"Gohan... thanks for listening. I guess I really needed to talk it out."

"N...no prob dad..."

I hung up. It felt good to get that off my chest. But Gohan didn't have all the answers. I would have to do this on my own, the only way I knew how. I put two fingers to my forehead and vanished.

Part 7

I wait by the door as Buruma descends the stair case in a beautiful, flowing white dress. A set of pearl earrings and matching necklace adorning her long, graceful neck. Glowing and smiling like an angel, I hold the door open as she glides by. She starts the car and I yell back towards a stunned Trunks standing, staring, and gaping at the top of the stairs.

"Don't wait up!!"

The decor of the restaurant is mysterious, dark and beautiful. The low music wafting overhead, the hushed murmurs of the other restaurant patrons, the crushed velvet of the seat cushions, and the muted light of the candles, all set the warm, relaxed atmosphere. Even through the dark of the restaurant, Buruma shines radiantly. Her white dress a perfect contrast to the blood red cushions behind her.

We eat our meal quickly, and she speaks of her latest inventions and the surprisingly funny stories around each of them. Our conversation is casual and light, though she does most of the talking as I listen. Something I wouldn't normally do for very long.

"Oh and dad managed to blow up the whole thing! He came out of the room with half his hair burnt off. Haha..! I was a little worried at first. I thought maybe he was hurt, but when he looked in a mirror and laughed at his reflection, I laughed too!" She says chuckling and laughing between breaths, showing off her perfect teeth. I'd almost forgotten how beautiful she is. She sips her wine, and begins a new story.

For once in a long time, I feel at ease. This is nice. This is right. I've decided to forget... him... and be more attentive to my wife. Not just in bed, but in all things. She's more to me than just a good lay, more than release, more than an escape, and she deserves more than what I've been giving her. Now she will get it.

To hell with him

She smiles warmly at me from the other end of the table and slides a little closer. She picks up her glass of champagne and I my glass of sparkling cider, since I do not drink. She tips it towards me for a toast.

"To us."

"To us..."

Just as I tip the glass towards my lips, I hear an odd but familiar buzzing behind me. It's strange that I would be able to hear it, even over all the other sounds in the restaurant. Whatever it is, it must be pretty close. I scrunch my eyebrows. Suddenly anxious, I gulp down my cider. I pour another glass full. As I move to take another sip, I spot the reflection of someone standing behind me in my glass. Someone...

Instantly I feel a flush of arousal and pang of fear in the pit of my stomach. What a strange and dangerous combination.

Someone's behind me.

It could have been anyone. ANYone.

Why..? Why did it have to be him? WHY?! Now of all times...

I was just starting to set things right again...

"Bejiita..."

I felt a shudder race up my spine after hearing that voice again. One I'd only heard in my dreams for months. I drop my drink. The fragile glass shattering on the glossy, black floor, drawing the attention of some people near by.

"Eh? Gokuu?" Buruma's light voice calls out.

I stand up abruptly, sneering. It's so forced. The moment I saw his face everything I'd sought to rid myself of crept back.

Just let him go...

It was useless.

"What are you doing here!? Leave!" I say angrily, while keeping my voice down. Trying in vain not to make a scene.

Why have you come here? After all this time...

"Bejiita... I..."

"Didn't you hear me?! You're not welcome here. Your interrupting us, now go!!"

Don't go...

I yell trying to hide my surprise, longing, and fear behind a mask of hostility.

"I just..." he says softly, closing the small gap between us.

My eyes widen.

N...NO...don't come any closer..!

I was suddenly thankful for the low lighting. No one could see my erection.

I start to back away but run into my chair.

"Gokuu what on earth do you want? We're in the middle of a meal. Bejiita can't spar right now..!" she says perplexed at his odd behavior. He ignores her completely and corners me against my chair. I can't think of anything else I can say to get him to leave me alone. I'm... actually petrified.

What am I so afraid of?

My heart hammers in my chest, and I shake like a leaf as he wraps his arms around my waist and pulls me to him.

NO! Not in front of her!! Not here! Not now!!

"K...kaka...rotto... sto-- imph!!" He silenced me with his tongue. For a moment my whole body tensed up. Then my strength left me just as quickly as it came. Everything around me seemed to fade away. The music, the candles, the black tiled floor, and crushed velvet, the champagne.

Even Buruma.

For a moment in time all I could hear was the frantic beating of his heart. All I could feel was his hot tongue gliding against mine. All I could see or taste was him. All I cared about was him. All I really wanted was for him to never stop kissing me.

My wide eyes drift shut. I let out the tiniest of moans into his mouth. For the length of a few heartbeats, there was no one in the world but us.

He pulled away all too soon, breaking the spell. He smiled down at me.

"I love you...Bejiita..."

A fist sailed into his jaw. There was that sickening sound of flesh hitting something hard for an instant just before he staggered back a few steps, rubbing his jaw.

"Y...you asshole! Never do that again...!" I shook with rage and desire, feigning disgust while licking his taste from my lips.

Isn't this what I wanted?

"Bejiita... "he says in a pleading tone.

I grab him by the front of his shirt. Another fist raised, ready and waiting.

"I love you..." he whispers again."I'm sorry I didn't say it earlier..."

My fist shook. But I couldn't will it to move. How could I? I'd been dying to hear those words. I let go of his shirt and looked down at the tiled floor.

"Kakarotto... I..."

"I know..."

He looks past me, at Buruma sadly, puts two fingers to his forehead and he's gone. Leaving as quickly and quietly as he came.

Reality comes crashing back full force. I don't dare look at Buruma now. I lean on my chair with my back towards her, still staring at the floor as if fascinated by it. Neither of us says anything. She sat there the entire time. She saw everything.

Again I did not meet her eyes as I heard her throw a few hundred Zeni on the table and walk out of the restaurant.

She drove home alone.
