Chapter 10: The Final Battle

‘…’ Thinking
I was watching InuYasha and Vegeta spar, when Kagome called everyone over. “Hey guys, after that demon we killed yesterday we now have all the jewel shards, except for Koga's and Naraku’s.” We all knew what this meant, and we were all ready to kill the bastard once and for all. We sent Shippo to Kaede’s hut to keep him safe, and we quickly set out for Kouga’s den. We made it there and after a few ‘sits’ and Koga now learning what it felt like to be ‘sat’, Kagome finally had Koga’s jewel shards. We then set off for the battle that would change our lives forever.
We hadn’t been waiting in the clearing for very long, but Miroku looked really nervous about something. Then suddenly, he confessed his love for Sango and asked if she would marry him, if they were still alive at the end. Me and Kagome had identical huge smiles on our faces as we awaited Sango’s answer. After she got over the shock, she had a huge smile on her face. She threw her arms around his neck yelling, “Yes!” over and over again. Miroku was obviously really happy because he also had a huge smile on his face. He wrapped his arms around her waist, and then . . . .SLAP! “Baka Houshi! First you ask me to marry you, then you grope me! And you better not even think about doing that to anyone else either!” she yelled her face red with anger, causing all of the demons and Saiyins in the clearing to cover their ears. “Of course not, Sango!” Miroku said fearful of her wrath. I then heard him say something under his breath about doing it later, in private. I noticed that only Vegeta and me had seemed to hear him though. Too bad he never got a chance. It was then that the reinforcements arrived. Koga and his wolves were the first to arrive. Then, to the shock of everyone, Sesshomaru came into the large clearing. After a few minutes Naraku arrived and the battle got underway.The first to fall was Sango after Naraku pulled Kohaku’s shard out and killed him for his own selfish reasons. Then, Miroku died protecting her body, and Kilala died protecting theirs. It was around an hour later, when Kagome was in the back. Naraku’s tentacles suddenly shot out; Koga, InuYasha, and Sesshomaru were the only ones able to dodge them. “Noooooooooooooo!” Kagome yelled dropping to her knees beside InuYasha’s body. The only reason InuYasha was dying, was because after he dodged the one that tried to kill him he jumped in front of Kagome. I felt like my soul was torn because most of my friends had died, but I kept fighting. Koga looked kind of happy because InuYasha was dying, but after he saw Kagome’s face he finally realized that she didn’t want to be his woman. (the idiot.) Me and Vegeta started fighting Naraku to give time to Kagome. “InuYasha.” I heard her whisper. The only thing I heard him say before he died was, “Ai Shiteru, my Kagome.”
I could tell that Kagome was really pissed off now. Vegeta and I watched, as Kagome’s power level grew even above our own. Then, Kagome pulled out her last arrow, notched it, and let it fly. And with a burst of pink miko energy, Naraku was no more. There were dead bodies and blood everywhere making the once beautiful clearing a wasteland. I couldn’t even smell Vegeta’s scent; and he was right next to me! I almost couldn’t bear to look at the clearing and all the dead bodies. Kagome walked over to the other half of the jewel and fused it with the rest. She then fell to her knees, and I caught her before she fell completely. She was losing way too much energy. She was dying, and I was devastated.
The last things I heard her say, were that dark miko’s were banned, forbidden, hated, and shunned by everyone. This made my eyes water. I was thinking about what Vegeta would say when he found out. (No, Vegeta did not hear what Kagome had said) She then said one last thing, “Take care of Shippo for me.” She smiled a sad smile, and then she closed her eyes and went limp in my arms. I started crying, and Vegeta came over to me to comfort me. Though nothing would, not for a very long time.
