Chapter 3

When she reached the ship dock she immediately knew which carrier was hers as there was a line of men with packs waiting to board. She joined the line and glanced around at the other men. She was for sure the smallest person there and she was worried that she was the only pure human. Since the passing of the mating law there were more and more half and quarter saiyans coming out of hiding.

As she approached the check in she realized that never in her life had she been so afraid.

“Disk please.” The saiyan took her data disk and placed it in his hand held computer he read the information and she saw his eyes bug out. “Hercule Satan is your father!?” He asked.

“Yes.” She said defensively.

The saiyan laughed and smirked evilly at her. “I seriously hope you are nothing like your old man.”

Videl's temper flared and she was temped to shout, `What's that supposed to mean?', but she was not interested in fighting a second class saiyan soldier. She just frowned at him.

“Name?” He asked.

“Dameon.” She lied a stern look crossing her face.

“Well, Dameon Satan, welcome to the skirmishers.” He said rather loudly as everyone around them stared at her. She walked onto the ship with her head downcast wondering why they all had such an issue with her father.

After all the men had boarded just before take off Videl felt like a fish out of water and cow packed in with the rest of the smelly herd. As they took off Videl almost fell over from the lift off. A big man off too her right laughed. “You've never been to space have you kid?” He asked.

She shook her head `no' and he laughed again. “Well you should get your space legs pretty quick if the commander has anything to say or do about it.”

“The commander?” She asked.

Meanwhile….
The commander of said ship was in the communications room standing before a large screen staring at the transmission of his father, Head General of the royal army Kakarott.

“This mission will be good for you son. Think of it like training.” The general said cheerily.

“But Father I have completed your training and master Piccolo's. Why can't I have a real commission?” Gohan pleaded.

“The King says you need experience to develop your skill before you can become a general and frankly I agree with him.”

Gohan stared with his jaw clenched at his father. He made no response.

“Gohan, if you can make it as a skirmish commander you will be a great general. That is all I have to say. Your mother and brother send their greetings. Make us proud Commander.” Kakarott smiled and nodded his head before the picture cut out. Gohan sighed and looked at the floor. “I will father. I will.”

With that he went out into the bay area to meet his troops.

“Commander on deck!” Immediately everyone in the bay lined up and stood tall. Videl stared straight ahead, but found her eyes wandering to the commander. When she saw him her mouth almost fell open. He was the stranger from the bar!

Of what she had just heard, he was known as Commander Gohan. He was the eldest son of the Head General himself. He was one of the first three super saiyans to arise in thousands of years. He was the first to prove to the King that half lings could go super. He was rumored to be uber powerful and intelligent, but he was a skirmish commander because he was so young.

He was handsome and tall with short spiky hair and a loose bang here and there. He was very muscular toned and sleek, but not big. His eyes were the same dark intensity she remembered.

A panic ran through her veins that he might recognize her from the bar. He walked along the line scrutinizing the new soldiers as he went. He would occasionally stop and ask questions of one man or another. As he neared her she visibly stiffened. To her utter horror he stopped and stared at her.

“Your name is Dameon Satan correct?” He asked as he had been briefed on all of them and with his genius mind he knew them all already.

“Yes sir.” She said deepening her voice as convincingly as she could.

“I won't stand for cowards Dameon. Are you a coward?” He asked coolly.

“No sir.” She said a little quieter.

“Good. You are the only pure blooded human on this ship.” He said confirming her fears. “And with your father's bad reputation I would expect that you would want to do better am I right?”

“My father's reputation…sir?” She asked a little nervously. Gohan must have been the same age as her, but he demanded the respect of someone far older. He lifted a eyebrow and looked pointedly at her.

He took a breath and said, “Your father was a coward Dameon. In one of his skirmishes he didn't do his job. He hid while the rest of his group did their job! More than half died. So you see Dameon you can understand why I am so skeptical of you.”

Videl was hit hard by what he had said. She never knew her father was a phony, a coward. An anger and hurt welled up inside her and she went cold and stared hard at the commander. “I am no coward sir.”

“Good.”

He turned away from her to address the whole unit. “You men are here to do your part for the kingdom of Vegeta-sei and it is my job to make you battle worthy. From now on the rest of this unit and myself are your only family. Everyone pair up with someone of similar size. Those who weight train pick someone who does not.”

Soon all were paired up accept Videl. Gohan smirked at her. “I guess that makes you my partner.” He said. Videl felt a chill of fear run down her spine at his words. “Those of you who don't weight train will now wear half the amount of weight your partner does till you can do everything they can do. Lucky for you Dameon I only wear two hundred and fifty pounds of weight daily.”

Videl bit her lip and mentally swore. `One hundred and twenty five pounds extra! Do what he does! I am going to die.' She thought nervously as they handed out the weighted uniforms.
