Part 9 Bulma is clued in
Meanwhile, back in Bulma's lab at Capsule Corp headquarters….
Bulma dropped her notebook and knocked over her coffee mug as Goku materialized in her lab.
"Goku, what have I told you about using that instant transmission in the house," she yelled as she grabbed blueprints for the newest CC air car out of the path of the caffeinated river flooding across her desk. "And where are Vegeta and the boys?"
Goku looked at Bulma, wondering what he should say. He knew he'd have to say something soon; she was getting that look on her face that she got just before she went ballistic.
"There have been a few new….developments," he said finally. Boy was that the understatement of the year he thought.
"Vegeta thought it would be smart to extend the camping trip for a couple of days," he continued.
Bulma looked puzzled. Abruptly she noticed Goku was holding something in his hand. "What's that in your hand, Goku?" she asked casually.
He didn't even blink. "It's a note for you from Vegeta," he replied.
"I assume it will explain everything," she said, a hint of sarcasm in her voice.
"Probably," replied Goku. "But he wanted me to tell you first, before I gave you the note." He paused, wondering how to continue. Bulma grew impatient.
"Well," she said, pointedly. "Are you going to tell me, or aren't you? Do I have to guess?"
"No, that is…uh…" Goku rubbed the back of his head in the classic embarrassed Son way. He mumbled something quickly, turning his head away from Bulma's penetrating glare.
"I didn't quite catch that, Goku…you might try actually speaking up."
Goku took a deep breath. "Alltheboystailsgrewbackthismorning," he mumbled in one breath.
Bulma blinked. And blinked again.
"Could you repeat that….more slowly," she asked, her eyes glazing over as she sat down hard in her chair.
"The boys woke up with their tails regenerated this morning. All three of them," Goku said. He handed her the note from Vegeta. "This should explain it better, though I don't think Vegeta as any idea why they all of a sudden grew back either."
Bulma looked at Goku, not really seeing him. "Trunks' tail too?" she asked a little dazedly.
"Yep," grinned Goku. "A real handsome tail too, same color as his hair, maybe a little more silver though."
"Oh really," said Bulma faintly.
Goku motioned to the letter she still held. "Aren't you going to read it," he asked.
"What? Oh…yes….Vegeta's letter." Bulma gave a start, as she came back to herself. Tails, she mused as she unfolded the note. Get a grip Bulma, they are half Saiyjin. Tails aren't the end of the world.
Vegeta's note like him was direct and to the point. He explained that while he had no idea what had caused the spontaneous regeneration of the three children's tails, he was delighted with it, and so were the boys. That the younger two were having difficulty re-learning to walk with their new found limbs, but progress was being made. That Kakkarott had successfully learned to control the Oozaruu transformation and that he would begin teaching the boys soon. Then she reached the part about Goku and Chichi. Bulma's face paled when she read about Chichi's reaction to Goku's tail, and Goku's reaction to her threat. For the first time she began to realize how important to a Saiyjin their tail really is. She began to question whether it had been right to have Trunks' tail removed at birth and to encourage Chichi to do the same with Goten. Bulma knew how much Goku loved Chichi. For him to accept banishment from the marital bed rather than have his tail removed…..
She finished reading the note, signed simply Vegeta, and looked up at the Saiyjin she had known since childhood.
"Vegeta says he wants me to talk to Chichi first," she said quietly. "Is that ok with you, Goku?"
"Yes," he replied. "Maybe if Chichi hears about it from someone else she will actually give it some thought. If I went home right now and told her she would probably smack me with that frying pan of hers and go looking for the boys, butcher knife in hand." He shuddered. "And both Goten and Gohan want to keep their tails," he continued quietly. "I want them to be able to."
Bulma stood up and put her arms around her friend, giving him a quick hug. "Don't worry Goku; I'll make her see reason. And if for some reason she doesn't, or she needs more time to get used to the idea, you are all welcome to stay here as long as you need to, ok?"
Goku gave her a lopsided grin. "Thanks Bulma. We might have to take you up on that offer. I'd better get back. I want to talk to Gohan before he leaves with Piccolo." He pressed two fingers to his forehead, when Bulma grabbed his arm.
"Wait a second," she said. He removed his fingers.
"Can you take some stuff back with you?" she asked.
"Sure, no problem Bulma."
She dragged him into the main house, and up to the nursery. Quickly stuffing diapers into a bag, she backtracked and headed down to the kitchen, where she stuffed several loaded bottles in after the diapers.
"If you are going to stay another day or so, I know Sage will need more of both. Tell Vegeta that the bottles in here are half breast milk, half demi-formula, so Sage might eat more than he would with just a formula bottle."
She hurriedly stuffed some clothes into the bag for both Trunks and Goten, "They're about the same size, they can share." And some for Vegeta and Sage. "Goodness knows what his clothes look like if Sage is holding true to spewing form. And that ought to do it," she said, thrusting a handful of capsules into the side pocket of the bag. "Extra food. Even with Gohan gone, I know how you bottomless pits eat." Goku grinned at her.
"Thanks Bulma," he said. "Do you have a message for Vegeta?"
"Yes, I do. Tell that baka that I miss my boys, and when he gets back we need to have a serious tail talk." She smiled. "Don't worry Goku; I just want to figure out what is so darned special about Saiyjin's tails. And I'm going to tell Chichi what she is missing out on in bed."
Goku blushed furiously at Bulma's hentai grin.
"Uh, well thanks Bulma. See you in a day or so." And before she could say anything else, he blinked out of sight.
Bulma smiled to herself. Teasing him never gets old, she thought. Now what am I going to tell Chichi?
A few hours later, Bulma's ears were still ringing. Her talk with Chichi had not gone over as well as she had hoped. When she left, Chichi was still breaking dishes and threatening to cut all of their tails with a carving knife as soon as they set foot in her house. That she wasn't running a zoo, didn't they appreciate everything she did for them? And Gohan was off with that Namek again? What about his studies? Didn't he want to make something of himself?
Bulma sighed and rubbed her temples. I'll try again tomorrow, she decided. Give her a chance to cool down. I hope they plan on coming back here first. I don't want them going back to that house unprepared. She groaned, and rummaged through her desk drawers, searching for some aspirin. Who would have thought a handful of tails could cause so many problems, she mused.
To be continued….
