Chapter Five: Fatal mistakes
Shadow shifted her eerie stare to her challenger. "So, you had to push me so far to do this. . . you don't know what you've gotten yourself into." Trunks continously looked from her to the other man, trying to undertsanf what was happening to his niece. She had just transformed into someone totally different right before his eyes, and yet something about her hair now, the white streaks that combed through the raven black tresses, the akward eye color and to top it all off her attitude; they all seemed to remind him of one person . . . Saris.
She took a step closer towards the other man and held her right arm out level with her waist. She curled her fist just as she gathered a good amount of ki energy to her plalm and created a barely visible aura that formed around her fist. Trunks didn't precisely know what the girl had in mind to do next but the sinking feeling in his gut told him that it wasnt anything pleasant. Shadow's expression remained emotionless and locked her eyes with her offender as she spoke again, this time loud enough for people to hear for miles; "I should have dont this years ago when I had the chance!"
Shadow stalked closer still to him and just as she was about to connect her fist with the warrior before her Trunks had caught on to her motives and acting on impulse threw himself into harm's way resulting in another tragedy. The oncoming fist had connected alright, and without realizing it she had driven it through Trunks' chest, straight into his very lifeforce, rendering him helpless upon contact.
No sound escaped his throat, as he struggled for breath. He sank to his knees and a wave of pain coarsed through his entire body, he had never felt anything like this before. At the same time an alarm sounded deep within her mind, something was terribly wrong. She looked at what she had just done and panicked. Yet she couldn't scream it was terrible, she could only silently remove her fist from his chest. Blood covered her entire hand and as she unclenched her fist she saw the brilliant glowign blue essence that sat in her palm; his soul. She had ripped his very soul from his body. Horrified she looked at Trunks' panick striken face just as his knees gave way and his body fell, like a doll, to the ground. Shadow glanced up to see her true opponent standing there with the cheekiest grin he could form.
Finally she found her vouce and threw her head back gazign at the sky as a hollering cry echoed through the night. Without even noticing it, the blue essence had merged with her ki, and a bright violet light formed into a solid object which extended outwards taking the form of something like a sword. With tears pouring down her reddened cheeks and her newly-found weapon, she charged at the man she had originally intended to kill just as the sky grew several shades darker. A cloud, amost as black as her hair, formed behind him, but he knew what was happening. Her immense power had created a tear int he very fabric of time and space just as he had planned it would.
See, he had realized that he would never be able to stop the girl, so long as her father's soul resided within her, yet she wouldn't have ever aqquired this power if had he killed her father before she was born. Thus, meaning he would do just that by way of this rip in the balance. Just as she was about to strike him, he grabbed hold of the girl firmly by her shoulders. She struggled for a moment while he slowly backed up towards the dark cloud-like vortex. Once she maneged to break free of his grip, she immediately spotted the enormous black hoel behind him.
Panic overcame her at the sight of him standing before it. As angry as she was with him, she didn't know what that vortex led to so she couldn't let him get caught in it. "No! Wait!!"
She leapt forward, attempting to get between him and the hole, but only to be caught by the shoulders again. While he struggled to push her away she desperately tried to keep him from harm's way. "Brat, stay away. I won't let you spoil my plans!"
Something about what he said made her think. /What plans? What's he talking about... He wants enter that black hole?!/ Her thougts were cut short as he easily picked her up by then throat and held her away from him. Shadow struggled to move her arm, that bore the weapon, closer to him but was unsuccessful.
Just then their struggle for power was disturbed. "NO! Let her go!" He peered over the girl's shoulder only to spot someone he hand't seen for too long.
There stood the blue-haired beauty he had fallen for way before Saris came into the picture. He stammered, "B-Bra? What are you_Why are you here?"
"Why do you think? I'm here to save my only daughter, but I never knew I would find you . . . please just put her down!"
He didn't know what to do; that vortex was getting smaller, but his old flame's haunting blue eyes told him that he couldn't go through with it. Again she begged him to drop her daughter. "Uub . . . please . . ."
He solemnly glanced up into the girl's eyes. The creepy orchid was being replaced by a similar blue color that rivaled her mother's. She was slowly losing power, so it was then decided he would let the brat go quick enough to make a dash for the vortex before it closed. Uub backed up even further towards it and Bra persisted, "Please, Uub . . . she's my little girl." the guilt got to him. He wanted to just drop her and quickly dissapear into the darkness bu the knew he couldn't, not with her there. So instead he gently lowered Kokoro down so her feet touched the solid ground once more, releasing his hold on her.
She immediately gasped for air, staggering back from him. "Kokoro? Are you alright?" She whirled aorund to face her mother. "Mom! I'm okay . . . but I don't want anything to happen to you out here, you shouldn't be here!"
Bra, being who she was, dismissed her warnings, "I'm not leaving you here Koro...besides I can handle myself I've been doing this for years remember?"
Kokoro shook her head slowly knowing just that. Trunks had just as much experience as her and yet he too fell to a tragedy. "No mom . . . please . . . Oji Trunks . . . he knew better too but . . . " She couldn't say it, remembering what happened just not too long ago. Bra felt a tightening in her throat, and she swalllowed hard hoping that the feeling she had gotten wasn't because something had happened to her brother. "What...what happened, where is he?"
Kokoro was about to open her mouth to say it but she was abruptly cut off. "What happened you ask? I'll tell you what happened . . . she killed him, that's what!" Uub scowled at the sight of his former love, she had been holding back tears and upon hearing the news she let them go.
She felt like someone had just pierced her heart with an arrow, "What?! Kokoro she wouldn't_" The girl glared at her accuser. "NO! That's not true! I-it was an accident I sware...mom no...he got in the way..." the look on Bra's face was understanding, she didn't believe her daughter would do it purposely. "Koro...you didn't mean to, it's...ok...don't worry about me..."
Kokoro couldn't get her to leave, she was terrified she would get hurt otu here but she knew she'd never listen. "Just...be careful...please."
Uub contradicted her statement in a rather cocky manner. "No my dear, It's you who should be careful!" With a smirk on his face he took another large step backward towards the hole being just an inch or so away. Upon seeing this Kokoro finally understod what he was planning, and she wasn't about to let him do it. "NO!" . She ran back to him and tried to shove him out of the way, yet with no luck. Swiftly he he grabbed her arm, although this time he lost his balance, as pulled her back causing her to stumble into him knocking them both backwards into the black abyss. They dissapeared into the darkness just as it shrunk completely and vanished. Bra sank to her knees and cried out having lost her little girl into some black hole that led to only kami-knows where. "Noo! Kokoro!" That was it, they were gone.
"sets down the box of tissues' >_< well this was a twist of events huh, i'd have to say it's my favorite chapter so far at this point in time anyway...until its completely finished. <_< *
