DIGIMON: The Pure Darkness

LAST EPISODE:

KOUJI - We travelled to the city so we could have Kari's friend Izzy to take a look at and hopefully fix the digivices belonging to Ken and I and while there Kari told me that she had feelings for my brother... which doesn't really surprise me... they get along well. Then as soon as we get back I'm faced with a letter detailing the date of takuya's funeral...

...things just get better ey? But I wonder if I really did see a person trapped within the darkness...

Episode Eleven: - "Dark of Night! Light of Day!"

As a fierce bitter winter wind blew around Kouji causing his hair the flap about his face as he stared at the headstone in front of him, completely ignoring the freezing cold rain that the wind had brought with it.

"Takuya Kanbara..." Kouji whispered to himself, reading the name off the headstone.

Takuya's funeral ceremony had only just finished and people were beginning to leave the graveyard, eventually only Kouji and his friends remained. Only Junpei, Kouichi and Ken had gone out of the group as the others didn't really feel like they knew Takuya well enough to attend.

After saying his final goodbye to Takuya, Kouji began to walk across the cemetery to where his friends were waiting by Junpei's car outside the gates.

"So that's it, ey?" Junpei said as Kouji joined them. Kouji nodded sadly as he looked at the ground.

"I wish he was here now, he'd have his way of cheering us all up" Kouji told them, then a small smile grew on his face as he remembered the happy hyperactive takuya he knew.

"Yeah he sure would..." junpei agreed. He then got the car keys out of his pocket and unlocked the door of his car. He got into the drivers seat while Kouichi called shotgun for the front. Before he got into the car Kouji looked at ken who was leant against the car staring at the floor, so he put a reassuring hand on his shoulder making him look up.

"Come on..." he said softly to him. "..lets go home"

After they had arrived back at the dorm buildings of the college Kouichi immediately ran off to Kari's dorm, the two of them had promised to meet there after Kouichi got back.

"Ack! What do you mean you're busy?" Kouichi snapped after Kari had answered the door to her dorm room. Kouichi then pouted a little and put on a little puppy dogface. "You promised"

"I know I did and I'm so sorry..." kari apologized franticly. "...I've just missed a lot of work recently and I'm trying to get it all done"

"The world is in danger and all you care about is your college work!?!" kouichi sneered.

"Well all you seem to care about at the moment is going out somewhere..."

Kouichi fell silent realizing Kari had got him with that remark. In a moment of frustration he just screwed up is face in anger and clenched his fists hard.

"Well...well..FINE!" he snapped before stomping off down the hallway. "See if I care!"

Kari just frowned as she watched kouichi storm off, she then lowered her head in shame.

"I'm...sorry..." she whispered, before going back into her dorm and shutting the door, hoping kouichi's anger with her would wear off soon.

As he left the dorm building Kouichi calmed down and realized what a fool he had just made of himself, and over something so stupid, how could he be angry at Kari for breaking off their previous plans...all friends do it from time to time when they have more important commitments to take care of and he knew that she would of made it up to him later on.

With that kouichi sighed and just slumped against a nearby tree.

"How can I be anymore of a idiot..."

He looked up at the dorm building in front of him, wondering if he should go back and apologize to Kari, but he didn't want to disturb her from her studies again so decided he'd do it later. With that he walked off slowly, deep in his own thoughts.

He hadn't got far when he felt and awful sudden wave of dark energy before him, making him step back a few paces. Some meters in front of him was the darkness, which was still growing rapidly. He watched it for a while with deep interest finding himself wondering where it came from and why it was doing what it was doing. Then his attentions were drawn towards some very rowdy people right next to it destroying whatever they could grab hold of. Not wanting to get caught up in it kouichi turned and began to walk away but as he did a small swirl of what seemed to be black smoke from the darkness approached him from behind and began to twist and turn around him.

"Leaving so soon..." he heard a sinister voice ask him, making him stop walking and freeze to the spot. "...aren't we going to have any fun?"

With that Kouichi slowly turned around so he was facing the darkness and gave it a very smug looking grin.

"If fun is what you want...fun is what you get!"

Whipping out his dark D-Scanner quickly he evolved to Duskmon and ran towards the darkness as fast as he could. Then he jumped high into the sky and began his attack.

"GEIST ABEND!!!"

Night was approaching and Kari was trying to concentrate on her college work but she was just finding her thoughts going back to kouichi and how mad he was with her. She shook her head to try and get rid of the thoughts that plagued her mind but he still remained in her mind, so she just sat back in her chair and gave out a huge sigh.

"I wish he was here now..." she found herself thinking, but that just saddened her more, she was worried that he might not even want anything to do with her anymore...

...she was worried that she had lost him, but she knew it was silly thinking like that, after all it was a stupid fight, he couldn't be all too mad with her...

...could he?

Soon her attention was directed towards the radio as the news came on.

"And in other news, the dark mass in the grounds of the Tobia College has almost doubled in size since it first appeared a few days ago...what this thing is nobody knows but it seems to be directly effecting anyone who goes near it turning them into extremely violent and dangerous people.

This just in, there seems to be some sort of creature attacking this dark mass, it is described to have dark armor and what seems to be large eyes over it's body... whether this creature is a friend or foe is yet to be determined..."

Kari thought of the description of the creature... dark armor, large eyes... it was then it hit her...

"Duskmon!" she cried out in shock. "Oh Kouichi! Were you really stupid enough to face that thing on your own?"

With that she quickly ran out of dorm room, not even bothering with a coat to protect her from the cold winter night....

...or her Advanced D-Scanner...

"EAT THIS!!" Duskmon cried out as he extended his Crimson blade and tried to cut through the darkness, but it had no effect. "Awww...man! What in the hell can defeat this thing!?!

Suddenly the darkness once again began expanding, catching Duskmon off guard. he tried to scramble to a safe distance but the darkness caught up with him and sucked him into itself just as Kari arrived in the area.

"Kouichi! NO!" she yelled as she attempted to run up to the darkness, but a sudden dark energy wave hit her causing her to fall to her knees and tremble.

"ARGH! I can feel it!!!" she screamed. "Get it AWAY!!!"

Inside the darkness Duskmon opened his eyes slowly and felt himself floating, he couldn't feel a thing, not his body, or any feelings...he just felt...dead...

"Why do I feel like this...?" he asked himself with a sigh.

"Because this is what pure darkness feels like...," a girls voice replied, echoing around him. Duskmon glanced around to try and find the source of the voice but he couldn't see anyone...then he saw a human figure below him, a figure of a girl about his age. She was curled up in a ball as if trying to comfort herself, but she too seemed dead in this world of darkness, no emotions, no anything... Duskmon could sense it.

"Who is she...?" Duskmon thought as he felt his eyes get heavier inviting him to close them, but he fought the feeling off... who knows what would happen to him if he fell unconscious in this place. Suddenly the girl looked up at him with her unemotional face, her eyes as dark as night itself. The two exchanged glances before Duskmon's attention was turned to Kari who he could see outside through the swirling dark clouds. She seemed in so much pain and distress...all he wanted to do was leave the darkness and help her...but he felt like he had no energy to.

Outside Kari opened her eyes and saw Duskmon's faded figure in the darkness. She tried to stand up but the dark energy emitting from the darkness its self just kept forcing her to her knees.

"I've got to help him...," she whispered harshly to herself. "I can't lose him, not now... not now..." Once again she struggled to her feet, keeping her eye on Duskmon's figure, then suddenly she let out a huge yell calling out Kouichi's name.

"KOUICHI!!!!"

A strange glow began surrounding kari and it shot across to the darkness. Duskmon could feel the light restoring his energy; he could move again...he could feel again, everything was coming back.

"Now your in for it!" he sneered to the darkness. With that he let out a loud growl as Duskmon let out a flash of powerful red energy from his body.

Outside Kari could see the darkness beginning to flash red inside, then suddenly it exploded as Duskmon burst out of it and landed beside Kari. Quickly he de-evolved back into his human form and attempted to catch his breath before looking back at where the darkness had been.

Around the fountain there was nothing but a dark mist hanging in the air. Both Kari and Kouichi watched closely as the mist began gathering it's self back together above the fountain in the courtyard, it may not of been defeated but it was now a lot smaller than it was which means that duskmon had taken a lot out of it with that last attack.

Kouichi struggled to his feet and looked at Kari who was smiling at him warmly.

"Thanks..." he said to her. "If it hadn't been for you I would have been toast"

In response Kari just grabbed kouichi's arms and hugged it tightly as both began walking back to Kari's dorm.

As they did a girl on the other side of the fountain groaned as she came too and slowly picked herself up off the floor.

"I'm... free..." she said to herself as she looked at her hands as if checking this was reality. She then looked up at Kari and Kouichi walking away and she smiled smugly at them.

"I have a feeling these next few days will be fun for old Raven..." she sneered before walking off the opposite way.

As they entered Kari's dorm room, kouichi immediately went to the light switch to turn it on, but the warm touch of Kari's hand on top of his stopped him. He looked at her and slowly moved his hand off the light switch as she smiled at him.

"Sometimes I just like to have to moon light up the room" she told him softly as she led him over to the large window that looked over the sofa in the living room. As they stood there Kouichi noticed how Kari's eyes sparkled in the bright light from the moon, almost like crystals. This made kouichi smile at the girl in front of him as he ran his hand through her brown hair.

"You know your eyes look really pretty in the moonlight," he told her making Kari smile slightly.

"Kouichi..." she began. "...please don't ever do anything as stupid as face the darkness on your own again...I... I..." her voice lowered to a whisper as tears formed in her eyes. "...I don't want to...lose you..."

"You won't..." Kouichi replied equally as quiet, then before she knew what was happening Kari found his lips on hers. This took her by surprise at first, but soon she closed her eyes as she wrapped her arms around kouichi and the whole world around them began to melt away so it was just them in the moonlight all alone...

...the unity of darkness and light.

"Why is it when I desperately need coffee there's none in the dorm..." kouji mumbled to himself as he walked out of the coffee shop early the next morning holding a small white polystyrene cup in his right hand, but as he did he accidentally bumped into a girl who was going into the shop. Luckily kouji managed to keep his balance and keep the coffee in his hand, then he and the girl exchanged glances.

"Er...sorry about that..." he apologized. "...I've got my mind on...other things"

"I bet you do" the girl replied with a mocking sound in her voice, she then just turned back around and walked into the coffee shop, leaving a very confused Kouji outside.

"Erm...okay then..." he muttered to himself as he made his way back to the dorm. As he did the girl watched him from the window of the coffee shop and a small sneer came over her face.

As soon as kouji had gotten back into his dorm he instantly placed the coffee beside Henry's laptop on the kitchen table and switched it on to check the progress of the darkness. All of the others had returned to their dorms and such to rest, they all knew they had a big battle ahead.

As he sipped the coffee from the cup Kouichi suddenly walked in through the door and gave out a happy sigh as he fell backwards onto the sofa.

"What's up with you?" Kouji asked his brother as he sipped from the cup again.

"I'm in love!" Kouichi replied with another happy sigh. Kouji's eyes just popped wide open as he chocked on his coffee... again!

"I wish people would stop making me do that!" he muttered to himself before standing up and looking down at his brother. "You? In love? Man! I wouldn't of expected those words coming out of your mouth..."

"Yeah I know" kouichi replied with a huge sigh, obviously somewhere in cloud cookooland. "I didn't expect it either..."

"Well who is the lucky girl then...?" Kouji asked, then he looked at kouichi suspiciously. "...or guy...?"

Kouichi just pulled a face at his brother. "It's a girl, trust me!"

"Then who is it then?"

Kouichi just gave out yet another sigh, as his smile grew larger. "Kari..."

Kouji just gave his brother a warm smile. "Y'know somehow I thought that would happen..."

"Yeah..." Kouichi replied. "...we stayed up half the night just talking to each other, who knew talking was so interesting... then she just fell asleep in my arms..."

"Heh! Cute" Kouji remarked before returning to the laptop but gasped when he saw the size of the darkness making kouichi sit up on the sofa.

"What is it?" he asked as he jumped up and joined his brother.

"How did the darkness get so small? Last night it was huge"

"Oh I kinda went one on one with it..." Kouichi replied looking pretty pleased with himself. "...but... now I've thought of it I saw someone in the darkness when it managed to suck me in... a girl..."

"Really?" Kouji replied. "I thought I saw a figure of a human in there the other day" Kouji then turned to his brother with a serious look on his face. "These next few days I'm planning an attack on the darkness, just us and the others... I have a plan on how to defeat it, I'm just hoping it'll work... but it's gonna be very dangerous and I'm not sure if all of us will make it..."

"Danger?" Kouichi snorted with a smug look on his face. "Ha! I laugh in the face of danger! Hahahaha!"

"Well whatever we have to face...we face it together as a team..." Kouji told his brother, Kouichi nodded in agreement before they went back to watching the darkness on the laptop while running through ideas for the final attack.

NEXT EPISODE:

JUNPEI - Together we formulate a plan of action against the darkness in the hopes that we can defeat it using kouji's secret plan, but do they stand a chance against it while ken is still depressed and unwilling to fight? Then a strange girl shows up and claims to know everything about the darkness... about how it came to be and what it wants...
