Chapter Seven: Truth Hurts

Goku laid down on the wet ground underneath one of the other willow trees. The lake had many to choose from, and this one was almost dry underneath when compared to the others he searched under.

The willow branches allowed a very nice view of the lake if one were to look out, but to look in, you wouldn't even notice that there was someone under there.

Goku didn't know why, but he liked this particular spot. It was just as peaceful as his home on Mount Paozu. He let out a small sigh. Sure he could go to Mount Paozu anytime he wanted to, but it was the fact of seeing Chichi.

She ended their marriage that he was sure that they were both happy with. `Apparently not.' he thought to himself.

Curling into a ball, Goku watched the rain for a few hours. Lifting his head a few times to watch Vegeta pace back and forth in front of where he was laying. Every once in a while his eyes met those of his prince. Goku could tell Vegeta was thinking of something, but exactly what was always a mystery. Vegeta liked to keep to himself.

After another hour of random passes in front of the tree, Vegeta ducked under a few stray veils of the rope like branches. He sat himself down beside Goku as that one had started to fall asleep.

Every once in a while Goku could hear a few random grumbles from the prince as he slipped further into a slumber; smiling as he fell into a deep sleep.

Vegeta leaned up against the trunk of the tree. He scratched his back around in a circle as if the tree were a pillow. Finding a comfortable position, he too fell asleep within minutes.

Gohan had come and gone with the news to Bulma, that his father was unable to read the letters. Bulma was disappointed to hear it.
After Gohan had left, she began to search through the computer that the letter was originally found on. She knew that both she and Vegeta had searched every file on that computer at least a hundred times to see if any other letters had shown up.

One theory of Vegeta's was that Raditz may never have set foot in a CC building, but had probably found a frequency used by the computer.

Vegeta explained that Raditz would often leave puzzle pieces on planets because he knew that Vegeta, Nappa and he were the only ones who were able to read the Saiyan language. Saiyans can pick up a new language within days, so they never taught outsiders how to speak their own language.

“Raditz would often write letters,” Vegeta explained, “And hack into the planets technology to hide Saiyan secrets to see if I could figure out the puzzle. If I was unable to solve the puzzle before the planet exploded, Raditz would make the puzzle harder to find and solve on the next planet.”

“Why would he do that?” Bulma remembered asking.

“Raditz and Nappa were ordered NEVER to teach me about Saiyan customs from the moment we were orphaned from our planet.” Vegeta said taking a seat at the kitchen table. “So Raditz created a way that Frieza never knew about in order to teach me about Saiyan habits, lifestyles, ranks, customs, anything. All I had to do was solve the puzzle.”

Pointing at the letter on the computer screen Vegeta added, “This might not be a puzzle in the way that you think it is, but to me each of his words is a message I must decipher. Or it could very well just be his suicide letter. The fact that he came to this planet out of orders only to force his bother to kill him....”

Bulma looked up from her thoughts as she remembered that. Raditz had come to Earth to commit suicide. Kidnaping his nephew in order to provoke someone who would be strong enough to kill him was apparently an honorable way to die.

“Why Goku?” She remembered asking him.

“Because he was the only one who could kill him, without parading his death around like a trophy.”

Vegeta took a sip from Bulma's coffee cup. “If he were to taunt any of Frieza's crew into killing him, anyone of them could have used it as a bragging right and torture Nappa and myself into submissive grounds. It might seem un-honorable to you to commit suicide like he did, but when you lived around Frieza since you were born, you would understand that as far as Raditz's death at the hands of his brother and green bean was probably the most honorable way to die in our circumstances.”

Looking back at the computer screen, Bulma could make out the words as Vegeta had translated for her. A few she couldn't remember how he translated them, but she looked sad as she read the words over and over.

“Raditz loved Vegeta.” Truth be told, he committed suicide in order to save the three of them. “But from what?” She commented to herself as she ran her fingers over the passage that Vegeta never translated for her.

She spent several hours in front of the computer just staring at the text. “What did he say to you, Vegeta?”

`The rain stopped a few hours ago' Goku thought glancing around at the drying ground around him. He had woken up to a few birds chirping nearby. Their song continuous and soothing.

He had listened to them for a few minutes when all of a sudden they had both stopped. Glancing up into the high branches, Goku could see why. Vegeta was perched up high, legs swung around on both sides of the branch in a straddled position. The birds had cleared out as he started to growl at them.

Goku chuckled. Vegeta didn't seem to be a morning person. Either that or Vegeta just didn't like birds waking him up.

Yawning, he sat up. He had woken a few times in the night and just thought about a few different things until he fell asleep again.

Stretching and getting up, Goku could see out of the corner of his eyes, Vegeta watching him carefully. Every movement seemed to be registering in the older Saiyans mind. Walking to the edge of the lake, Goku called over his shoulder.

“Want breakfast?”

“Not from you,” was his answer. Smirking, Goku removed his shirt and dove in.

Vegeta dropped down from the trees and walked back to the clearing to gather Goku some semi-dry logs in order to cook whatever he caught.

Half an hour later, a fire was roaring on the beach as Goku came up carrying a rather large fish. Vegeta just watched him cook the meal and watched him eat in silence. Vegeta wasn't very hungry this morning, and couldn't figure out why not. But he kept his thoughts to himself.

Goku finished his meal and glanced at the other Saiyan.

Growling low, Vegeta turned his head to show the other he did not want to be looked at.
“Do you want to come with me?”

Vegeta was rather startled at the bluntness of the question. “Go with you where, not that I'm interested in going any where with you of all people. My task of finding you is completed and now that the hunt for the missing `blathering idiot' is over, I wish to return home and continue my training. Also, I have been away from my new cub far to long.”

“Technically, I found you.” Goku said with a laugh as the other Saiyan scoffed at him. “I want to go looking for the Dragonballs.”

Cocking his head to the side, Vegeta looked back at the other Saiyan. “Why do you want those? We are not in a battle to save this miserable mud ball. No one has died. What need of them do you have?”

Goku thought about his response before he answered. “I've been thinking for a long time now. Ever since we defeated Kid Buu.” Vegeta nodded his head to show Goku, that he was still listening.

“Well, I have given so many people chances to surrender. TaoPaiPai, Frieza, Cell, Buu, Piccolo, you, included. I gave them all chances to surrender or to stop whatever evil they were doing and allow them the chance to live in peace.” Vegeta once again nodded to the larger Saiyan.

“I never gave that chance to my brother, did I?” Goku asked looking into the smothering fire.

Vegeta looked at the fish bones laying beside the fire nearest Goku. “No, you didn't.”

“That was rectorial, Vegeta.”

“I'm a prince. If I wish to speak, then I will.”

Rolling his eyes, he continued. “Well, of course I have Gohan and Goten, they're my sons. But I want a family. With Chichi, sure, I loved her, but something didn't feel right being with her. Even though I only knew Raditz for a few hours, something told me that I should have gone with him. I would never kill people for their planets like you were forced to do. It's just that being near Raditz... well, it just felt right.”

Vegeta stared at the younger one. `Should I tell him? Why not, you told Bulma,' he answered himself.

“Well, since I gave everyone else a chance to turn their lives around, it should only be fair to give Raditz a second chance, right? And if he doesn't take it, I could always have him sent back, right?”

Vegeta stared at Goku as an uneasy silence came over the pair. “Uh, Right Vegeta?”

“Sorry, I thought that question was rectorial too.” Vegeta said almost sarcastically.

Face faulting, Goku started laughing. “Let me visit my cub first then I will join you on your journey.”

“REALLY!” Goku's eyes started to dance.

“It shouldn't take any more then a few days with that instant transmission of yours, so we won't be gone long.”

“Well, that's just it, Vegeta. Since I don't have anywhere else to go, and I don't have to answer to Chichi anymore, I was thinking about just traveling like a normal person. Taking in the sites, eating the local food, just like I did before I was tied down with Chichi.”

“Ah, the humans `ball-and-chain' rubbish.”

“Exactly. I don't want to hurry up my travels because I don't have to be anywhere. I mean, when I thought to ask you to come along, I forgot all about Bulla when I was rolling the idea around in my head.” He admitted.

Vegeta looked at his peasants eyes. They lost their luster and began to cloud over a bit as that one looked back down into the fire.

“About how long would you say we would be gone for a journey like this?”

Goku glanced back up. “No more then six months, knowing you and me, we would probably get it done by the end of the month. But you gotta think, I want to take in the sites too. We could get more acquainted with this planet you seem to like more then you let on. I mean since you are here on this planet, you may as well enjoy it.

“You don't get a chance to enjoy it like I use to. Not when you all the time stressing your body under 1,000 times gravity.”

Goku looked as Vegeta rolled the idea around in his head some more. “If it helps your decision, we can always visit Bulla every couple of weeks if you don't want to be away from her for to long.”

Vegeta glanced hard at the other Saiyan. He did want to get out more. Bulma was always busy, so she couldn't go with him when he didn't want to be alone.

The only time they traveled together would be if CC were doing a business meeting out of country and he would go just to enjoy the company of his bed mate.

However, here was Goku offering the Prince to come along with him to journey around the world to search for dragonballs, to get him out-and-about, and to revive the one Saiyan that he truly missed as a companion, friend, ally, and quite possibly could have been the true love of his life. But Kakarott didn't need to know that.

Vegeta got up, allowing the other Saiyan to watch as he paced once more. Goku took a final bite of the fish he had been holding, awaiting the smaller ones reply.

“As long as we return to CC so that I may see my cub, and as long as you respect my boundaries, then I would be honored to accompany you around the world in search of the dragonballs.”

Goku jumped from his seat and glomped onto the smaller Saiyan. A rich heavy purr erupting from his chest while the other turned a bright shade of red.

“WHAT THE FUCK DID I JUST FINISH SAYING ABOUT BOUNDARIES!!!”

Goku quickly let go and dashed back towards his seat. His own face turning a deep shade of red. `Why the hell did I do that!?'

Vegeta brushed himself down as if to rub off any scent of the other Saiyan from off himself. Growling at the offender, he pointed his finger. “Do. Not. Touch. Me. Like. That. Ever. Again,” he ordered.

“I didn't intend on doing that the first time, I swear! I don't know what came over me.” Goku said, waving his hands out to the front. Balling his hands up, he brought them close to his face as if to shield his oncoming blush line.

Vegeta snorted at him. Walking over to the fire he kicked dirt into the fire to smother it out. “The sooner we get home, the sooner we can pack and get this trip over with!”

Goku smirked. The hug hadn't detoured Vegeta from coming along. The smirk turned into a true honest smile. Besides the one of him finding Vegeta yesterday, Goku hadn't smiled like that in a long time.

Goku walked over to the prince, placed his hand on that ones shoulder, he brought his other hand to his forehead and concentrated his chi to circulate his body in preparation of the Instant Transmission. With the Capsule Corporation building clearly in his mind, he surged his chi into his mind to create the displacement of space, quickly traveling to the place.

Quicker then a blink, he and Vegeta were standing outside of the CC building. It was a new day. Sunny skies were all around as both Saiyans approached the front door. Even as they exited Goku's IT, Vegeta could hear his cub wailing for something. Growling at the earnestness in his daughter's cry, he quickly left the other Saiyan standing by the front door.

Dashing up the stairs and slamming open his daughters room, he could see Bunni holding the crying infant in hopes of calming her.

“Oh, Vegeta, I'm so glad your back. Bulma has been in meetings all day long and well, this poor dear just can't seem to go to sleep at all. She's been crying for hours.” Bunni told him.

Slowly taking his cub from her grandmother, Vegeta held the little one close to his chest. As soon as he touched her, Bulla had instantly ceased her crying and started to gurgle at his touch as she had months ago during the rainstorm.

“Oh, she just wanted her father! Isn't that sweet Vegeta?” Bunni stated. “I'll go get you something to eat if you can watch her for a few moments?”

“Of course I'll watch her, she is my daughter after all!” Vegeta growled. Bulla started squirming in his arms, so he quailed the growling at once.

“I guess I'll go make you some cake too, then, huh Vegeta?” Bunni said excitedly.

“No, I will be leaving again shortly. Kakarott and myself will be journeying to collect the Dragonballs. Have Dr. Briefs bring me the radar at once, and tell him to throw in a few useful capsules while he's at it.”

“Oh, Goku always loves going on adventures. So did Bulma when she was younger. Why if I were a few years younger I swear I would be begging you both to let me go!” Bunni said giggling. Vegeta only rolled his eyes.

He knew that no matter what he said, the woman just wouldn't be bothered by it. `She's such an air head.' Snickering he thought `I wonder where Bulma could have possibly picked that trait up from?'

Glancing down, his daughter had fallen asleep against his chest; a small drool dribbling from her tiny mouth onto his shirt. Holding her at eye level he watched as the drool stretched its self to the new length.

“Princesses should never drool.” Vegeta groaned.

Bunni left the prince to his thoughts, and went on her way to seeing about filling the prince's request. Passing Goku on her way down the stairs, she made a shushing noise at the tall Saiyan as that one peered into the room.

Another smile gracing Goku's face as he watched Vegeta slowly swaying the slumbering infant as he walked a slow circle around her room.

Goku decided not to disturb the two, and turned around to follow Bunni to the kitchen.

“Damn it, Vegeta, how about a little heads up!”
“Onna, I just found out this morning that Kakarott was even going,” Vegeta yelled back. Plugging his fingers into his ears, he tried to wipe away the headache that was beginning to build.

Bulma tossed the manual she had been holding at the Saiyan. “That's just great Vegeta! Who's going to look after Bulla? I'm overloaded on work, in case you can't tell. I've been attempting to make plans to rebuild the flux clog ignition for the new capsule line. I'm behind on a few blueprints, because I had to take a maternity leave, which I'm still blaming you for...”

Vegeta rolled his eyes. Bulma loved to blame him for all the times when she became backed up. `Although the maternity thing was partially my fault,' he snickered at the thought.

“So tell me how I'm suppose to work into my schedule the time to take care of Bulla like a good mother should?”

“Get your father to take back some of the responsibility that he gave to you in the first place. Capsule Corp. is his business, not yours. You have yelled at me in the past over that subject about how he should do his own work.” Vegeta calmly told her. “Because you have been doing his work for him, and stressing yourself out over it, he has had more time to become engrossed in those damn animals he keeps in the greenhouse.”

“Some of those animals are becoming an endangered species, Vegeta.”

Some of those animals”.Vegeta mocked, “are wearing tutu's. He has more time to play dress up since you took his work from him. And don't even get me started on endangered species.”

“If your so adamant about spending time with your family, then you should have thought about that before taking over your fathers job.”

“I didn't have a family at the time I took over the job Vegeta. I gained it later on in my life.”

“Yet, even after you took over the family business, you have been able to do as you please.” Vegeta held up his hand. “Since I have known you, mind you, there was the trip to Namek where you spent several months.” He told her as he tapped his pinky with his other hand's pointer.

“There were those three years you spent hovering over my shoulder, checking out my ass, not that I minded that too much, that was some of the best sex I've ever had.” Vegeta said with a smirk. Bulma blushed at this. “During which time, you spent a grand total of two months in the offices of CC, and playing at the beach the rest of the time while all the Z fighters worked their asses off to prepare for the androids.”

“You actually started to work shortly after the Cell Games. But then you took time off for the tournament before Buu showed up. After we defeated the gum wad, you took another year of, during which time you spent ONE DAY with my and ended up pregnant again.” Vegeta said holding up the rest of his fingers, each one counted upon per subject.

“Your telling me,” he scolded, “ that after years of you fucking around, then finally starting to take your job seriously, the moment you become busy enough to actually work like a real person, you make complaints about not having time off to spend with your family?”

“You are co-owner of a multi-bazillion zeni business, and you can not even schedule time off for yourself. If you really want to take time off to spend with your family like you claim, then just drop off your projects into any of your underling's laps, give them a deadline, then enjoy your time off. It is what you pay them for, is it not?” Vegeta said folding his hands into his pockets.

“I can't trust them all of my projects, that's why I'm doing them. Some of its top secret stuff that can't afford to be leaked out to competitors, so I can't risk giving the project to them. Besides,” Bulma said with a smirk if her own, “They arn't as smart as I am, and would only make it worse.”

“Then stop complaining. When you do want to spend time with us, schedule us in. You have not spent any time with me in years, and the one day you finally manage to find time, you got pregnant in the first place. So since you are so busy anyway, you would not even notice if I just took off on a long trip.

“I am just trying to be courteous to let you know that I will be traveling with Kakarott, we will be returning every couple of weeks so that I can visit with my family. So it's not like I'm going to be gone on one straight shot.”

Bulma looked her boyfriend up and down. She knew she was being harsh, he wasn't trying to start a fight with her. He was letting her know that while she was going to be busy for the next few months that he would be occupied so if she needed anything, she knew what he would be up to.

Sighing, she walked over to her desk and pulled out the radar. It was what he originally came here for when Dr. Briefs didn't know where it was.

“Don't expect a feast each time you come home.” She said handing the radar to him. “Because I'm not going to be calling you every day to ask if your coming home yet or not.”

“I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm trying to go relax.”

“Like you need the vacation.” Bulma huffed.

“I was working nonstop since the age of three. Until I came to this third rate planet, I was working almost every day of my life. And on days when I was not working, I was being tortured, so do NOT presume to tell me when I can and cannot go as I please!” Vegeta growled out.

Bulma hadn't meant to cross the line. As she heard him slam the door behind him, she regretted even saying it. She didn't mean for it to come out like it had, but she had hurt him unintentionally. Now she had to find a way to make it up to him.
To Be Continued...
