Five years passed since the day Goku died...
Vegeta lived alone with Yasai in the middle of the woods, in the same house next to the creek. On rainy days, the creek's water level would rise and the water would foam up and making a roaring sound, which startled Yasai. He would run to Vegeta and dig his head into his chest and cry. Vegeta would hug him and comfort him.
Ever since Goku died, Vegeta changed...
He was more patient than ever. He was much kinder than before. And he cared for Yasai. He figured that now Goku was gone, he would have to take matters into his own hands and raise Yasai.
But because he was so depressed the five years that he took care of Yasai, the young boy didn't have much interest in fighting. In fact, he didn't show much interest in anything. He was terribly shy and a bit sensitive. But there was one thing he showed very strong interest in...
It started one night- to be specific, Yasai's fourth birthday. Vegeta had thrown a small party, his first actually. When Yasai blew out his candles, Vegeta looked at him.
"What did you wish for?" Vegeta asked him.
Yasai giggled. "Don't be silly Dad. If I tell you then my wish won't come true," he said.
Vegeta laughed. "But do you think that keeping your wish locked up inside of you would help it come true?"
Yasai looked at him for a moment, then realized he had a point. Vegeta wrapped his arms around Yasai. "Come on child. You can tell me," he said. Yasai took a deep breath and looked at Vegeta nervously.
"I.. I wished to get to know Father..." he whispered. Vegeta's expression softened and he stared at Yasai.
"Boy... is that what you really wish to get? To know your father?" he asked. Yasai nodded.
"I'll tell you a bit about him..." Vegeta whispered.
And so he began, telling Yasai alot about Goku, his interests, what he looked like, what he acted like, and a bit about his life, starting from when he was born, and quickly stopping when he got to the part where Goku was killed by Kakarotto.
"And then?" Yasai asked Vegeta. Vegeta sweatdropped.
"And then... your father met his match... he passed away..." he mumbled.
Yasai teared up. "You mean he..."
Vegeta nodded and hugged Yasai tightly. "Yes... Yasai, don't worry... he's in a better place now..." he said reassuringly.
Yasai felt a knot in his throat, choking him as he refused to cry. "You mean heaven?" he asked. Vegeta nodded.
"Yes. I mean just that," Vegeta said to the boy softly. Yasai nodded, then thought of one more question.
"Will... Will he come back?" Yasai asked.
Vegeta had trouble with this question, because he honestly didn't know. But, he thought of the most reasonable thing to tell him..
"I honestly don't know. But I do know that he would do anything to see you," he said.
Yasai sighed, tears rolling down his cheeks. He snuggled close to Vegeta, fearing that if he didn't stay close to him, Vegeta would be lost, and he would be an orphan.
Vegeta sighed and cried silently as well.
That was a year ago.
A day before Yasai's 5th birhtday, Vegeta was in town, but though he did not like being in the group of humans, he figured that today was considered a pretty special day...
He dodged the crowds of people on the sidewalks, he honestly wanted to blow everyone up... but then again, they would make great slaves...
Vegeta gave an evil smirk as he walked through the crowded streets. He was walking to the house, because he was already finished his business.
He heard the roaring of the creek near, telling him that he was almost home. The woods were peaceful at the moment, no noises coming from the trees, the branches of the trees swaying from side to side slowly, the leaves making rustling sounds.
It was winter, the animals had all hid in their dens, caves, trees, and holes and started hibernation. This was the first time in five years that it had snowed, the previous years it had only rained, matching the dark and gloomy feeling Vegeta had.
On those rainy days, when Yasai was put to sleep for the night, Vegeta would sneak out and sit beside the creek, and watch the water level rise and fall, the bubbling and slight steaming of the water calming him.
The creek would always remind him of Goku, when they had fished in there time to time, the two men sometimes fought for the fish, and always ended up starting a small arguement or laughing when it swam away.
Tears would form in Vegeta's eyes, as he remembered life before the death of his mate. It was so much better than life right now. So much brighter, the days the two would just sit in the woods and talk, and even when Vegeta insulted Goku would be considered better than life for the prince right now.
And Goku never got the chance to say the proper goodbye to Vegeta or his son.
Vegeta sighed, walking over to the creek, his heart aching. He sat down next to it, the snow under him melting slightly from the warmth of his body. He watched the creek water flow calmly, occasionally making loud sounds when Vegeta dropped rocks and pebbles into the creek. He closed his eyes and imagined for a while...
He imagined Goku with Yasai, the young Saiyan carrying the child like a doll, the boy giggling. He would hug Goku and Goku would laugh, then hug him back. They would see Vegeta and wave to him happily.
"Vegeta! Hi!" Goku said, giving him a light peck on the cheek. Yasai smiled and said," Konichiwa!"
Vegeta smiled and then... and then....
He felt snow fall heavily now, and he got up, putting the package he had under his coat, then walking the rest of the way to the house. When he was in the house, the warmth made his cheeks go a bit pink. He felt a tingle in his body.
A few moments after arriving, Yasai greeted Vegeta with a tight hug.
"Dad! Dad! Hi!" he chanted.
Vegeta smiled. "Hello son. Happy Birthday."
Yasai gasped. "You remembered! You remembered!" he said in joy. Vegeta laughed.
"Why wouldn't I?" he asked. Yasai plainly shrugged and looked at Vegeta.
"Where's my pwesent?" he asked innocently. Vegeta chuckled and said," Child, one day I may not have one for you, so what will you do then?" Yasai shrugged again and poked around Vegeta's coat, until he touched something solid.
"I found it!" he said in delight, finding the small package. He looked at Vegeta and asked politely," May I open it?"
Vegeta nodded and Yasai unwrapped the small gift. After unwrapping it, he still had to open the box. He opened it excitedly, and in it, found a stuffed bear. Vegeta honestly didn't think it was much, rather just another object he could blow up, but Yasai seemed very pleased with the gift.
"Happy birthday, Yasai," Vegeta said.
Yasai squealed in joy. "Thank you Dad! Thank you!" he chanted. Vegeta smirked.
"Whatever, child," he said, then Yasai hugged him again.
The same routine like last year, Vegeta thought. Yasai blew out the candles and made his wish.
"What did you wish for?" Vegeta asked. Yasai smiled, and easily said what he had desired...
"I wanted to spar with you Dad," he said. Vegeta's lips curved into a smile.
"Is that so? Well, how about we spar right now?" he said.
"Awesome!" Yasai said, putting the stuffed bear down, then running outside.
Vegeta walked outside after him.
"Alright, son, hit me with everything you got!" Vegeta said. Yasai nodded and began to fight with Vegeta.
Vegeta realized that Yasai was very soft, he wouldn't use all his power because he thought that he might hurt Vegeta. He needed to learn alot before Vegeta would ever spar with him again...
In the end, Yasai shouted his surrender, and Vegeta frowned.
"Child, you must learn to fight. You have to sense where your target is, not see it," Vegeta said. Yasai hung his head in shame.
"Yasai, I am sure that you know that noone is born knowing something. They must practice. And that is what we shall do. We will practice, and when I see that you are ready, we will try this again, okay?" he said. Yasai nodded, and walked back to the house. Vegeta followed.
Tomorrow, he thought, I'll teach you the basics.
