Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ Too many to count on ❯ A night at the beach ( Chapter 10 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

“Hey, food!” Was what Tai said as soon as he saw a coconut tree.

He instantly climbed up the tree and successfully got up to the top, but then didn't have anything to grab them with so he jumped down.

“Hmmm… How do we get those?” Tai questioned the others.

“Try knocking it down.” Cody said looking at the tree.

Tai ran at the tree and banged on it with his shoulder. The tree swayed slightly, as if to say `Go away. You can't knock me down.'

“Give it up, Tai.” Sora said boredly. “What'll you do with coconuts anyway?”

“Eat them!” Tai said.

“Well, besides that!”

“Make cups for our sodas.”

“Our sodas are warm. We'll only drink them if it's the last thing in this world.” Yolei said giving Tai an angry look as she put the sodas in the ocean water with T.K's hat as the basket.

“Okay, fine! Maybe we can use them as cups for that water then.” Tai pouted, crossing his arms.

“Oh, come on. He's finally got a good reason.” Patamon said.

Sora sighed. “Fine.”

“I know, I'll help!” Mimi exclaimed.

She then turned to Palmon. “Palmon, use your Poison Ivy to grab those coconuts!”

“ 'Kay. Poison Ivy!” Palmon said smiling as vines shot out of her fingers and whipped off the coconuts on the tree.

“Awesome!” Davis exclaimed as he watched Tai scramble to the coconuts.

“Augh! These are hard!” Tai said as he rubbed his teeth.

“Tai, you stupid. Gatomon, slice it in half!” Kari said as Gatomon charged forward and, in a split second, sliced all of them in half.

“Yeah, all right!” T.K cheered next to his brother.

They left Tai with all the coconuts as they prepared for a campfire.

“Why do we have to camp out here?” T.K complained as he laid down some firewood on the sand.

“ `Cause it's getting late.” Sora said, pointing at the setting sun.

“But we were at a beach when Joe and Ken were taken.” Mimi said softly, looking around nervously.

Matt looked at her. “Don't worry. Our Digimon'll protect us.”

Mimi looked back at him with a concerned look and whimpered.

“It's okay, Mimi! I'll be your little sister, and little sisters always look out for their siblings.” Yolei said cheerfully as she patted Mimi on the back.

“Uh, you got that wrong, Yolei. The older ones look out for the little ones.” Tai said with his finger up.

“Mimi doesn't need you right now!” Yolei scolded and Tai jumped back in fright.

Mimi smiled at Yolei and nodded. “Thanks, Yolei.”

But Matt saw through her smile and knew she was still scared. Hmm… maybe I can cheer her up.

“Pepper breath!” Agumon yelped as he shot a fireball out of his mouth and made a fire.

They sat around the fire, talking and laughing about Tai throwing up in Sora's hat, and Davis trying to play volleyball with Upamon, Willis trying to fly with Terriermon. One by one, they fell asleep, cuddling with their Digimon.

Matt secretly watched Mimi out of the corner of his eye, waiting for the right time to talk to her. When the last Digidestined fell asleep, Matt crawled over to Mimi.

“Hey,” He said. “What's wrong?”

Mimi didn't say anything, but continued to stare at the sand at her feet. Memories… so many terrible memories playing through her mind. Joe and Ken, stepping out towards the water, the bus crashing diagonally in the sand, those black eyes that she would never see again…

And arm wrapping around her shoulders jerked her out of her trance. She froze, as Matt wrapped his other arm around her and pushed her towards him. She had been so lost in her thoughts about Joe, that Matt didn't really seem to matter anymore.

Matt rested his chin on her head, and Mimi buried her face in Matt's green shirt.

“I miss him…” Mimi murmured, putting her hand on his chest. She didn't really know what she was doing, Joe still invading her mind.

“It's okay, I miss him too.” Matt said, starting to slowly rock back and forth. “We used to make fun of Tai together.”

Mimi laughed a bit, looking at Matt's eyes for the first time. His blue eyes stared into her red ones, almost hypnotizing her.

She tilted her head a bit, so that it rested on Matt's shoulder, her face buried in the blonde's neck. Matt blushed, but didn't encourage her to keep going in any way.

They stood like that for what seemed like hours. Matt rocking Mimi back and forth, while Mimi had her face buried in his neck. Once Matt felt the girl relax in his arms and her breathing steady out, he lowered her onto the sand.

She whimpered. “No… I was comfortable like that…”

Matt smiled. “We've all got to get our rest, Mimi. Now just relax and go to sleep.”

“I can't…” Mimi slowly opened her eyes. She frowned at Matt. “I can't, Matt. I'm so scared.”

“Sh…” Matt whispered. He lowered his body onto Mimi's, until he was right on top of her, straddling her waist with his legs. Honestly, he didn't really know what he was doing. He just wanted to comfort Mimi and make her feel safe.

“Don't worry. I'll keep watch.” Matt said. He cupped her cheek, and lowered his face closer to hers.

Mimi was so glazed she could easily be mistaken for a donut. Joe still invaded her mind, his blue hair, his black eyes… She didn't even remember where she was until Matt's lips were a mere millimeter away from her own.

“Wh--what are you doing?” Mimi whispered. She panicked. What was he gonna do?

“Sh…” Matt softly kissed her, not wanting to rush it. He didn't want Mimi to start thinking things, if she hadn't already. He continued to kiss her tenderly and lovingly, taking it at a slow and steady pace.

Mimi looked calm and surprised on the outside, but inside she was panicking. What was Matt doing? Why was he kissing her? This was so wrong; the boy knew that she still had her eye on Joe, (if that was possible) yet he still kissed her?!

But she didn't complain. She just closed her eyes and tried to relax, whimpering softly in the process. Matt stopped once hearing that sound, and looked down at her, his forehead pressed against hers.

“Goodnight, Mimi.” he whispered.

“Goodnight, Matt.” Mimi replied, eyes still closed.

Matt smirked, knowing all too well that from that moment when he kissed her, from that moment forward, Mimi was his. It helped that he had the good looks, and the girls. Especially if it was someone like Mimi. He hadn't noticed it maybe years before, but she was beautiful. Inside and out. So pure and gentle… and caring and lonely. It just made him love her so much.

Matt rolled over next to Mimi, a faint blush visible across his cheeks. That last thought gave him a little shock. He might like Mimi very much, but he didn't know if it was love. Love was the word that Sora used, love was the thing she thought, keyword thought, she had towards Matt. But Matt knew better, and he knew that a simple crush like Sora's wouldn't be love. Sora couldn't love him as long as there was Tai around. Nope. Nada. Never would Sora ever love him.

But if Sora didn't love him, then did Mimi? And did he to Mimi? Matt looked up at the stars and pondered, eyebrows furrowed in thought. If he didn't love Mimi, he didn't know what it was that he felt towards her. Love was probably the only thing that made him kiss her like he just did now. Probably. There was a small chance that it might've been comfort and help for her to get over Joe. (though kissing her probably wouldn't have helped her) Matt just didn't know.

So, decided that he didn't want to ponder anymore, he closed his eyes and slept.

Okay, this is very important. All these previous chapters, I wrote a long time ago, and I was just posting them up here. But now I have to write the next chapter, so it'll probably take a while.
