The Shadow

Chapter 9

"Angel, you're shadow?" It was more of a statement than a question.

"The one and only." Angel smiled back at her.

Sora looked into the eyes of the one that she thought was her friend. Angel's eyes held so much
hatred and contempt in them that she took a step backwards.

Angel's smile turned into a smirk. "Scared, sora?" She took a step forward. The knife glinted off
her hands.

Sora took a step backwards. Think, Sora, think! Her mind screamed at her. Suddenly Sora's eyes
lit on the clock behind Angel, 10:15AM.. Time! Her mind screamed, stall for time until Tai gets
here. Sora watched as Angel took another step closer, she took a step back keeping the distance
between them. "But. . . but why Angel?"

Angel stopped, her eyes narrowing. "Why? You should know why!"

"Is it. . . is it because of Tai?"

Angel laughed, but it wasn't a happy sound. It send shivers up Sora's spine. " It's all because of
Tai."

"You're in love with him." Sora stated.

Angel shrugged. "When you love someone, you would kill for them."

"But how is this for him?!" Sora couldn't help sounding incredulous.

"Of course this is for him." Angel spit out. "Just because he can't see how wrong you are for him,
doesn't mean I can't."

Sora felt her mouth go dry.

"I'm good for him. I'm the only one for him! We would have been good together, I would have
taken care of him, given him everything that he wanted." Suddenly Angel's eyes flashed. "But
you. . . you had to show up. We could have been together, if it weren't for you."

"At first my intentions were not to kill you, just to scare you. I know you liked him, but you
posted bo threat. But I was wrong." Angel laughed out bitterly. "Out of my wildest dreams, you
guys suddenly got together. He chose you over me." The knife in Angel's hand began to shake.

Sora gulped and took another step backwards. Backing herself out of the kitchen and into the
living room. Angel advanced on her. "I was left with no choice but to kill you. Cause I know once
you're gone Tai would be mine."

"Tai would never like you, even if I died." Sora couldn't help it as those words slipped out of her
mouth.

Angel's eyes flared up, in her anger the knife in her hands slashed out in an arc.

Sora jumped to the left, narrowly missing the knife. Her heart thudded in her chest. Bad idea! Her
mind screamed. Don't try to provoke her.

Angel seemed to calm down a bit. "But why the others? Why did you kill Yatate, and Tasu? They
were no threat to you."

Angel's head snapped up. "They were of every threat to me. Laurie Yatate is the head cheerleader
of West Odaiba, and everybody considers Fanny Tasu as a genius. Tai could at any time be
influenced by them and go back to them. I can't let him do that knowing full well that I'm the only
one for him. So they had to be eliminated. I had to kill them."

Sora felt sick to her stomach. "What about Julia? What did you do to her?"

"Angel seemed surprised by that question. "How did you know about Julia?"

Sora could feel tears coming to her eyes. "I didn't now."

Angel smirked. "So it was a lucky guess, huh? But since you asked the question, I better answer
it. It all started on that night in the park, I could have killed you then, but Tai had to show up. So
I ran off, and guess who I bumped into, none other than Julia." Angel suddenly laughed. " She's
such a fool, luckily for me she didn't call the police on me. The next day I started being nice to
her, pretending she's my new best friend, and she actually believed me. Ha! She was so easy to
deal with. I thought everything was fine, but. . . the foo! She came to my house on Thursday night
to talk to me about trying to kill you. To stop!" Angel sounded outraged. " I've wasted too much
time on this to stop now. But I lied, and told her that I would. When she left my house, I followed
her, and just my luck she decided to take a short cut through an alleyway to get to her home. So I
struck her with a rock from behind, but I then I heard some noises, so I didn't wait to see if she
was dead or not and I left." Angel shrugged. "And it was after I got home that I noticed I had
dropped the purple rose that I had in my pocket."

Sora gasped as a thought came to her. "You've been trying to set Julia up. No wonder all the
evidence that we have against Julia came from you. And she thought of you as her friend!"

Angel smiled. "It doesn't matter to you anymore now does it?" In the next second Angel lunged
at her with the knife in her hands.

Tai burst through the lobby of the apartment. A few people that was getting their mail looked at
him weird. Tai ignored them.

He turned around to Izzy. "Call the police, tell them what we know. And get them here quick."

Without even waiting for an answer, he ran over to the elevator.

"Common, common." he pressed the up button. "Dammit." he cried out. He turned around and
his eyes lit on the stairway. Without even waiting for the elevator, he burst through the door
marked exit. He took the stairs two at a time.

"Please Sora! Please be alright!" He prayed.

Sora jumped to the right avoiding the knife, she silently thanked whoever or whatever it was that
made her take tennis, developing her reflects. She jumped back again. Her body coming up
against the sofa. She looked at the distance between her and the door.

Angel seeing this, jumped infront of her blocking her exit. "Uh-uh-uh!" She shook her head
sarcastically. " This time you're mine."

Suddenly there was a loud bang from the door. "Sora!" A voice called out.

Angel turned towards the door at the sound, momentarily distracted. Sora saw her chance, she
took one of the cushions from the sofa and swung it at the knife with all her strength.

Angel cried out as the knife fell out of her hands and flew across the room, hitting the floor with a
loud bang and then sliding under the kitchen counter.

"Sora!" There was another thud from the door.

"You're dead." Angel cried out in frustration.

There was another thump, then a bang, then Sora watched in amazement as the door swung open
and crashed into the wall. Tai and Izzy stood on the other side of the doorway both rubbing their
shoulders.

"Tai!" Sora called out.

Tai took a step forward but was stopped when angel took a gun out of the inside of her jacket and
pointed it at Sora. "Don't move!" She turned back at Sora with a smirk on her face. "I told you
I'm not gonna fail this time."

"Angel!" Tai called out, trying to distract her from Sora. "Stop this madness right now. You still
have a bright future ahead of you, you could still turn yourself in, and. . ."

"And what Tai?" Angel swung around to face him. "Did you know. . .don't you understand."Her
eyes glistening. "All of this. . . all of this is for you. I did everything for you."

"I know Angel. . . but. . ." Tai took a step forward.

"Don't move!" Angel swung the gun around to face him. Behind Angel, Tai could see Izzy slowly
inching forward. Tai knew what he was supposed to do. "Angel, calm down." He said gently. He
put up both his hands. "I'm not gonna hurt you."

"Tai. . ." Angel's gun lowered a little.

"You're my friend, Angel. I want to help you. So don't do this. . . don't do this to yourself."

Angel's gun lowered another inch. With her guard down and her gun not aiming at Tai's chest
anymore. Izzy took his chances and lunged at her.

"Ahhh!" Angel screamed out as she felt herself being knocked to the floor.

With Izzy's weight on top of her, she could barely move. " It's over angel."

Out of the corner of her eyes she could see Tai running towards Sora. No! This can't be
happening. This can't be over yet. With a strength that surprised even herself, she moved Izzy off
of her. Her arms flailing about her, scratching, slapping anything that she could attack with.

Izzy gave a startled shout as he took his hands off of her to block the fingers that were aiming to
scratch out his eyes.

And in the moment, Angel brought both her arms together and swung with all her might at Izzy's
head.

Izzy felt the butt of the pistol ram against his head. He could have swore he saw stars as he
stumbled backwards off balanced.

Angel didn't waste any time, knowing the weakest spot in any men, she brought her knee up
sharply between Izzy's legs.

Izzy grunted, he's never felt this much pain before in his entire life as red spots blurred his vision.

"Izzy!" Tai called out as Izzy doubled over in pain.

Angel laughed. "One down. . . and he doesn't seem to be getting up."

Sora shivered at Angel's tone.

Angel slowly turned around to face Tai and Sora. "You think you can stop me so easily."

"Angel. . ." Tai began.

"I love you Tai." Angel stared at him. " Came to me, be with me."

When Tai didn't answer, Angel turned her gaze on Sora. "It's you, it's always been you."

"Tai will never love you Angel." Sora stared back at her. "Even without me, he won't love you.
You know why?"

Angel's face twisted in anger.

"It's because you're a heartless bitch. You don't care what other people want, you're just selfish.
When you love someone, you should do whatever it is in your power to make that person happy.
It doesn't matter if that person doesn't return your feelings, it wouldn't matter that they like
someone else. You'll be happy for hem, because they're happy."

"Shout up!" Angel cried out.

"Sora. . ." Tai looked at her.

But Sora ignored them. "You don't love Tai." She stated. "You don't even understand the
meaning of the word."

Angel shook her head.

"You're obsessed with him. You just can't stand that he's the only guy you couldn't get, and
never will."

"Shut up!" Angel swung the gun up and pointed it straight at Sora's chest. "That's not true."

"Yes it is!" Sora couldn't help it as all the horror that she felt turned into anger.

"Shut up, Sora. Shut up right now!" Angel screamed. " I love Tai, I would never hurt him."

"Don't you see. You are hurting him." Sora could feel tears now. "You're hurting his friends,
you're hurting people that he cares about and that's hurting him."

"No! Shut up!" Angel's other hand suddenly came up to the gun, before anyone realized what
was happening. She pulled the trigger.

"No!" Tai screamed as he lunged in front of Sora.

"Tai!" Sora was shocked.

"No!" Angel screamed.

Sora watched in horror as Tai suddenly fell backwards. "Tai!" Sora ran over to his fallen body.
"Tai!" She stared in horror as blood began to soak up the front of his shirt. "Oh god!" Tears
began to blur her vision as she gathered Tai into her arms. "Why did you do that for?" Sora cried.
"Tai, please be alright! Please be alright."

Angel dropped to her knees. "What have I done. I . . . I hurt him. . . I. . .I've killed him." Angel
stared at Tai's limp body in Sora's arms, dazed.

Izzy pushed himself off the floor. He went over to Angel and pried the gun out of her hands. She
didn't resist, she just sat there and stared. Izzy looked over at Tai and Sora, his chest tightened.

Sora's tears fell onto Tai's shirt. "Tai!" Her arms tightened around him. "Don't leave me. I love
you." Sora cried. "I love you."

The sound of the siren can be heard in the distance. . .
