BLACK HEARTS
-----
Pan had just destroyed another star. She got back into her spaceship and set off for the next nearest planet. She sat in a chair on the bridge, watching the stars as they whizzed past. She began thinking about them sadly.
Vegeta had once told her that they were beautiful. *God, was it that long ago? No...it wasn't.* She had never understood what he had meant by it. She still didn't. She did, however, realize that they were wonderful, in their own way. There were considerably fewer stars now than there had been only two months ago. They still shone in the sky, as it would take hundreds of
years for the last rays of light to pass for many of them, but they were still gone.
Pan began to wonder why she was doing it. She began to think that maybe she was going about it the wrong way. She had been fueled by anger and disgust before, but the more her child grew, the less right it seemed.
Lately she'd been having mood swings, brought on by the pregnancy. The baby was now two months along. Saiyan-jin children only needed a short time in the womb, so Pan had a bulge in her middle.
She moved her hand and brushed it across her belly. She had tried to hate it. She had tried with all her being, but failed. She knew that she would sooner let herself die than let the baby be hurt. She loved it. She had finally admitted it to herself only a week ago. She didn't think she'd
ever have a child of her own, and now that she did, she felt like she was being handed something that, if she didn't take it now, would pass her by forever.
Her mind drifted to the father of the child, who was the father of her father. Even after she realized who he was, it still took her some time to work it out fully in her head. She realized that Gohan, the half breed, was her future father. She had gained a respect for Kakarott, thinking that
he was really hiding his nature, but realized that being a Super Saiyan-jin altered his behavior. She had lost that respect when she learned this, just as soon as she had acquired it in the first place.
She almost felt sick knowing that she was a quarter breed.
She also wondered if she had the blood of two super Saiyan-jins coursing through her veins. She knew that the kid, her father, would someday become a super Saiyan-jin. She wondered if, in turn, she too would ascend. She also wondered if anyone could be a super Saiyan-jin, like Vegeta, or if only members of her line had the blood to do so.
She thought about her own power. She realized that she could be even stronger than a super Saiyan-jin, using Kaio ken. She hadn't bothered to take her power level, and had no scouter with her to check. The height of her power was just over 20,000, but she had no doubt that she was far
stronger now, even without Kaio Ken. The thing was she knew that Kaio Ken damaged her body. She had even combusted when she went to 100x fighting Freeza, and she knew that no matter how powerful she became, her body had a limit to the amount of Kaio Ken it could take.
But then again, she was the strongest anyway. Even if her grandfather became stronger than her, she had a gut feeling that he would never use that power for anything other than helping people. Vegeta was far weaker than her. *Only when you're using Kaio Ken* She thought, before mentally slapping herself. Thinking that way made her feel dishonorable. *But it's true.
I'm not even half as strong as him without Kaio ken* Or so she assumed. The last time Vegeta's power had been taken was by Jeice of the Ginyu force. It was 120,000. Since than he had had a near fatal injury, and had even been raised from the dead. She guessed this made him several times stronger than before.
The bottom line was, she was supreme, and had the whole galaxy on it's knees.
The ship slowed automatically, and came before a planet. It was thriving with life. Pan didn't see the planet though, as she was looking at it's moon. The whole planet was one big city. The moon was the opposite. Lush greenery covered it, save for the sparkling fresh water oceans. She sat
up in her chair and steered the ship manually to the moon. It landed in a small grassy opening next to a lake, shimmering in the starry night sky. It was on the side facing away from the planet and sun, so it was dark, the only light coming from the stars.
Pan got out from the ship and walked slowly along the side of the lake. She walked to the side opposite the ship, and sat down on the damp grass. She leaned back and put her arm behind her head. She decided that she liked this place. It made her feel at peace. She sighed unhappily and soon fell asleep.
------
Pan awoke when a huge crash erupted nearby, caused by a spaceship landing violently. She shot up to a sitting position, and looked around. It was day time, and the planet was visible in the sky.
The surrounding forests swayed violently as the force of the blast send shock waves their way.
Pan got to her feet. She was about to investigate when a figure appeared in front of her.
'Vegeta?' she asked, only half believing her eyes. Vegeta looked her up and down, and seemed to tense even further, if possible. There was something in his eyes that she couldn't place.
'Pan,' he regarded coldly. 'Who?' he asked, his eyes trailing over her swollen belly.
'Kakarott,' she answered quietly, still ashamed of the child, no matter how much she loved it. She saw a flicker of emotion in Vegeta's eyes.
Vegeta was seething. He was already indescribably angry at Pan, for everything, but now she had turned to Kakarott? She was carrying Kakarott's child? He growled. *It should be mine!*
'Vegeta, I....It's good to see you. I know your furious at me for wishing you off the planet with everyone else, but-'
'-Shut up! You denied me my revenge, and shared it with someone else, who didn't even know he was a Saiyan-jin until a year and a half before hand.' His tone then changed to something softer, but still laced with fury. 'You hurt me, Pan. You hurt me like no one else ever has. Not Zarbon, not Dodoria, and not even Freeza. You hurt me deep inside, where Freeza could not touch. 'I've been doing some thinking, and I realized that I care for you. Some might even call it love, Pan. I know Kakarott would. I gave you my trust. I gave you my companionship. Somewhere along the line, I even gave you my soul, though I didn't know I had one to give, and you threw it back at me by making that wish! And then even more by turning to Kakarott, one of your relatives, I believe, for sex. You will fight me, and one of us will die. With both my dreams shattered, killing Freeza and becoming the Super Saiyan-jin, I care not who does.' Pan's cold, black heart throbbed painfully in her chest when he said this to her.
She had hoped dearly that he would forgive her, but she didn't think he would. What she had done was unforgivable, and she accepted that.
Vegeta lunged at Pan and caught her off guard with a punch right to the nose. Pan's head snapped back. When she brought it back up, she looked into Vegeta's eyes and for the first time, realized that he wasn't joking. She knew then and there that he fully intended to follow through with his ultimatum. She realized that, without even meaning to, she had destroyed him in a way that Freeza never could have.
She felt a pain in her heart, not from the savage blow that Vegeta had just dealt, but from the realization that she had broken him. She began to fight back. Were she alone, she would have let Vegeta kill her, but she fought for the baby within her that she had grown to love. She couldn't sense power levels, but fighting Vegeta made her realize just how much stronger he was.
She powered up to Kaio ken times 10. *Oh my god* she thought, horrified when she realized it wasn't enough. *He's still stronger!* She fought on without going higher, as she greatly feared going higher would harm the fetus, if it was not already too late.
Vegeta punched her in the face, sending her back. She sent a blast his way, which he countered with one of his own. She went to Kaio Ken times 11, and found to her relief that she was matched with him. She guessed him to be a little stronger than Goku on Namek before he went super.
They went into a blazing bout of kicks and punches, many of which Pan had trouble with, as the baby made her movements more awkward. After nearly an hour of intense fighting, Vegeta began to tire out, whereas Pan had vast amounts of Kaio Ken potential energy behind her.
Pan, still ridden with guilt, refused to hit Vegeta. It became all to easy to block his weakening punches. He eventually collapsed at Pan's feet, too tired to move. He could barely manage a scowl, but Pan saw all she needed to know as she looked into his eyes from above him.
She turned and fled, getting into her spaceship and taking off.
------
Vegeta opened his eyes groggily, wincing slightly as bright light attacked his senses. He looked around and saw he was in a medical ward. He shot up, well rested due to the sound sleep. He found that he was still in his armor and spandex. He swung his legs over the side of the bed and got up. He didn't have any injuries, or even bruises. He clenched his jaw. Pan wouldn't even fight back.
He huffed and walked to a door. On the other side was a hall, which led down a corridor which connected with other corridors. There were a number of other life forms in the more distant halls, but the one his room was on had only a lone guard.
The guard approached him and bowed. 'Prince Vegeta,' he said respectfully.
'Where am I?' demanded Vegeta roughly.
'Your on planet Chihiro, at the palace.' Vegeta raised an eyebrow. This was the second planet of the Hantre empire, named after Lord Hantre's late daughter. 'The king wishes to see you. This way,' said the guard before turning around and walking. Vegeta followed him silently. He was taken to a medium sized room with no windows, where a tall and strong looking man with a bushy moustache was waiting. He dismissed the guard, who left without a word.
'Vegeta. Destroyer of my home planet. Murderer of my daughter,' he greeted neutrally. Vegeta didn't show any sign that he even heard the man. 'I need your help.'
'Why?' asked Vegeta monotonously, humiliated to have lost and still be alive.
'To destroy the scourge of the universe,' he answered evenly. 'The scourge has taken 900 trillion lives. Destroyed hundreds of thousands of planets. Almost 2000 stars. More than 500 races, and has caused the collapse of a dozen empires. My empire is the only empire not in chaos, and the only empire with a proper army, and yet my armies have failed to kill her. At the rate she is going, the galaxy as we know it will cease to exist within a year.'
'That's the point,' said Vegeta as if it were obvious.
'What!?' Hantre said.
'That's the point. She wishes to erase all memory of Freeza, and the
only way to do that is-'
'-To kill all who have ever heard about him,' concluded Hantre.
'Exactly,' confirmed Vegeta. 'Why do you think she doesn't destroy uninhabited, or primitive worlds?'
'Because Freeza is not known on those worlds,' said Hantre defeatedly. 'If that is the case, then the situation is even more dire than I thought. That is why I, no, why the universe needs you. You are the only person on record to have survived a fight with her, including Freeza. Please, help us,' begged Hantre.
*I'll never help them. They can help me, however. If I go with them, they're sure to find her. Then I'll kill them all, and kill her* thought Vegeta darkly.
'I couldn't care less about the universe,' began Vegeta. 'But even I think that what she is doing is....unnecessary,' he said, choosing his wording carefully. 'Bring me to her, and I will fight. I will win.'
'Of this I am glad, but you lost once. How can you be sure that you will win? Remember, my mighty armies are at your disposal.' Vegeta waved his hand, dismissing the thought.
'I will not need them. Get me and her on a large planet, and I will finish her. She had to multiply her power 11 times to keep up with me. If I can increase my power 10 times also, I could flatten her.'
'And how do you expect to do this?' asked Hantre skeptically. Vegeta looked at his tail with what little pride he had left.
'A full moon.'
