Conviction

They can see it in my eyes.
I can it in my eyes.
Time lies.
I am falling further down.
I've tried, but landing is hard.
Fallen chance.
Another lesson.
I'll give it all I can.
Another lesson.
I gave it all I could. Unearth

“Hahaha,” The laughter erupted from a dark corner. Footsteps sounded, echoing with a familiarity. The dark talons scraped against the marble floor. Gideon revealed himself, his wings folding up behind him. “Did you think you were dying? That would be too easy, Vegeta. Did your life flash before your eyes? That would be torture in and of itself.”

Vegeta looked to the female whose eyes were wide. It was weird. He felt disappointed for her. She had worked so hard to get here only to be shot down. Why did that sound like the story of his life?

The gernak whispered, “There was poison.”

“There was. I switched it out. I couldn’t let him die. We’re partners.”

Her yellow body took a few steps back until she hit the wall behind her. “But I…I was so close.” She whispered to herself as the knife dropped from her hand. Her eyes lifted “Why--” She caught sight of the light that shined upon his chest. Her voice was low as her shaking finger pointed, “Is that…”

“A crystal? Why yes it is.”

“Where, where did you get that?”

“Oh, I’m sorry, I’m must have forgotten to tell you before. Thanks to the boy, we have the crystals, Jelsy. You were right; they give you so much power.”

Jelsy shook her head, “I don’t understand. Why did you take the knife?”

“Because then we would never be able to defeat him with the crystals. Really Jelsy, it’s much more fun this way.”

Vegeta held tight to his shoulder which was bleeding immensely. He needed to end this not only for himself but for Trunks as well. He brought his black eyes to Gideon. “I should have known you were a traitor.”

“Traitor? Not a traitor, just someone that knows who and what will help me get Universal domination. And you knew it. Vegeta, You and I go way back. How could you actually trust someone like me? It was a bonus really that the boy was sick. It has made you blind and desperate. Coming here to a planet where you have such limited power, a place where you are most weakened.” Vegeta lowered his head. Gideon is right. He had been blind. Even if the boy wasn’t sick, he had forgotten how easy it was for creatures to betray.

“Pure Kitaya?”

“Is easily tricked. She reads you thinking your all evil. All you got to say is that you want to change and she’s convinced.”

“No.”

“No, what?”

“This wasn’t the original plan. You were different before.”

Trunks shook his head, narrowing his eyes, “Before Mischa.”

“While we were held up in this room for hours, you changed your mind. To save your people and yourself.” Vegeta concluded watching Gideon’s reaction that only proved they were right about him.

“It’s true.” Jelsy interrupted in a whisper. “He came to me and told me all about you. And his plan.”

“Listen to you. Are you siding with the enemy?”

“No, I’m-”

“What? So I screwed up your plans wanting to make his death last a little bit longer, be a little bit more painful. He’s still going to die. Your still going to avenged as you put it, so what is the problem?”

“You don’t understand. Queen Kana said--”

“Queen Kana. You know, I’m glad I never met the demon; she probably would have pissed me off. But enough, I want to get started in taking over this universe.” Though Gideon’s right hand held a blast toward Vegeta, his left hid behind him, developing a beam.

Trunks saw the light; she was unaware as she stood against the wall, eyes lost to her thoughts. Vegeta couldn’t see it from his angle. He was the only one to save her. A fleeting thought floated in his head. Why not let her die? She planned on killing his father. She wanted it. She almost had. One less person to betray them later on. Those fleeting thoughts were enough to distract him too long to power up. Trunks jumped in front of her, arms crossed in front of his chest protectively. The power hit him with such massive force it shoved him back against her, knocking them both to the floor.

Vegeta saw them fall and shoved off his front foot, powering up in a half second, smacking the blast away and landing a blow on Gideon’s face.

Trunks panted heavily, his arms bleeding profusely, burning and sizzling. But he lifted himself up off the woman beneath him and stared down upon her shaking form. She looked at him with such disbelief her lips shook with unsaid words. “Wh.. Why did y-you save me?”

“I can’t let you die.” He smiled softly, her eyes never leaving his.

“Why?”

“My dad raised me a little bit better then to let an innocent person die.”

“But…But I tried to kill…I don’t deserve…

“We’ve all done things we’re not proud of.” Trunks directed his gaze to his father. Vegeta blocked as many blows as he could but there was no chance of fighting back. Gideon’s speed was too great. Trunks looked back down to her. “But…sometimes all we need is someone to give us a second chance.”

“Haha ha, tell me this isn’t fun!” Gideon smashed his foot in Vegeta’s stomach sending him crashing out of the room; a punch to the face flung him through another wall. And one more kicked to the back sent him through the last wall that brought them outside.

Vegeta rolled over in the dirt, coughing up blood. Gideon was never this strong before. And the man’s laughter was driving him mad with rage. He got to his hands and knees, feeling Gideon land right next to him. He quickly stood. “Amazing those crystals. Make the weakest creature a powerful opponent.”

“Damn right. I love it. I can feel it coursing through my veins. They feed on desire. My desire to be a ruler, and destroy all that is evil.” Vegeta was quick to block the first to his face, but his arms stung nonetheless. “It’s amazing. No matter how much you changed, these crystals actually desire you. They feel your want to be pure. That’s so pathetic. The once infamous Prince wanting to be good. Ironic, isn’t? You’ll never know the one thing you desire most.”

“Shut up.” Vegeta growled flying at Gideon but the creature just shifted out of the way at a speed Vegeta couldn’t comprehend. He turned away catching the creature’s smug face.

“Vegeta, did you really come out here seeking forgiveness? Did you think that was possible? The gods themselves shrunk at your discourse. They fled from your universe in fear of you. They changed your destiny because of the evil inside you. And you showed them your power, didn’t you? By destroying worlds and dimensions. By proving to every one how much worse you were then compared to Frieza. The way you rid yourself of a soul.”

“Tell me Gideon. Do you speak to hear yourself talk? I have heard words much worse then yours. You have no direct hatred towards me. No reason for it. You want to kill me now because I am a threat to you. You fear me as everyone else.”

“I did. Until I watched that little discussion you had with Jelsy. Now I know you are as pathetic as that son of yours.” Vegeta picked off his feet and flew at him but Gideon shifted just a bit to the right and turned swiftly to smash a hand down upon his back. Vegeta felt the ground crack and give way beneath his body. “Why not change, into that powerful Gold creature. The Savoir that everyone prayed for. Show me the transformation.” Vegeta tried to get to his hands and knees but the moment he moved Gideon attacked with dual kicks to his stomach and then face. “Change. Fight me like the beast I know you are.”

Vegeta gripped Gideon’s leg and yanked it from beneath him, giving Vegeta time to stand while Gideon growled with frustration, dusting off his long wings. “It’s funny. You sound exactly like Frieza did right before I ripped him to shreds.” Vegeta kicked him hard in the chest sending him flying backward but his wings caught him and flapped angrily. “I do not kill anymore.” Vegeta grit his teeth. He felt the Super Sayian powers nibble at his fingertips. The blackness of his eyes were swirling teal as he suppressed his desire to transform. The transformation he had driven twenty years of his life to reach, he suddenly wished he didn’t have it. Just to prove to Gideon and anyone watching that he was not a beast anymore. The Legendary had suddenly become a curse, a hideous beast that slept inside him.

Gideon flew at him, punching his face, “Then suffer a long and painful death.” Gideon followed the helpless body as it flung across the air with each kick or punch. Vegeta tried his best to keep guarding his breaking body but it wouldn’t be long until he couldn’t move anymore. The blood loss was making him too weak.

Gideon dropped back, landing on the floor just before Vegeta’s body crashed down. The Sayian coughed over and over as the blood soaked his lungs. Vegeta stared down upon the rocky ground taking in deep breaths. If he didn’t stop this, he was going to die. And he was never going to get his chance to be forgiven. He needed to fight. So why wasn’t he?
