Take a Turn
As Lovers
Their relationship seemed to be getting worse and worse. Not just Matt and his father's, but also his and Tai's. Kari was also getting on Matt's nerve. She kept trying to get them back together, which only seemed to be breaking them apart more.
The phone rang and Mr. Ishida walked past Matt - who was sitting on the couch - and answered.
"Hello? Ishida residence." He nodded a few times before handing the phone to Matt.
"Who is it?"
Matt's father shrugged and forced Matt to take the phone.
"Hello," Matt said reluctantly.
"--Kari, what the...?"
"Hello?" Matt asked once more, feeling annoyed.
"Oh, it's you."
"Why did you phone?" Matt asked.
"I didn't phone. You phoned me," Tai accused.
"I did not! Don't lie. I can't believe you! First you accuse me of lying and then you do the same thing!" Matt slammed the phone down angrily.
"Stupid Tai," he cursed under his breath, "but God I miss him."
Matt had no idea his father heard him say it all.

TK sighed, sitting on his bed. It was a hectic day, going back to school and all. People kept wondering what happened and why he was so beaten up. There were rumors that Davis and he got into a fight. Another one was that TK got drunk and someone raped him in an alley and beat him. The last rumor stung the most since it was mostly true. Not that he would ever get drunk, but he did get raped and beaten.
The day seemed so long and Davis was plenty cheerful to him; only TK faintly noticed that Davis wasn't his usual Davis-self. Then again, no one was their usual self, but still... TK wanted to know what was up with his best friend.
There were so many things to be worrying about and so many people as well. Kari seemed to be frantically trying to get Tai and Matt back together, although Matt had told TK that there might be a chance that he and Tai might never get back together. Then there was Matt himself to worry about. TK knew there was more than meets the eye with his brother; knew that Matt was probably never going to be the same again. And now there was Davis to worry about.
His phone rang.
"Hello?" he answered.
"Hi TK! It's Kari. Tomorrow can you come to school early and meet me so we can talk?"
"Uh sure. What about?"
"Oh just the usual," she said in this way-too-sweet voice. TK guessed that her mother was in the room.
"Okay. See you at eight tomorrow morning."
They hung up and TK resumed worrying.

Matt was restricted when it came to the phone. He was allowed only two calls per night. Since Tai had wasted his first call, he was quite annoyed. He really wanted to phone Istu to see what was happening with his digivice and to get it out of the cabinet as soon as possible. When Matt had called on Sunday, he wasn't home and wasted both calls on him. On the other hand, he wanted to phone TK to see how his first day back in school was.
They needed another plan to get back his digivice. His father was now very suspicious of him when it came to staying home alone. Matt had never see his father stay home so much in his life. Even when TK was born it wasn't this bad! Matt had no chance, no chance at all to get his digivice back if his father didn't leave the house! The phone rang for the second time that night and he decided to answer it.
"Hello?"
"Hey Matt, it's Toshiki. Istu gave me the key that goes to the cupboard."
"But didn't my dad take it from you?"
"I'll explain later. When can I come over?"
"I'm not sure," Matt said, keeping his voice low. "I'll think of something by tomorrow morning."
"Okay. And Matt?"
"Yeah?"
"What exactly is this device?" Toshiki asked.
"Um... I'll explain that later too. Talk to you soon."
Matt hung up the phone and returned to doing his homework.

"Hey TK."
"Hi Kari," TK greeted. "So, what's going on?"
"We have to get Matt and Tai back together."
TK groaned.
"Don't you want to see your brother happy?"
"Of course I do," he snapped, glaring at her. His face expression softened. "I'm sorry. We should stay out of this Kari. As much as you think you're helping, you're sort of making things worse."
"I know," she said. "But I hate seeing them like this. They just got together and all because of Ken they broke up!"
TK nodded, not really wanting to talk about this anymore. He hated when Ken came into the conversation.
"So, how are you holding up?" she asked.
"I'm fine," TK replied, smiling. "Everything is just dandy."
"Dandy?"
"Sorry. I've been trained to say that to people."
Kari giggled. "Do you think we'll ever beat Ken?"
"I'm not sure. I don't look at it as a matter of 'beating him'."
"How do you look at it then?"
"I'd rather make him feel as bad as he made me feel," said TK. "He should go through the pain he's caused all of us. I'll also never forgive him for what he did to Matt."
Kari took notice of the rage in TK's voice when he said that. She was right, bad things really did happen when they were there. Kari had a question in mind she wanted to ask, but by the way TK was looking, she was debating if she should ask or not. She did anyway.
"What exactly happened the night you were beaten by Ken?"
TK paused for a moment, trying to find the right words. Images of Ken's face expressions lingered in his mind as he recalled Ken punching and kicking and whipping him. His ears were sensitive to the sounds that were made that night. Sounds of Matt screaming for him to be okay and sounds of his own voice crying in pain. He must have swayed slightly because now Kari was shaking him violently and calling his name.
"TK! TK listen to me! I'm sorry! It's okay! You don't have to tell me."
TK clutched his head and tried to stay standing, but black dots invaded his vision and he struggled to keep still. In his mind Ken was still beating him and the screaming pounded into his ears, though he was unsure if it was Kari or Matt's echoing voice from that night. He fell to the ground, his eyes shut and the screaming finally gone.

The phone was ringing steadily in Matt's ear while he groaned and tried to block it out. Realizing that it might be Toshiki, he answered.
"Hello?" he asked groggily.
"Matt! Oh thank God you answered!"
"Kari, what's wrong?"
"It's TK. We were talking and he suddenly fainted," she replied, sounding like she was crying. "Please come to the school! I don't know what to do. It's still early, but people are starting to come to school now."
"I'm coming!" Matt hung up and shot out of bed, quickly dressing himself. He wondered what they were talking about to cause TK to faint, but he guessed in a matter of moments.
**~**
"Tai," Kari hissed. "Over here."
Tai spotted them and jogged quickly to the area behind some bushes. "What are you doing over here?"
"Like I said on the phone. TK fainted so I dragged him over here."
"Hey TK, wake up," Tai said, shaking him slightly. "Why did he faint?"
"I-"
"TK!"
Kari and Tai both looked up when Matt was shouting his little brother's name. Like she did with Tai, she quickly called him over to the bushes.
"TK, wake up!" Matt said frantically.
"Matt, calm down. TK will be fine! He's just fainted," Tai said.
Matt scowled, still trying to wake him up. "What did you do now, Kari?"
"Kari didn't do anything! People faint some times, you know!" Tai yelled.
"Was I talking to you? No! No I wasn't!" Matt shouted.
"Both of you shut up!" Kari screamed. When she got their attention, she continued, "It was my fault. I asked TK what happened the night... the night you were raped and TK got beat up."
"I wasn't raped," Matt said weakly.
Kari ignored what Matt said and kept talking, "I didn't mean for him to faint. I was only trying to get info on what happened that night so that I could work on a plan to get you guys back together."
They were all silent for a few moments. The only noise was from kids yelling down the soccer field and the occasional shrieking of girls.
"You shouldn't have asked him that. You should have known he was traumatized because he is," Matt said, looking back at his brother. "You have no idea what happened that night."
"Exactly! You won't tell anyone! I need to know Matt! I'm your boyfriend."
"Who says you are? After accusing me of liking to get raped, I don't know anymore," he retorted.
"I was jealous."
"Huh?"
"Well I--uh--wanted to sleep with you first. And not only that, but he... he wrote on your back. That marking will be there forever."
Matt frowned. "How do you think I feel, Tai? I couldn't even stop a kid who's two years younger than me from hurting me. And not only me, but TK too."
"He... He shouldn't have hurt you!" Tai exploded, "I'm going to kill him for hurting everyone! He is going to regret ever touching you! Ever!"
"Tai--" Kari started, but was cut off.
"Shut up! I hate him! Look what he's done to you! I hate everyone right now! Everyone is hurting everyone! It's not right!"
"Tai!" Matt said sternly, enough for Tai to gaze up at him.
Tai took a deep breath and took off. Not running or racing, but just stalked off, like he did the day when they made the plan to get back Matt's digivice.
Matt turned to Kari. "I better get TK home. Tell the teacher he's sick."
"Okay." She added, "Matt, I'm sorry about all of this."
"Don't start, Kari. Just don't start," he said softly.

It was now close to noon, and no one in the Ishida apartment was home except for Matt and TK. Matt was thankful for that. He didn't really want to explain to his father why TK fainted. Now the younger blonde was laying in Matt's bed sleeping. He had waken up around ten, took a few aspirins and went to sleep.
Matt was sitting next to the phone, knowing it would most likely ring. He had planned to meet his band members at school and discuss things with them, but since the issue with TK arised, Matt was forced to not be able to see his band. The band would eventually figure out he's at home and call him, so all Matt could do was wait.
Blue eyes closed and blonde hair fell across his face as Matt leaned back. Tai was in his mind now. Their argument that occurred earlier was replaying in his head. Tai was so... so mad. It scared him actually. He wasn't sure how Tai would react when they faced Ken again. Then again, he wasn't sure how he himself would react.
Would he cry? Run? Scream? Fight? Or would he actually have the dignity not to fall to his will and keep fighting him in name of the Digital World?
"Oh Matt. What have you done to yourself?" Matt asked himself.
"You didn't do this to yourself."
"TK, go back to sleep," Matt mumbled.
"I will. I'm just getting some more sleeping pills."
Matt nodded and shut his younger brother out of his mind, falling back into his thoughts. Just as he began thinking of Ken and Tai again, the doorbell bang, jolting Matt to the floor.
He cursed and scrambled to the door. Without looking to see who it was, he opened it, a little surprised to see who it was.
"Matt I... I know you probably don't want to see me right now."
"It's okay, Tai. It's okay. Come in," Matt said, stepping aside.
Tai walked past him. Just as he shut the door, Tai wrapped his arms around his waist and leaned forward, pressing his lips firmly against Matt's. Matt was a bit shocked at first, but very quickly his lips wanted more of Tai's and he found himself wrapping his arms around the brunette's neck.
Matt groaned in the back of his throat as Tai pressed him against the wall, passionately kissing him. Nothing seemed to matter to either of them except the other and the world around them seemed to vanish.
Finally, Tai slowly broke the kiss, but kept his arms firmly around his waist.
"God Tai... Please never get mad at me again," Matt begged, leaning forward to kiss Tai again.
Tai nodded and happily obliged into the kiss. The pair slowly made their way to the couch, not breaking the kiss. Gently Tai pressed Matt into the couch, trying to remember to be careful about his back, but almost too into kissing Matt to remember anything.
"T-Tai," Matt said, trying to get his attention. "We're okay then?"
Tai nodded, leaning down to kiss Matt again.
Matt protested once more, asking, "So you're not mad?"
"Let's pretend that incident a few days ago never happened," Tai replied, once more leaning down to kiss him.
Matt once more broke off the kiss. "We can't very well forget what happened, Tai. We have to face it together. You and me. As a team, as lovers. If you can't handle that, then you might as well leave," he said, staring into Tai's eyes.
"Matt I see what you're saying... It's just hard for me to accept. You have to understand that. But yeah, we'll get through this together. Me and you forever," Tai said, leaning down again to kiss Matt.
This time, there was no protesting. Matt wrapped his arms around Tai's neck once more and slowly began grinding his body again Tai's. Tai was groaning loudly, kissing Matt even more erotically. He felt as if his body was on fire and his clothes were beginning to put the fire out.
The phone rang. One ring.
Matt paused for a moment before Tai began to stroke his side.
Two rings.
Tai was now considering to answer it.
Three rings.
Now neither of them cared anymore and were too into each other. The machine picked it up.
Hey Matt. Where are ya? Maybe you slept in. Anyway, we're coming by shortly and if you're not home, we'll break in and get your little device thing for you. See you soon.
Gendo's voice rung through Matt's mind and he was trying to interpret what he had just said. Coming over... coming over...
"Hey Tai," Matt said, his voice husky, "let's continue this later."
"Fine with me." Tai sat up and helped Matt sit up too. He leaned forward one last time and gave a quick peck on the lips.
"I'm glad we sorted this out," Matt stated.
"Me too."
They sat still for a few minutes, both feeling relieved that they weren't mad at each other.
"How's TK feeling?" Tai asked finally.
"He's fine. He woke up not too long after we got home and has been taking sleeping pills every hour to help him sleep."
"Don't let him take too many," Tai warned. "He could get addicted."
"I'll keep an eye on him."
Tai smiled and took a hold of Matt's hand. Matt snuggled closer to Tai, resting his head on his shoulder. He felt so secure in Tai's arms, as if nothing bad could ever happen, and like nothing bad ever did.
They stayed like that for a little while, until there was a loud knock on the door including shouting.
"Matt! Open up!"
Matt shot up and quickly opened the door, ushering his band in. "Would you shut up? I don't want anyone around here getting suspicious!"
"Sorry," Istu said.
"Now where's the key?" Matt asked.
"Here," Toshiki said, handing it over.
They rushed into the kitchen where the cabinet was and stood in front of it for a moment.
"Are you going to open it or are we going to sit here until your dad comes home?" Akemi asked.
Matt blinked and stuck the key into the lock. He turned to the left at first, but when it didn't do anything he turned to the right. It made a distinct clicking noise before opening.
"Is it in there?" Gendo asked.
Matt frowned when he didn't see anything and stuck his hand in, feeling underneath document and other papers that were in there. "Where can it be?" he muttered, beginning to fling the papers out.
"Matt, I wouldn't do that," Tai warned. "Maybe you shouldn't take everything out."
But Matt wasn't listening to him. He was reaching in and frantically ripping everything out of there. "It has to be in there! It just has to!" He kept saying that while the others took a step back to prevent being hit with papers and other such things. A minute later, the cupboard was empty and Matt sunk to the floor.
"It should have been there!"
END OF CHAPTER
Oh digivice, where art thou? Damn, I've been reading too much Shakespeare again. Anyway, thanks again to Empress of the Eclipse for letting me use her band! I'll have another chapter out soon!
