Chapter 7

Chichi held Goten until he fell asleep, he whimpered softly as she moved to get up, and she bit back tears of her own. Her worst fears seemed to have come true when Gohan hadn't returned an hour ago. There was no telling what her son had seen, and she already knew this was not going to work out for the best. Gohan might never forgive his father for leaving without warning this way. If he had seen him…with her, Chichi swore to herself that she'd never forgive him. After everything that boy had been through… he didn't need to know his father had betrayed them, left them for some little tart that wasn't even out of school yet.

It occurred to her now more than ever that she should've simply left him as she was going to last year. If she had, perhaps her heart would be healed by now, maybe she could even bring herself to be happy for Goku, since she had always known, deep in her heart that he hadn't ever loved her as she had loved him. Deep in her heart she also knew that Goku wouldn't have left them for a few hours of pleasure. She didn't want to admit it, even to her own heart, but Goku loved his sons, and she didn't need anyone to tell her that he would never hurt them on a whim.

This was bigger than being left for a new lover; this was her husband being more than human. Since she had learned of what had happened with Bulma and Vegeta, Chichi had already known that her life with Goku was never meant to be. He was a good father and a patient husband, but he didn't love her, not the way she wished he would. Goku was a Saiyan, powerful, fearless and primal in battle, she had always found it odd that he was so gentle and so tender in bed. Where was the lust and passion he fought with when they were alone together in bed? She sighed it was no use now, but her heart was still having a hard time accepting that it was over. She had lost him to a force, an instinct she was never meant to understand. Making her way downstairs, Chichi went to the phone, and dialed the number of the one person she prayed might be able to help, or at least listen.

Gohan stopped flying when he reached the island where he had trained as a boy. He tried not to cry, and he tried not to think of his father as a traitor but he couldn't help it. What would he tell his mom? What could he tell Goten? How could he ever look his father in the eye again, knowing that he had cheated on his mother? His father was a hero! He had saved the earth many times and even died for it, how could such a great man have done something so terrible to his own family?

" How could you?!? " The boy cried out to the clouds in the sky. " How could you walk out on us like this? You're a bastard and I hate you Dad! I hate you… you're not even my father anymore! You can't be, because my father was a great man and he loved us. Or at least I thought he did. "

" What's wrong, Gohan? " Asked a gruff voice from behind the boy.

" Nothing. " He lied, but didn't look up at Piccolo, knowing he would start to cry for sure.

" You don't need me to tell you that I know that isn't true, Gohan. " The Namek said, his voice almost soft as he rested a huge hand on the boy's shoulder.

" H-he left us… Piccolo, and he never even said goodbye. "

" Who did? "

" M-my father. " Gohan whimpered, trying desperately not to start crying again.

" Did you ask him why? "

" No. I can't he still sleeping with the bitch he's cheating on my mother with. " Gohan seethed. " I hate him! "

" You're hurt and confused, but you don't hate him, Gohan. Your father is a great man. He's still your father and he won't forget you, or your brother. "

" But it's ok if he leaves my mom? No! It doesn't work that way! I loved him and I trusted him and he thinks he can just leave and pretend that nothing happened? He thinks he can keep pretending that he loves us? No! This entire last year I thought he acted a little weird. Especially when he was gone all night to that party at Master Roshi's last year, you know, she never even got mad about that after we waited up almost all night just to ask him how everybody was! " Gohan growled. " I always thought Vegeta said a Saiyan can't ever cheat on their bond mate! I bet that's just a nice lie he gave Bulma… "

Piccolo shook his head. " This sexual mating business really doesn't interest me, but there is another way to interpret what Vegeta said. "

" What would that be? "

" Ask Vegeta. " The green warrior shrugged. " He is the prince of all Saiyans. If you can't talk to your father you are going to need someone to tell you what is going on. "

" Vegeta hates me… I wonder if I could ask Bulma… "

" Vegeta doesn't hate you. And no matter how intimately connected Bulma is with Vegeta, she won't have the right perspective to know what to tell you about your father. "
