Common Differences- Family Problems

~*~*~

"Ugh...remind me why we're entering this thing on such short notice" Ryoko sighed after completing a morning routine consisting of a thousand sit-ups, five hundred push-ups, and a twenty minute sparring session at one hundred times Earth's gravity.

"Because some unknown idiot who the Kai thinks is evil and who obviously knows nothing of what happened to past villains here is bound to enter the tournament" Vegeta sneered as he leaned against a wall with his arms crossed.

Ryoko rolled her eyes. "Gee, thanks for enlightening me, O Wise One."

"Anytime," the Saiyan Prince said with a smirk.

The gravity room shook for a moment. The two Saiyans, startled, made their way to the door. They both winced as they heard Bulma's angry shriek forcing the upper register.

"TRUNKS BRIEFS! YOU GET OVER HERE RIGHT NOW!"

"But mom..." They both heard Trunks' meek attempt to make up an excuse to avoid trouble.

"DON'T YOU 'BUT MOM' ME, MISTER! I DON'T CARE IF YOU ARE TRAINING! THAT'S NO EXCUSE TO DESTRY MY LAB!"

"So, he was the culprit," Vegeta growled, "and she's been blaming me and making me sleep on the couch!" He left to have a few words with his son as well.

Ryoko heard Vegeta's voice joining in and sighed. There went her afternoon sparring session. She'd never get enough training if everybody was going to have family problems. ChiChi decided last minute that the entire Son family needed a vacation as soon as she heard four of her least favorite words: World Martial Arts Tournament. Gohan and his family went with her. Syra was a good challenge, but she wasn't competing, Apriel couldn't fight, and Arora was too interested in boys and, more specifically, Trunks. Now the Briefs family was arguing over damaged property. She left Capsule Corp. in hopes of something interesting coming up.

Kaiobit paced back and forth. Tomorrow would be the Tournament. He, of course, was going to participate. Gohan had decided to not compete, but he would be at the ready in case something went wrong. That didn't completely reassure the deity. What if even the mighty Super Saiyans were overwhelmed? What would be the universe's fate then? He drew a slow breath. Now wasn't the time to fill his already overworked mind with more worries. He settled down, preparing to meditate.

Syra settled down at the table of her favorite tea house in the current universe she was in. She needed to check up on a few things before she returned to Ryoko's universe to watch the Tournament. While reading a novel in her left hand, she sipped from her cup of mint tea in her right. When she finished the chapter she had been reading, she placed a bookmark on the page and set down the book.

'Things are very quiet in this universe," she mused. It was very different from Ryoko's, which reminded her about what she had tried to tell the Saiyan. There had been talk in one of the other universes about a disturbance in the balance between the parallel universes. Some reported seeing, or rather sensing, a disturbing absence one morning. She knew to trust who she recieved the information from, for they were even more tuned to the other universes than her.

While she pondered on these events, the waitress passed by her table. Her cup was taken, refilled, then set back upon her saucer with a soft chink. Syra was enough of a regular for most of the workers to know that it was best to not disturb her with asking whether she wanted more tea. The waitress had returned to behind the counter before Syra returned to the present, drank the tea, and moved off for her errands.
