Haunted Past

Chapter 19- Meeting Sora.

Vegeta stared up at the clouds as he stroked his sleeping mate's hair. He looked down at the red-headed woman as she breathed softly against his neck. Her head was resting comfortably against his chest. `It belongs there. She belongs there in my heart.' His eyes focused back on the sky as he felt two kis coming their way. They belonged to Kakarot and someone else.

He slowly wriggled his way out of Athena's grasp and walked towards the front lawn as his rival and the stranger landed. The strange young man pressed his fist to his heart and bowed. "Prince Vegeta, it is an honor."

Vegeta smirked as he looked at the older man. "You see Kakarot? There are some that know how to treat royalty. What's your name boy?"

The young Saiyan stood up straight and looked ahead. "Sora, Prince Sora of New Vegeta-sei."

"There is no New Vegeta-sei! Who are you, really boy? Are you another bastard trying to lure me to my death?" Vegeta moved forward and grabbed the front of the man's armor.

He started to answer before they all heard Athena's voice. "Sora, is that you? What are you doing here?" The man smiled and walked over to hug Athena. She returned his hug almost hesitantly as she awaited his answer.

Sora pulled away from her and glanced at Vegeta. "Mother and Father made their way off of the planet before it blew up. They took me with them and we've lived with a few saiyan survivors on a planet that Mother named New Vegeta. Father died soon after we got there and Mother is not doing so well herself."

Vegeta wrapped his arm possessively around Athena's waist and pulled her close. "Tell me boy…what does this have to do with my mate?" His eyes grew dark as he questioned his new relative.

"What this has to do with my sister…is that she has already been trained and schooled in proper etiquette when it comes to diplomatic matters. My father never saw a reason for me to learn anything but warfare." Sora crossed his arms and stared at the shorter, older man that held his sister. "My mother is dying and New Vegeta-sei needs a new queen. Would you keep her from her birthright Prince Vegeta?"

Vegeta growled in a warning before Athena moved out of his grasp and stared at her brother. "Sora, I have a family here…I have tried to forget what it means to be saiyan royalty…" She started to say she forgot about the male that wished to claim her, but stopped.

Sora seemed to read her mind and nodded. "Unfortunately, your `suitor' Kiro is still alive. I have no doubt in my mind that if you come back, he will wish to battle your mate for your hand." Vegeta growled menacingly and crossed his arms. "I believe you could beat him Prince Vegeta, he is weak compared to even my sister."

It was Athena's turn to growl. "Do not forget, little brother that it is I who taught you how to turn into the legendary. All three of my children can reach the legendary…and I am just as strong as Vegeta. You may be more muscular than I am, but I can still kick your little monkey ass!"

Vegeta smirked at his mate's fire and wrapped his arms around her possessively before resting his head on his shoulder, next to his bite mark. "I don't think this…Kiro will pose a threat to my mate or my children. When do you wish for us to leave?"

Athena glared at her mate before speaking. "Before we do anything…we need to speak with Trunks. You know as well as I that if by some miracle Kiro was to defeat you…he would kill our children to destroy your bloodline Vegeta. I understand that it will need to be done…but I will NOT put Luna, Bardock, and Arion in danger. If Trunks will not watch them…the harpy will." She crossed her arms and glanced at her brother who seemed to be in shock.

Goku's eyes seemed to be as wide as saucers after her sister spoke. Since she had come to Earth, he had only heard her speak with such authority once. "There's so much I didn't know about our race…" He shook his head and grinned, seeming to shake himself out of his stupor. Rubbing the back of his head and replied, "Sure, Chi would love to take care of her nephews and niece."

Athena nodded and took a step away from the three men. "I'm going to call Trunks and see what he says." With that, she walked quickly into the house.

"So tell me boy, this Kiro, is he a challenge or were you trying to make the onna feel better?" Vegeta crossed his now vacant arms and stared into the younger male's eyes. The boy shifted uneasily under Vegeta's steady gaze.

Goku patted his brother's shoulder as if he felt sorry for him. The small gesture, though unwelcome, gave Sora the courage he needed to speak. "Kiro is the best warrior on New Vegeta-sei. He has been in love with my sister since they were children. He will most certainly be a worthy adversary for you." Goku shook his head and walked inside to talk to Athena.

"Thank you so much Trunks, you're a life saver." She smiled as she listened to her step son. "Yes, Vegeta knows…feel free. Tell the brats that we love them. We should either be home or send for them in three weeks time. Goodbye."

Goku walked in and sat down beside her as she hung up the phone. "Athena, may I ask you a question?" Athena nodded and drew her knees closer to her body. "What kind of a fight is this that Vegeta will be involved in?"

Athena studied her nails for a moment before looking up at her older brother. "It's a fight to the death…or until one of the occupants gives up. The winner claims the prize…in this case, it would be me. Any ties to the loser are destroyed…which means my children would be in danger if anything happened to Vegeta. I could refuse his advances…but I have no say whether or not the fight happens." She watched her brother silently for a moment. "Hasn't Vegeta explained anything about our race? What of Saiyago, do you speak none of it?"

Goku shook his head no and shrugged. "I know a little about saiyans. Vegeta tried to teach me Saiyago but I never took an interest. I thought he and I were the only saiyans still alive when he tried to teach me. There wasn't a reason to learn." He looked down at the sleeping Baka. "Athena…when you go to New Vegeta-sei, I want to come with you. Who knows, maybe I'll like it there and I can convince Chi, Goten and Gohan to move there with us after things settle down."

What Athena did next surprised Goku more than he thought it ever would, she hugged him gently and lovingly. "I'd love for you to come with us Goku. We leave tomorrow."
