CHAPTER 24: TRAINING WITH THE SONS
She fended off another brutal punch and made her way inside his defenses. With a surprising show of strength she punched him in the gut and made him loose his breath.
Recovering quickly he charged at her, yelling intimidating as he came. He took a shot at her ribs but she deflected it and used his momentum against him. She grabbed his arm and flung him onto the ground. He hopped up and she charged this time.
To her surprise he landed a kick to her face and she fell on the ground on her back. Desperate not to be pinned and over powered like she was with Vegeta, she scrambled up and regained her balance. He charged again but she disappeared quickly and reappeared over him. She brought her hands over her head and swung down onto his back. He landed on his stomach and then cut her feet out from under her. She landed on her back but this time she couldn't get up, she was pinned down again.
Goku got up off her and signaled the end of their morning sparring. He held out his arm to help her up. She glared at him and then took his arm.
"What's wrong Marley? You don't seem to be focusing."
"What do you think is wrong Kakkarot! I'm angry because I can't get stronger! I'll always be weaker than male fighters physically and I can't do anything about it! Wouldn't that make you upset?"
"I wasn't talking about your fighting Marley, I thought you did fine."
"Oh," she said blushing, "sorry."
"I was talking about you. I heard that you and Vegeta were sparring together and then you got in a fight with him."
"Yeah, Gohan stepped in and broke his arm."
"He did what?"
"He didn't know we were sparring. But it really hurts you know, Vegeta almost, for a second, thought I was his equal. I don't know why I have this desire to prove myself to him, it isn't like he cares. But I feel loyal to him you know, he is the prince. How do you not feel loyal to him, it is in our blood," she gave him a sidelong glance. "Oh, of coarse you don't feel loyal. Why am I telling you this?"
"You would be wrong then. When Vegeta first landed on Earth and wanted me to join him, I felt I owed him my allegiance. It was hard for me to refuse. Not any more though. My suggestion, just let it go."
"Thanks Kakkarot. It still hurts a bit. He said he'd never spar with me again. I think I hurt his pride. Oh well."
"Well, you could stay here and train full time. Chichi would love it. Come on!"
Marley looked at him weird. Why is he doing this for me? He is so weird! "I suppose so. I don't really want to live at Capsule Corp. any more. I'll tell Bulma in the morning."
"Cool! Lets get some food now. I'm starving."
Marley watched on as Goku sparred with his son Gohan. They both had serious expressions on their face, although it was clear the younger Saiyan didn't want to spar. He was so passive, not Saiyan-like at all. She had been staying with the Sons for a week and a half now and still didn't understand them. Chichi seemed to be in charge of things, at least everyone did what she said. Goku, although a genius in battle, was extremely stupid when it came to anything else. Gohan was very smart however and loved both his parents. And Goten was, she had gathered, a bit of a troublemaker. All three Saiyans were very soft however, and this most of all upset her. Although she too had feelings, she never showed them, as was she brought up to do. No Saiyan warrior showed their emotions, it made them weak, right? But all of them were powerful fighters. It confused her because, going against how she was brought up, she had begun to show her emotions and she too felt her power increase a bit everyday. Maybe everyone was wrong.
"Marley!" she jumped out of her trance. "You want to spar."
Gohan was finished sparring with his father and was standing in front of her. She smiled and said, "Sure."
Gohan couldn't help noticing that she was very scantly clad. She was wearing black skintight shorts and a black tank top that barely succeeded covering her stomach. She was wearing her trademark daggers for training, all eight of them. Two on her calves, two on her thighs, two on her fore arms, and one on the back of each of her shoulders. She was definitely dangerous.
Marley took her ready position as did Gohan. Goku and Goten stopped fighting to watch. "Watch out son," Goku warned, "she's faster than you think."
Marley smiled, the wicked smirk that reminded everyone of Vegeta, and attacked. She flew at him with remarkable speed and when she was about to hit him, jetted straight into the air. She gathered her ki and shot down on him. He blocked this attack but didn't see Marley as she landed behind him and kicked him in the back. He gained control in mid-air and turned towards her, yelling as he charged.
He fights like Kakkarot. If I breach his defense I'll win easily. She began to punch and kick at him and only one kick landed. He got hold of her leg as she came up to kick and hurled her into the air. He appeared behind her, trying to catch her off balance, but she faded out in front of him. She emerged behind him and gave him a swift kick to the back of the neck. He flew to the ground and kicked off again.
He gathered his ki as he came and fired. She knocked it out of the way easily and appeared behind him with a ki ball of her own. He dodged it and grabbed a hold of her arms behind her back. She brought her leg up in a kick to Gohan's face. His was knocked backwards and she kicked him again. He charged and tried to pin her on a boulder. She used his momentum and shoved him to the ground, pinning him on his back. She gathered a ki ball and held it above his head.
She had won.
Marley absorbed it back into her hand and rolled off of him, breathing heavily. She was exhausted. "If you got faster," she said between heavy panting, "you would beat me. Unless we were to fight as Super Saiyans, then I don't know."
"I haven't sparred like that since I was a kid."
They both began to sit up and Goku and Goten were looking over them.
"Wow!" Goten said. "That was cool. Are you guys okay?"
Marley growled and said, "You try getting your ass kicked all day long and still realizing you are too weak!" She stopped herself, "Sorry Goten, I'm upset."
She got up and walked off. Then it struck her. She was jealous of Goten. He obviously had the most potential of the Z-fighters, and the least willing to reach his full potential. She sighed and blamed it on his human blood.
Gohan was following her into the forest. "Hey! What did you do that for? Goten was only being nice!"
His angry voice stung her. She didn't like it when he was mad. "And on top of that, you are the one who made us come out here and train and you haven't even told us why!"
She turned around to meet his eyes. He looked down on her, an angry glare in his eyes. He looked harder and realized something was wrong. She had tears in her eyes. His expression softened and he took her into his arms. "Tell me what is wrong. I love you and it kills me to see you like this."
She looked into his face, "You love me?"
"Of course I love you! Why do you think I always look at you, think about you, dream about you? I love you more than anything!"
She looked at him again and began sobbing on his shoulder. "Gohan! Everything is so awful and I can't tell any one about it! I want to, but I can't!"
She continued sobbing until she fell asleep in his arms.
