Dragon Ball/Z/GT Fan Fiction ❯ Inadequate ❯ Chapter Thirteen: ( Chapter 13 )
"Why did you do that?" Goten said yelling after Spyre after the meeting had dispersed.
"Because you need to test your skills some time. If all of those men come back alive we will continue." He said walking faster down the lane. Goten growled and grabbed his captains shoulder, jerking him around.
"You're going to gamble their lives on my skill." Goten roared furiously.
"Don't question me, it's how things work here." Goten was silent at this comment.
"Go with the group, no complaining." Spyre said in a dangerously low voice. Goten backed off at the tone of his voice.
"I'm not even done with my training." Goten said quietly to himself as Spyre walked off in a huff.
"Hey, guy?" A man said shakily as he touched the shoulder of Goten's black training clothes.
"Yeah?" Goten said turning to face him with a slight scowl of antipathy. The man shifted from foot to foot and rubbed the back of his head nervously.
"Well the scouting party is leaving soon and well they want you to meet them at the front gate." The messenger turned and walked off. Goten was amazed at how young that boy had to be. He was at most 14 years old.
"This place is horrible." Goten muttered as he shuffled himself through the camp to the front gate. Goten watched as they threw supplies into primitive sacks. They threw in food and medical supplies for the journey ahead. Goten had managed to wrestle the map for the groups grasped and glared at it. They were going to be marching mere meters away from the camp. Even the slightest noise at that spot could get them killed. From the looks of the route Goten was going to be gone for quite awhile, At least a week. The workmen tied the last of the sacks shut and Goten slung two over his shoulder. Goten and about 4 other people marched up a steep hill towards a forest. Near the edge of the forest a few of the men started to glance back at the camp and the people within it. Goten however had no one in there to look back to, he kept on his walking with the leader who seemed quiet apprehensive about this whole thing. The hours of marching and following the map went on. At times people would make conversation among the group. It never really lasted long, since they were scouters. In training Goten had learned that on scouting missions you were supposed to be dead quiet. Night and days passed and Goten continued to remain quiet. The leader in the group who Goten had now taken up habit of walking next to let out a shaky breath. His finger traced the map to a point that was very close to their scouting position.
"Just around that ridge I reckon. We should have a pretty clear view from there." The leader folded the map with quivering hands and picked up the sacks he was carrying. The group cautiously rounded the curve and peaked their head through small clearings in the bush. Sure enough there it was, instead of tents there was several large spaceships witch dotted the space. Men outside them jogged and marched around the campus making the grass that was once their fade away.
"What do we do?" one of the men whispered, popping his head back from the hole in the brush.
"Be quiet and look for anything suspicious." The leader whispered harshly to him. Goten sat cross-legged and observed them. He soon found this task tedious and started to lull off into a dreary sleep. In his dreams Goten found himself at that day in the buu' saga when he trained with his brother. He had been so close to being more powerful than him when he went Super Saiyan, but that had slipped through his fingers. Goten sulked as he watched that dream. It was like he was watching his life in TV show form in his head.
"WAKE UP!" Something yelled at him making him snap awake. Goten stared into the darkness. He saw nothing; no one was even awake to yell anything. He looked at the dark spots of the shaded night. Some one was there, he could sense him. He was strong as well. Goten got to his feet and saw the brush rustle. Something had shot into the clearing in immense speed. It headed towards the ships. Goten had finally realized what it was. The scouting team had been found. Goten panicked and started to wake his comrades. The lights on the outside of the ship shot on and men started to file out from the ships' bowels. The other men awoke in a daze and glanced outside at the ships. That was all they needed to get initiative. They saw several of the aliens running at their position. The scouting crew ran off down the path they had came from. Goten grabbed a few of the bags that littered the area and quickly caught up with them. Goten could hear the steps of the hybrids gaining on them.
"Go hurry to camp I will…uh catch up!" Goten gallantly drew his swords and waited for the hybrids to come up the path. He didn't have to wait long. They looked pumped with fury. Goten deflected the ki blasts they shot at him with his sword and shot a few back. While they were stunned by his blasts he rushed forward and sank his sword into the shoulder of one of the men. Once it was imbedded in his shoulder Goten jerked the blade in a circle leaving a thick gutted hole in the hybrids chest. Another came up the path. Goten didn't wait for him to make an attack he plunged his blade straight through the hybrids armor and into his heart. He didn't see any more hybrids on the path, but he sensed them around. Goten flew high above the branched and flew downward with his blade in front of him when he found an alien ki energy. The blade sunk into the hybrids skull and Goten flipped backwards ripping the blade out. The force of the jerk had sent splatters of the hybrids blood to speckle Goten's face. He growled as he started to get caught in the moment. He spent the good part of a hour hunting down the hybrids that were tracking his crew and slaughtering them. Goten stood on a tree branch and chewed on his lip as the last perusing hybrid passed him. Goten lunged out and thrust the blade into the back of the hybrid's supple neck. Goten huffed and started to laugh. Blood and sweat had mixed on his body and started to drip off him every so often. Goten glided through the forest to where the crew was. They were still moving though not in a panicked run like before. Goten's senses were so clogged with the scent of sweat and blood he didn't even noticed the tang of smoke in the air.
