~The Past~

Part III

Vegeta and Katriana arrived in front of a door, a few minutes later. He opened it and she realized that it was Vegeta's room. He shoved her in there and locked the door behind him and stormed off to another location of the base. Katriana cocked her eyebrows. She was a little scared and a little confused. She'd thought that he would have been happy for her. Katriana shrugged and lay down on his bed. Soon, sleep took her over without her noticing and she slept.

Vegeta stormed into the hallways, walking at a fast pace towards the pod center. He slipped into a pod and headed towards Frieza's spaceship. He was furious! No, he was more than furious. He had tried protecting her all these years, so that she wouldn't learn what they truly did. Vegeta had only one plan in mind. Try and change Frieza's mind about all of this. He knew Frieza was way too strong for him to beat, so the only thing he could do was try and change his mind.

He stormed into the room Katriana was in earlier before meeting him, Nappa, and Hannah. Frieza, Zarbon, and Dodoria turned around and stared at the prince, all were wondering what he was so angry about now.

"What do you want, Vegeta!?" demanded Dodoria.

"How dare you come in here without being called upon!" added Zarbon.

Frieza narrowed his eyes and said to the prince, "What is it that you want, Vegeta?"

Vegeta bowed with respect, even though he had none towards the alien, and replied in a hoarse voice, "Nappa, Hannah, and I have just come from our mission from Papillon."

"Is that what you just came in barging in for!!?" shouted Zarbon.

"Iie," the young saiyan prince said rudely, "I have also come to speak with the lord about Katriana."

Zarbon was about to reply, but Frieza cut him off. He asked suspiciously, "Katriana?"

"Yes. I have heard when I arrived from Papillon that she has been granted to go on a mission," said Vegeta. "I do not want to argue with your decisions, but I feel that she is not ready. Not yet."

"And why is that, Prince Vegeta?" asked Frieza.

"I…believe that she cannot handle the situation of taking over planets for you m'lord."

"Why would she have trouble doing that for me? Surely, she knows what to do. What every other saiyans are doing."

"I'm…I'm afraid not…as you know, I am very protective of her and have not yet told her the truth. I do not think she can handle the emotion that comes with this job."

"I see," said Frieza. He seemed to be thinking for a while before replying. "…She may not be ready now, Prince Vegeta, but she must be ready! This is her test and if she cannot handle it, then I guess she isn't the ultimate fighter as I thought she would be back when I took her away from her family." Vegeta seemed shock. He never heard about this before. But he continued to listen. "Vegeta, if she does not pass this, I'm afraid I will have to permanently rid of her." Vegeta gasped, while Frieza and his baka henchmen laughed.

Vegeta was quiet for a couple of minutes before saying, "I…I understand, Lord Frieza. I will get her ready for this." He bowed.

Before he could leave, Frieza said, "And please tell Katriana the mission will be tomorrow, Vegeta." He nodded and left.

After he left, Zarbon said, "Do you not think that the prince of Vegeta will be a trouble to your plans, Master Frieza?"

"Hai, I do indeed, Zarbon," replied Frieza, "He will be trouble. But as long as he is not too much trouble, he cannot interfere. We must keep those two apart without getting them suspicious. Work on that Dodoria, Zarbon."

"Hai, m'lord." They bowed and exited the room, leaving Frieza alone to think.

Vegeta entered his room to find Katriana sleeping peacefully on his bed. He sighed. He had almost forgotten about her. He grabbed a chair and placed it next to the bed and sat down. Vegeta closed his eyes and started thinking. He had to tell her soon and he knew it. But he loved her so much; he didn't want to hurt her. 'Love?' he thought 'Where did that come from? She's my best friend. I can't love her. It was probably in my head because she put it in there.' He shook his head, trying to shake it off. The prince looked at the young girl. 'She sure looks beautiful sleeping like that' he thought and shook his head once again 'What am I thinking!? Damn!'

This was the time that Katriana decided to stir from her sleep and open her eyes. She saw Vegeta and smiled nervously. Katriana sat up and faced him.

"What's wrong? You seemed kind of mad earlier," she asked.

"It's nothing," he replied, looking at her.

"Liar," she said after a while.

"What did I tell you!?" he nearly shouted. "Don't-"

"You know Vegeta-chan, I don't have to get inside your head to know you are lying." He frowned. "I know you too well. Now stop being a baby and tell me what's wrong."

He growled. He hated the fact that she knew him so well. Ever since he met her, he had tried not opening up to her, but somehow, he always found himself telling her things he would never tell Nappa or anyone else. (Uni: I guess that'll include King Vegeta, too.) She, on the other hand, didn't open up as much and was better at this then he was. He wanted to know how she thought, but he would never succeed.

"There's nothing wrong," he insisted. She stared at him. "Go back to sleep," he simply said. "Tomorrow you have to go on the mission. You have to be fully rested."

"It's tomorrow?" she asked. "How do you know that?"

"…Frieza told me," he replied. "I went to see him earlier about your mission."

"Doshite?"

"Because…I don't think you're ready."

"What!? Vegeta, you know I've wanted to go all my life! Why in the world would you do that! It doesn't make sense!" she shouted.

"I know it doesn't to you. But to others that have gone on these missions, they understand and it does make sense," he explained. "I don't want you to go because it's dangerous."

"But…what's so dangerous about going on those planets?" she asked.

He sighed and shook his head. "I'll tell you later. Go back to sleep."

She nodded knowing he wouldn't tell her more, "Fine, then." She stood up and started walking towards the door.

"Where are you going?" he asked, looking back at her.

"I'm going to my room to sleep, duh!" she exclaimed as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

He grabbed her hand, sitting from his chair, and pulled her back towards him. Puzzled, she let him guide towards him. Her heart, to her surprise, began to beat quickly. Katriana couldn't understand the feeling she was feeling that second. He pushed her gently back onto his own bed and made her lie down.

"Go back to sleep, you'll need all the sleep you need for tomorrow," he finally told her.

"But what about you?" she asked.

He shrugged and replied, "I'll manage." She was about to protest, but Vegeta hushed her. "Just go to sleep." Thinking there was no point in arguing any longer, took one last look at the prince of Vegeta and closed her eyes and went to sleep as told. Vegeta looked at her for a while before grabbing himself a blanket and pillow and he slept on the couch that was in the same room. (Uni: Do they even have couches!?)

Katriana opened her eyes and found Vegeta on the couch sleeping peacefully. She walked over to him and nudged him a little. He moved a little but didn't wake up. She looked outside and saw that the sun was up. She would have to get going soon. But, Katriana didn't want to go without saying good-bye to Vegeta.

She didn't even know if she was going to go alone. Frieza never said as far as she knew. 'Maybe Vegeta-chan knows. He did talk to him yesterday after all' she thought. Katriana nudged him again and what surprised her is that he grabbed her arm, but wasn't even awake. He pulled her in, but she tried to resist, which only made him pull harder.

"Vegeta-chan! Let go!" she cried. He pulled even harder. "Vegeta! Are you even awake!" Vegeta yanked her towards him. Katriana fell on him and he finally woke up.

"What are you doing, Katie?" he asked.

"What are you talking about, Veg-head!" she exclaimed, "You have a hold of my arm! I was trying to wake you up and you grabbed a hold of me!"

"I did!?" he asked clearly confused.

She held her arm up as proof. Vegeta did have a hold of her arm. Katriana pushed herself off him. In her mind, she was kind of disappointed that she wasn't on him anymore. She didn't know what these feeling were, but to her opinion, these feelings had all started since last year. She had liked the way he breathed down on her. Katriana shook her head, shaking the feeling off like she had so many times months after months.

Vegeta let her go, puzzled. He wondered how that had happened. He couldn't help, but feel disappointed when letting her go.

"What time is it?" he asked, hoarsely.

She shrugged. "I just woke up myself. I think it's morning. When am I supposed to go on that mission thing?"

"I don't think he said," Vegeta said, thinking, "Let's just go, just in case. Hold on and let me change." He was in his shorts. He stood up and went to the closet and grabbed a uniform. Katriana blushed and turned around. Vegeta grabbed her, after clothing himself, and pushed both of them out the door. They walked towards the lunchroom to get breakfast.

"Ew…what are you eating?" asked Katriana, seeing what Vegeta had picked.

He shrugged and ate the brown stuff. "You know they serve this stuff all the time. Why do you keep asking."

She shrugged. "I'd like to know what it really is one day. You know, before I go on a mission."

"Isn't that today?"

"Yeah," she shrugged. "I'd like to know. Don't you?"

He shrugged. (Uni: Everyone is shrugging!) "I guess." He continued eating and soon, he had gobbled up his mountain plate of food.

Saiyans ate a lot, and she knew it since she herself was a saiyan. But, she didn't eat a lot compare to Vegeta, Nappa, Hannah, and the others. She only ate a little, and sometimes it made her wonder if she was a saiyan at all. When they were both done, they put up their tray and started walking around. They went outside to their tree and sat under it.

"I can't wait until we get out there," she said.

"It's not that great," the prince muttered.

She scowled. "You have no appreciation for anything!" He shrugged and looked ahead. "I guess they'll call us when we have to go ne?" He shrugged again. "You shrug a lot don't you?"

He shrugged again. She sweatdropped and shook her head. Katriana closed her eyes and relaxed as a breeze blew by. A few minutes later, she opened her eyes only to find Vegeta's face very close to hers. She gasped and Vegeta blushed for this first time. (**laughs** he blushed!! **runs around, jumping**) He stood up and walked a couple feet away from her.

'What in heck was I going to do!?' Vegeta thought. He knew what he was going to do. He was going to kiss her and then run away. He wanted to so bad, but couldn't bring himself to it. He didn't want to ruin their friendship.

'What was he going to do?' Katriana asked herself. 'I could have sworn he was going to kiss me.' She looked at him closely. 'Naw, that couldn't be possible. Could it?'

'Shimatta! What the heck was I thinking!' Vegeta screamed at himself mentally. 'she probably doesn't like me this way anyways'

"Vegeta-chan?" Katriana came up behind him and touched his shoulder, concerned. He jumped when her hand made contact with his shoulder. "Are you okay?"

"H-Hai," he replied, rather shakily.

She now stood before him, peering at his face. "Are you lying?" she asked, curiously.

"Iie!" She stepped closer to him. Katriana was so close she could feel his breath on her face. She didn't feel comfortable, but in another way, she didn't want to move. Vegeta on the other hand wanted to just hug her and never let her go.

"Katriana!!" barked Zarbon, who appeared out of nowhere. Katriana scowled mentally. "It is time." He said, ignoring Vegeta, who was growling.

"Ok," she said. She stepped away from the prince of saiyans and walked towards Zarbon. "Where am I going?" Katriana asked.

"I believe you're going to the planet called Mau," he replied as they left Vegeta alone to stare after them. Katriana turned around and started to walk backwards and waved at Vegeta. She turned around again, her back now towards him.

"Mau you say? I've never heard of it," she said.

"Not a lot of people has heard of this planet. Mau's people have a technique that we would like to learn. But they have been fighting us, so that we wouldn't learn it. So you're mission will be to destroy the planet," he said. They arrived at the pod center and they walked towards a space pod.

"Ok, so I have to des-NANI!" she shrieked.

"Destroy the planet Mau," Zarbon said firmly.

"I am not going to do that! Even if I would, I can't do it alone," she said, shaking her head. "No one said I had to do that!"

The green man (Uni: ^_^ dude!) smirked. "Did the prince not say anything?"

"Vegeta…"

"Get in girl! And if you don't do as Master Frieza says, you'll be destroyed!" He pushed her into the pod and she fell in. "Get that pod going!" he barked at a saiyan, that was working at the pod controllers. He nodded and pressed a few buttons.

"Get me out!! Let me out!!" shrieked Katriana on the inside of the pod. Zarbon smirked.

"If you want to see Vegeta-chan, you better come back alive, because I assure you that they will try and kill you," he said and walked off as the pod flew into space.

Katriana started to cry and as soon as she reached space, the computer engaged sleeping gas. Slowly, the girl's eyes began to drop and she went to sleep.

Vegeta went to the pod center and went to Frieza's spaceship. He walked angrily towards Frieza's chambers and went inside. He immediately dropped to his knees.

"Lord Frieza, you must send me to wherever you have sent Katriana!" he pleaded.

"Why would I do such a thing?" he asked.

Vegeta looked at the floor and responded, "I didn't tell her. I know she can't handle it."

"Where you not suppose to tell her, Prince Vegeta!" shouted Frieza, "I will be very mad if I lose one of my best warriors!"

"I…just couldn't."

Zarbon decided to enter at that moment. When he saw Vegeta he smirked and said to Frieza, "M'lord. Katriana was not ready. As soon as she heard that she had to annihilate Mau, she refused." Frieza frowned. "But do not worry, sir. If she wants to survive, she's going to have to defend herself." Frieza snickered.

"What did you do to her!?" Vegeta slammed Zarbon to the wall. Zarbon grabbed his hand and flung him across the room.

"Don't touch the suit," he said. Vegeta got up and growled. He exited the room, having made a plan in his brain. "What do you think he will do, Master Frieza?" he asked.

"He may go after her," said Frieza.

"Should I stop him?"

"No. Let him be. I want to see what happen," he cackled.

"Yes, sir."

'I have to go help her!' Vegeta shouted angrily in his head. He stomped into the pod center and went to grab a pod. He went inside and set a course to Mau. The pod blasted into space and the auto-sleep was engaged.

On the planet Mau, a pod landed powerfully on the planet's land leaving a huge crater. The door to the pod opened and Katriana stumbled out of it. She stumbled out of the crater and looked around to see a couple of craters like the one she just made. Katriana stood up and started walking around. Soon she came upon a city. She gasped. She saw that the city was half destroyed and people in uniform like hers destroying them.

'What are they doing!?' she shrieked inside her head. 'Why are they killing these people!'

~Flashback~

"Not a lot of people has heard of this planet. Mau's people have a technique that we would like to learn. But they have been fighting us, so that we wouldn't learn it. So you're mission will be to destroy the planet," he said.

"Ok, so I have to des-NANI!" she shrieked.

"Destroy the planet Mau," Zarbon said firmly.

"I am not going to do that! Even if I would, I can't do it alone," she said, shaking her head. "No one said I had to do that!"

End Flashback~

"Their saiyans just like me," she whispered to herself. She hung her and shook her head.

"Katriana!!" a man's voice said. She looked up and saw her brother, Raditz. "What the hell are you doing here!?"

"Where's otosan?" she asked.

He finally reached her and answered, "At Kanassa. Why? And what are you doing here?"

"The question is…what are you doing!? Why are you hurting these people?" she shrieked.

He looked at her with a questioning look and had a guilty look on his face. "Frieza ordered us to. We've been doing this for years!"

"NANI!? Raditz! That's cruel! I don't care if Frieza told you to do it!" she yelled. Then, she burst in tears. "You don't see me killing them even though he told me to."

"What are you talking about?"

"Why do you think I'm here? He sent me here to help you guys and kill these people. Zarbon said that if I don't do it, they'll kill me," she sobbed. Raditz hugged his sister and tried to comfort her, but she didn't seem to calm down.

"I'm so sorry, Katie. But Frieza threatened both Bardock and me. We had to do it," he explained.

"Nani?"

"He was going to kill you if we didn't do as he said. You know we both care for you, especially since okasan died. We both promised her that we would protect you. Now do you understand?" he asked. She nodded her head slightly.

"But it's still horrible. Since Frieza ordered me to do that, does that mean I have to? He said he would kill me if I didn't," she said.

"That's your choice. He doesn't have to know." Katriana looked at her feet.

She was silent for a couple of minutes until she finally spoke up. "I'll go along with you if you're going back."

"No way," he said, "You're staying right here until this is all over."

"Raditz!" she whined.

"Stay! I have to go finish this," he ordered. He flew back at top speed towards the city.

After he was out of sight, she started to walk towards the city. She knew how to fly, but she didn't want Raditz to notice her ki flying towards the city. This way, she would reach there after the destruction and he wouldn't notice her until he checked for her on his radar. A little later, she began to get really tired, but she noticed she was only a few meters away from the city now. She broke into a run and almost fainted when she saw the disaster it was in.

"I'm so sorry," she said to no one in particular.

"There's one!!" one of Mau's people shouted. They had tails behind them, but they were the color of their hair. It wasn't bushy like a monkey, like Katriana's and the other saiyans. (Uni: She has hers wrapped around her btw…almost forgot about those!) Instead, they were like a cat. (Uni: imagine Diana's tail in sailor moon. They had tail, right?) Katriana's head whipped towards them and her eyes grew big. They had spears and arrows, while she had nothing.

They began to advance on her and she stepped back in fear. She knew how to fight, but the only people she would spar against would be Frieza, who would go easy on her, and Vegeta. Sometimes it was Hannah and Nappa, but they were the only ones she would fight against. She never killed anyone and she didn't want to start now.

"What's wrong, saiyan? Afraid!" shouted one of the men.

She nodded her head, afraid that if she replied, she would start to cry or something. Katriana started to back up as they advanced on her. Then, her saiyan hearing picked up something.

'Okasan! Otosan! Where are you!?'

'Hey, kid!' he laughed evilly, 'Bam, bam, you're dead.'

Katriana gasped and flew towards the kid as fast as she could go, which was pretty fast. She stretched her arms as far as she could so that maybe, just maybe, she would be able to reach the child in time. Katriana shot a ki blast behind her to boost her speed, which it did, and grabbed the kid out of harms way. They fell to the ground, but she had thrown her arms protectively around the boy.

"Are you okay?" she asked, in a kind voice. She stroked his cheek and the boy nodded just slightly.

"Do you know where my okasan and otosan are?" he asked. She shook her head sadly and the boy started to cry. Katriana took the boy into her arms and hugged him, trying to make him feel better.

"Brat! How dare you try and stop us!" shouted the man in the saiyan suit like hers. He took a good look at the girl who had saved the boy and gasped. "Katriana! What the hell…"

"Why were you trying to kill this boy? He's only a kid," she whispered. But thanks to their acute saiyan hearing, they heard every word.

"We are to destroy this planet," another man replied.

"I don't care," she said, angrily, "I won't let you hurt him!!" She closed her eyes and concentrated.

"And what are you going to do?" the man asked. "Even with all the training you do with Frieza and the prince, I bet your still weak!" Then, he felt something tug at his brain. He began to scream in pain and stopped when Katriana opened her eyes. He dropped to the ground unconscious.

"What the…What did you do to him!" shouted the first man.

"I did nothing," she fibbed. "I was standing right here."

"You liar!" He threw a powerful ki blast at her and she grabbed it as if it were a baseball. She threw it in the air as easily as she had caught it. The group of warriors gasped and ran away. She smiled smugly.

The young girl heard a cough and looked behind her. The boy was coughing up blood. She walked over to him and felt his head. He was burning up! 'He must have internal injuries' she said to herself 'Kami, I hope he doesn't die.'

"Lie down," she told the boy. He did as he was told and she placed her hands into his. She knew she would become a tad weak, enough for the others to hurt her, even kill her, but she didn't want to see this boy die. Katriana began to transfer some energy to him, so that he would have enough to live and her energy would help him heal his internal wounds. After she was sure he had enough energy, she stopped the transfer and laid down to rest. The boy got up and looked at her with a smile.

"Thanks, lady. Whatever you did, I feel a lot better!" he exclaimed. She smiled back. Sure she was tired, but in her mind, making the boy happy was worth getting tired for.

"You welcome," she replied, and sat up, "Listen, do me a favor. Get out of this city, and try not to get caught, okay? There's a space pod and I want you to climb into it. Wait for me there okay?"

He nodded and turned to run out of the city as told, but before he could get far enough, a ki blast killed him instantaneously. Katriana cried in disbelief. Her head whipped around and she saw the guys that she had been fighting earlier and…Adon. He had a huge crush on her, but when he told her that and she refused him, he was very angry with her. Adon became her worst enemy and would always try and beat her up when they spared. But, with the intense training she had gone through with both Frieza and Vegeta, he wasn't close enough to beat her to a pulp. But now, she almost had no energy left because she had given the boy he had just killed more than 2/3 of her energy. She was really tired and just wanted to sleep.

But, not now. She wanted to cry for the boy she tried to save. He was dead now. 'I should have tried harder!' she scolded to herself, fighting back tears. 'I should have told him to wait until I was sure the coast was clear!'

"Well, well, well," Adon said, "Isn't it the prince of saiyan's best friend, Katriana." She looked at the ground. "What are you doing here, beautiful?" he asked, smirking.

"What do you think I'm doing here?" she asked coldly. Without any warning, Adon had picked her up and thrown her against the wall. Then, he appeared in front of her. Adon had pinned her to the wall in an instant.

"Leave us!" he ordered to his men, "She isn't strong enough to hurt me a bit." The group of men muttered and did as they were told. They continued to destroy the buildings and the people they saw. He turned back to Katriana who was whimpering in fright. "What are you afraid of?" he asked, smirking. "I'm not going to hurt you. See, not I finally have you to myself without that stupid prince around." She turned his head away from him. He lifted her head back up with a finger so that she would face him. "You're all mine. Then, I'll make you mine." Adon started to make a trail of kisses down her neck. She closed her eyes and tried to scramble his mind, but for some reason, she couldn't seem to do it. But, what she did do, was get inside his mind, and heard what he was thinking.

'I'll make her mine. Even if I have to do it right here!' he thought and continued to kiss her neck and was starting down to her chest, taking the armor off her, leaving her in her suit. 'Then, she'll be stuck with me no matter how she hates it!' he said to himself evilly.

Summary:

Vegeta and Katriana reveals their growing feelings towards each other, but soon are interrupted by a group of people. A secret comes out in the open and Frieza arrives to see how Katriana is going on her mission. Katriana must escape with the help of her friend and family to find her long lost and unknown family member. (I suck at romance stories…)
