He went to a movie, right?

Takato: That's part of it…

(Cut to the other Tamers at the HYPNOS building.)

Jeri: Well, let's go. I need to talk to Yamaki.

Henry: (slightly malicious tone) Not as much as I do.

(A/N: remember, Henry is the only one who knows Ashley's secret)

(The tamers enter the building and walk through the lobby. They get into an elevator with two other people. A quick shot reveals these people to be Daisy and Babel.)

(The Tamers finally arrive at Yamaki's office.)

Yamaki: Okay, what do you kids want?

Jeri: We have some questions to ask you.

Yamaki: About what?

(Jeri pulls out the booster pack of cards)

Jeri: Ever since these new logos started appearing on Digimon merchandise we've been finding weird cards which not only help us, but are exactly what we need at the time.

Yamaki: And this affects me how?

Jeri: The logo is the symbol you used for that Yugoth thing, and the name of the company is "Hypnotic Enterprises."

Adam: And this place is called "HYPNOTIC", isn't it.

Ryo: (really annoyed voice) No, it's called HYPNOS. But, anyways, we suspect you're somehow involved in this.

Yamaki: Fine, we bought it all off Toei. Quite frankly, I'm surprised it took you this long.

Rika: Well, we're not all fanatics like Gogglehead. Also, were those the Monster Makers?

Yamaki: Yes. They're working on a secret project to get rid of the current threat in the Digital World before it gets here. Unfortunately, it's so secret they haven't even told me what it is. Any other questions?

Henry: I have a question.

Yamaki: Ask away.

(Henry punches Yamaki in the nose, to the shock of everyone else there. Yamaki falls down with a bloody nose.)

Henry: How could you do that to your own daughter, you sick son-of-a-bitch? How could you rape Ashley?

[Ashley: Don't believe everything you hear, but we'll be right back]

COMMERCIALS

[Takato: Heads, TV; tails, homework. Looks like it's back to Digimon.]

(Fade in on the Wong house)

Janyu: Henry, I understand you caused Mr. Yamaki some trouble today.

Henry: Yes, dad.

Janyu: What exactly was it that gave you the inspiration to go see him at work and attack him?

Henry: He hurt Ashley a lot worse than that punch could have possibly hurt him. He'll forget about that punch in a few weeks, but what he did to her will stay with her forever.

Ashley: There was really no need…

Henry: Yes, there was. I couldn't let him get away with it.

(After dinner, Ashley and Henry are talking)

Ashley: I'm sorry I didn't thank you at dinner. I just wouldn't have been able to explain why I was thanking you without giving away my past situation. Anyways, close your eyes, I have something for you.

(Henry closes his eyes… and gets slapped)

Henry: What was…

Ashley: That's from Takato for stabbing him in the back. He's your best friend, how could you and Jeri not at least tell him what was going on?

Henry: I didn't think he'd understand. I mean, he's liked Jeri since they first met. How could I have just told him?

Ashley: Do you think it was easy for me to tell you what had happened? No, but I did because you were my friend, and I had been hoping…

Henry: You had been hoping what?

Ashley: After the dreams stopped, I was hoping that we wouldn't just stop at friendship. I was…

(Ashley breaks down crying)

Ashley: You betrayed two friends at the same time. I don't know if I can stay here.

Henry: Where will you go?

Ashley: It's not like this is the first time I've left a house. I'm sure I'll think of something.

(Ashley gathers her stuff, still sobbing)

Ashley: Come on, Impmon, we're out of here.

(Ashley and Impmon walk out of the house while sad music plays in the background.)

Narrator: Ouch, looks like Henry should be a little less secret with his life. Where will Ashley go now? And what's next for the Tamers? Maybe we'll see on the next Digimon: Digital Monsters.

Wow, I'm over 20% done with this series. Many of you have noticed the difference in the time it takes to do chapters. This is not only because the chapters can be different lengths, but also because some chapters I need to look over and be sure that there are no contradictions with either the actual series (at this point with the recent revelations there are 155 episodes to take into account, 54 from Adventure, 50 from 02, and 51 from Tamers) or previous chapters (10 counting the prewritten preview chapter). Of course, there are exceptions, like Gomamon's lines in the last chapter, which completely destroyed the Adventure epilogue.

Adam's lack of experience in Japan is shining through. The line about a "moniker" for HYPNOS was because, were there a Japanese version of this, the actual line wouldn't have made sense, because the English translations of the mixed-up words wouldn't have sounded anything like each other. As for HYPNOS/Hypnotic, that was originally there, since I/Adam would be used to terms like Hypnotic and such.

The more I write Ashley, the more she seems like an actual character. What can I say, the backstory is what really does it. So many characters are created but not given reasonable backstories. As a result, they usually come off as flat, lifeless characters who are just there because they're there.

Ashley's story also explains some things from the actual series. For example, why was there a portal directly under the shed Guilmon stayed in, and how did Ai and Mako come across Impmon?

Takato's line about a couple of big dreamers was a somewhat clever meta-reference to the Japanese Tamers theme. For those of you who don't know, the song was called "The Biggest Dreamer". Just an interesting little detail there.

Everyone now knows about Ashley. You know how the others found out, but what about Takato? He kind of figured it out when she told him she had designed "hate-fueled demons, designed to do to [her] father things as unspeakable as he had done to [her]". After all, what else could be so terrible that she would be designing Digimon to torture and kill him?

Hopefully this chapter has beeen an indication of my range. It started in a battle, got sap territory between Takato and Ashley (frankly, I was shocked that I was able to write that "Somehow going to affect my life" bit), went into the mysterious bit at HYPNOS and ended with the melodrama between Ashley and Henry. With just a little bit of language-confusion humour added for flavour.

You may have noticed the lack of commercials in this chapter. Well, this chapter didn't contain any spoiler commercials because they were given away in the last chapter. Next time, they will be back where they belong.
