Chapter 10 - No Reason To Live On
As Bulma walked back to her room, she sighed deeply. She really missed Goku and her friends. It had only been a few months. She wondered if they had looked for the Dragonballs without her, if they had tried to wish her back. Why hadn't they wished her back? She felt a bit peeved. She turned the corner and almost bumped into Vegeta, who was leaning against the wall.
She blushed and didn't know quite what to say.
“Hello…Vegeta.” She managed. He just looked at her, no reconition sparked on his features, he just looked at her blankly and a tad annoyed.
“Are you ok?” she asked nervously, not quite wanting to look him in the eye. For she knew, if she did, she would be lost.
“Why wouldn't I be onna? Leave me in peace” he snapped and turned away from her. She frowned and stepped by him and started to walk away, then paused and turned around.
“I have to ask, why? Why did you…do that?” she spoke quietly, from fear somebody would hear, though most were still busy in the First Aid room.
“Why did I what? Make the worst decision of my life?” he sighed, and gave her a hateful look.
She gave a laugh, short and harsh. “Well, if it means anything to you, it was quite bad, I've had so much better” she retorted, it wasn't necessarily true, but she felt like she needed to give him what-for.
“So have I” he said loudly and heatedly. She gave a small smile to herself. `Ah, I struck a nerve. I bet that was his first kiss. Pretty good if it was though' she thought.
“Really now? Was it Nappa?” she smirked, it had suddenly occurred to her, she was skating on thin ice, just because he had kissed didn't mean he wouldn't rip her apart, but having not much to live for as she doubted she would ever return to her friends and home, she continued.
He took a step towards her and she flinched. “Do you want to die?” he almost shouted.
“Yes” she said calmly. “Yes, I do” .
He paused, he had not heard that reply before, unless he was torturing somebody, but that was different.
“Why?” he asked, crossing his arms and frowning. He wanted to live to defeat Fureiza and become the legendary Super Saiya-jin. She should want to live on to see him accomplish that.
“What have I got to live for?” she asked, her voice quiet and full of resign.
He said nothing. Although there was noise in the background, the silence between them seemed to engulf all.
“What can I do? At least you have a shot at defeating…I'm nothing. I used to have a reason to live, I used to care. But guess what, my friends are millions of miles away, so is my home and family. I'll never see them again. I work for a creature of pure evil, I actually aid him in killing innocent people. I'm alone.” She told him, she refused to cry in front of him, so she just sniffed a lot.
“I have no friends, my family is dead, my planet was destroyed. I'm a Prince and yet I take orders from Fureiza like a low class peasant. And yet, I want to keep living. So I can rectify or avenge that. Besides, whatever doesn't kill me, makes me stronger.” He told her, and turned from her with disgust on his face. He looked upon her weakness and resignation with hatred. How could a creature which had demonstrated such bravery, act so pitiful.
“One day, you'll get killed. What have you got to show for your life? What have you done to ensure the legacy of your race continues?” she challenged him, on the verge of grabbing his arm, but not quite daring to.
He said nothing, but that said a lot. He turned from her and stormed away. Bulma bit her lip, she regretted being so honest and up front to him, when he was the closest thing to an ally she had on this ship. She suddenly felt the need to feel the wind on her face, breath fresh air, eat something sweet and have a long hot bath. Just to drift off and forget her situation. She trudged back to her room for what felt the millioneth time.
