Chapter 7
Written by: Lady Valtaya

Vegeta felt dazed as he landed in the yard at Capsule Corp. His mother was alive, and another Saiyan was as well? He was sure that the man was Bardock. He had seen a picture with the man's file years ago, during his time with Frieza... It had to be him. Vegeta shook his head as if trying to clear it. He had said that he didn't care... that he didn't want to hear anything about what they wanted or how they had arrived... but he knew that wasn't true. How could they have come... and from where?

Shrugging away his thoughts at least for a moment, he marched straight over to Bulma's room and pounded on the door. He smirked as she gave a muffled scream of rage into her pillow and then pounded on the door harder.

" UHH!! Go away, Vegeta!!! It's 4 in the morning, you bastard! " She screeched, coming closer to the door with every syllable. " I don't care if you don't eat for a week!! Make a sandwich or starve monkey boy! Oh, and before I forget- NO!! I won't fix the damn gravity room either! "

Vegeta laughed as she threw the door open, her silky blue hair was a mess of tangles, and her beautiful white silk negligee seemed to want to slip off of her shoulder as she struggled to find the other end of the tie for her robe.

" Still here? " Bulma growled in mock surprise. " What do you want Vegeta? "

" We have company, woman. " He growled back, but his expression was a smirk.

She gave him a suspicious look then peeked around him to see Goku standing close behind him. Goku smiled good-naturedly.

" Morning Bulma! Mind if we go out in the living room? "
Bulma ducked back behind Vegeta and squealed angrily, trying to shut the door that was blocked by Vegeta's boot.

" Ouch!! Damn you Vegeta!! I'm not exactly dressed for company you know! " He laughed.

" And yet you were dressed enough to open the door for me? I 'm flattered really but do something with your hair before you try that approach again, will you? " Vegeta shut the door just before Bulma began to utter a string of curses that would've made most of Frieza's army blush, and turned around to see Yamcha glaring at him darkly.

" You stay away from Bulma! " Yamcha snarled.

" Or what human? You'll get her to feel sorry for you again? She threw you out again last night, idiot. " Vegeta laughed coldly. " Besides, who says I'd want anything to do with the little weakling? She's the one parading around in a nightgown in front of me. You wouldn't be jealous, would you? "

" Good morning, boys! " Bulma's mother cooed happily as she gently patted Vegeta on the behind as she headed for the kitchen. " My, you boys look ready for action this morning, don't you? Well, I thought I heard someone say something about company! So who wants breakfast? I'll bet you both do, right Vegeta? "

Yamcha couldn't help laughing at the look on Vegeta's face, which was somewhere between embarrassed and bewildered as the Saiyan Prince jumped out of the perky little female's way.

" Low class Baka! " Vegeta grunted under his breath, following the two out of the hall, but then he stopped at the archway that lead into the living room, where he could hear the others... and his mother's voice.

She and the others had started to laugh at something Krillin had just said and he smiled without realizing it. Suddenly he forced the smile from his face. She had always spoken to him kindly and played with him, when he was a child. She had been forced to hide her affection for him when his father was around, but the two had been granted enough time alone that he had gotten very attached to the beautiful woman he still instinctively recognized as his mother. Around him, she tried to act very calmly, and yet always with authority... But Vegeta shook his head, forcing his memories of the past to the back of his mind. The last thing he needed was to get sentimental now! He considered going out to the gravity room to start his training early today, but there was a sharp pain in his chest and he knew he didn't want to leave just yet... If there were two Saiyans still alive, then he had to know... were there others as well?

" Hey Vegeta?? " Goku cried happily waving him over. Vegeta rolled his eyes and stalked into the room. He saw his mother and glared, moving as far toward the opposite end of the room as he could. He would've preferred to listen to what was said from a hidden vantage point, but since his cover was blown before he could find it... It wouldn't look princely for him skulk about now.

" What? "

"W-well... " Goku couldn't help feeling taken aback by the bite carried in that one small word. " This is my father, Vegeta, and he and uh... the Queen came all the way here to find me... " Vegeta didn't want to listen anymore.

" Didn't they just..." He sneered sarcasm fairly dripping from the statement, as he turned to leave.

" My Prince, wait! " Bardock tried to stop him, but Patara put a hand on his arm.

" No." She said quietly. " Let him go. If he's anything like his father, trying to talk to him now will only make him angrier. "

" But I don't understand." Gohan frowned. " What would he be angry about? "Goku sighed and lowered his head.

" Gohan, you know that Vegeta is a prince right? "

" Yeah, but- "

" He's your prince, Gohan and mine, but we fought against him when he came to earth, and then- "

" But dad, we had to! It's not fair that he wanted to destroy the earth! It's our home. We couldn't just let him and that jerk Nappa blow it up or something! " Gohan protested. Bardock smiled absently at the boy he had learned a few minutes ago was his grandson.

" We Saiyans have been a part of the planet trade for so long that we lost sight of a lot of things. We were too concerned with what we could destroy to stop and think about whether we should or not. You were right to defend your home, after all, we are here to try and defend ours. Wouldn't you agree, my Queen? "

**

Patara was nodding, but once again found her mind swimming in all of these questions whose answers only seemed to lead to more questions. Bardock didn't seem surprised to learn that the most powerful Saiyan ever born was apparently defeated by a third class Saiyan who had hit his head as a child and forgotten the warrior he was supposed to be. Goku looked like a Saiyan alright, but he certainly didn't act like one.

Was she dreaming? She had to be dreaming... didn't she? All of this was just too unbelievable to be real. Saiyans who don't act like Saiyans, a planet teeming with life that should've been extinguished and half-Saiyans of all things??... If her son was anything like his father, the prince would be powerful... and skilled- very skilled, he couldn't be beaten by a third class warrior... But then again, she also knew that her husband was overconfident... she had seen the grisly proof of that for herself; it was possible that Vegeta might have gotten that as well as his looks from his father.

Certain traits in the royal line were particularly strong. Power- phenomenal power, ability to learn quickly, and black tempers... that pretty well summed up the royal line, unless one wanted to include the undying belief that they were right no matter what logic could be found to the contrary and having the one ego in the universe that could never be deflated... she growled, forgetting for a moment that she wasn't alone, and that her displeasure would be audible. Oh yes, from what she had seen so far, she would say Vegeta the prince had more than his share of Vegeta the King in him...

**

Bardock nudged the Queen with his elbow and she was glaring as her eyes snapped up to look at him. She almost managed to keep her face as a mask of stone as she saw who had touched her, but for an instant, she had looked a little- well, lost? He sighed. She was probably in shock or something, maybe her son was as well. After all, Vegeta would have been old enough to remember his home planet and in this time, it's destruction. But he knew that the surprise of seeing other Saiyans alive, was not all that had set the prince on edge...

He doubted that Patara had heard much of anything they had said since her son had left, not that he could blame her for that, it wasn't every day that one learned that the son he had let her assume was dead was not only alive but living on a useless planet that was supposed to have been destroyed!

Bardock began to feel relieved taking all of this in, now knew that his visions had been right, until another thought occurred to him, Vegeta had attacked the Earth, and was defeated. Turned back by the last of his own subjects? The humiliation of that would've been hard enough to swallow without adding in that Prince Vegeta had been heralded as 'the one' since- well, the day he was born. Bardock hadn't ever seen the young prince, but everyone knew about his monthly training sessions under Frieza's supervision, which had started at the young age of five. Even then, the Prince was known to have had incredible power and skill. To think his son was strong enough to defeat the prince of all Saiyans... even though Goku had assured him that he hadn't fought the battle alone, it was still enough to leave the scarred Saiyan mystified.

" I don't understand... " The queen said suddenly, drawing Bardock from his thoughts, but when he looked up, she was looking at his son. " If you defeated my son, why is he still alive? "

" What do you mean? " Goku asked and looked genuinely confused.

" She means you would be Prince if you had- " Goku interrupted quickly, shaking his head.

" I didn't really want to fight him at all. I wouldn't have killed him!"

"It would've been your right to do so since he had been the aggressor. It was your right to defend your territory. " Patara assured him, amazed by the innocence of the young warrior who sat before her, he looked mortified.

"You don't understand. " Goku insisted. " If you're disappointed in Vegeta because he lost a fight, you shouldn't be. He was stronger than all of us even before he transformed into his Oorazu form! And even before he did that I was already wondering if we were ever going to beat him... Vegeta has more raw skill and technique than anyone else I've ever seen. I am stronger, but I have to admit, he's a better fighter than me. If Yajurobi hadn't cut off Vegeta's tail, even with Gohan as a giant monkey, we still wouldn't have beaten him! Besides, I've never seen anyone train harder to get what they want, than he does. I did it, and I know he will too. " Goku assured the queen.
Patara and Bardock exchanged glances.

" Do what? "

" Vegeta has set his mind on becoming a Super Saiyan so that when we fight again, he'll win. I don't know if he'll beat me, but I know he will become a Super Saiyan too. "

" W-what do you mean, too? " Bardock asked carefully, trying to make sure he had heard that right. A glance at Patara told him the queen was curious about that statement as well. Goku shrugged, looking a little sheepish.

" Vegeta always told me that I'm a third class fighter and I shouldn't have the gene but when I fought Frieza on Namek I became a Super Saiyan. It was the only way to beat him! Frieza just kept powering up more every time I thought I had him!" The two Saiyans from the past looked at each other and laughed.

" Hey! That's not funny! " Gohan growled. " It's true! My dad is a Super Saiyan and he can prove it too, right dad? "
" Well, yeah, but Gohan-" Goku started to say, but Bulma threw open the door and interrupted with her darkest scowl.

" Alright! " She barked, striding into the room, perfectly dressed for a hot date, if it weren't for the fact that it was only five thirty in the morning. " Where is he? "

" Uh, who are you looking for Bulma? "

" Don't play innocent with me you Goku. Where's the monkey who thought it'd be fun to wake me up at four in the morning and- "

" Uh Bulma, Vegeta's in the Gravity Room training and this is-" Goku tried to direct her attention to the two Saiyans sitting on her sofa, but the little blue haired scientist wasn't paying attention to the contents of her living room.

" Just because Vegeta happens to have a nice body doesn't mean I want him! Oh Please! I mean, hello, he has no personality at all! And can you believe that barbaric little monkey even had the gall to insult my hair?? " She continued to rant, oblivious to the fact that Patara and Bardock were growling savagely as they slowly stood up, intent on ripping Bulma apart. " When was the last time that self absorbed-

" Uh, Bulma- "

"Don't you dare defend that jerk, Goku! This time I'm really going to kill that bastard. "

**

Patara didn't know who or what this little weakling thought she was, but that was definitely the last straw. Her son was Prince of all Saiyans, and she wasn't about to let this little witch get away with insulting him, and their whole race that way, for that matter! It was an outrage that Goku would let her talk to him that way as well, but he would see the loud, very opinionated little blue haired twit bloody and broken at her feet before she would remind Goku that he shouldn't let his pet talk to him that way! Any threat on Vegeta's life was punishable by a slow, torturous death, and it was time that someone reminded her that she ought to respect her betters.

**

Bardock also found that he bristled instinctively at the insults to the Prince, but was most aggravated by the repeated use of the word monkey. Beside him, he could feel the Queen's building rage and smirked, it was overkill, but the weakling had left them with no choice.

**

Goku had tried to stop Bulma from making the two already edgy Saiyans angry, but he growled, knowing he would have to stop them now to save her life. He used the anger he would feel if Bulma was to get hurt, and let the golden aura of the Super Saiyan envelope him as he put himself between the irritated human and the two angry Saiyans.

" Damn it, Bulma, Shut up! They think you're insulting them! "
Patara and Bardock never realized Goku had moved between them and the startled weakling female, until their scouters exploded. And when they looked at him, they were both suddenly speechless and dazed. The object of their anger was completely forgotten as they both stared in shock at the legendary warrior before them.

" You-you ARE a Super Saiyan? " They gasped out almost in unison, an instant before darkness engulfed them.
