Chapter 23 - A Love Worth Dying For?
Bulma checked the time on her watch, and looked around and saw nobody. It was the opportunity she had waited almost a year for. She ran from her hiding place and opened the door to a pod, and just as she put one foot inside, she heard a noise and turned around. She saw Fureiza, Zarbon, Dodoria, Nappa, Vegeta and Raditzu walk into the docking area. She froze and then almost laughed. The bad timing was almost comical, yet she knew she was about to die. Which somehow, just made it funnier. She looked at them, and for a second thought Vegeta had told them, given her away, before she realised he looked as shocked as she did, and she hadn't told him that she was going.
"What's this? Leaving without saying 'goodbye'? Not even to the man you love?" Dodoria sneered at her, wondering how this baka onna could have got so far into the leaving. He wondered if Vegeta could have aided her, until he saw the look in Vegetas eyes, which was almost hurt, as if he was sad she didn't say goodbye to him before she left. Which made it far more delicious.
"Man she loves?!" exclaimed Nappa predictably. Zarbon grinned and walked over to Bulma, and hauled her back into the docking port and tossed her to the ground. She let out a short cry and struggled to stand up, but Zarbon knocked her back down again.
"Oh yes, had the two of you not realised? Vegeta has decided to take a Queen." Dodoria laughed and clapped Vegeta on the shoulder in a mock sarcastic way. "Though, what more could you expect from a monkey?" mocked Zarbon. Nappa and Raditzu looked at Vegeta who was standing proudly, but not looking at them, or anyone. He seemed to be staring off into the distance.
"Now now, whatever Vegeta does in his life is his business, but since his life is owned by me, it subsequently makes it my business. It matters not, if he feels he must lower himself to this degree with such a female, then so be it. But this new piece of news makes the new mission all the more . . . appropriate. I want the 3 of you to go to Chikyuu to retrieve Kakarotto, and while there kill his friends and family but before you kill them, meantion the little affair between their dear friend and their murderer. Also, I seem to remember a man-" here Fureiza picked up Bulma's bag from the floor and delved his claw inside, and came up with the picture. "-who appears to be Miss Bulmas' boyfriend, don't forget to tell him. In fact, take him hostage with Kakarotto, I want to see his face! It should prove small amusement while I wait for Universe Domination."
Nappa and Raditzu looked from Bulma to Vegeta is wonderment and disgust. Nappa shook his head, not believing it to be true, and Raditzu glared at Fureiza and his henchmen, as if they had made it up.
"Tell us Prince Vegeta, are these allegations true? They have no proof! Is this true?" they asked him repeatedly. Bulma looked at the floor, wishing that she could be at home and not here, in this situation.
"Do you...love her?" Raditzu asked after a short pause. The question hung in the heavy air, unanswered and unbidden. Bulma grasped some solace that he hadn't said no. They all took this pause to be an affirmation to the question.
"Of course not. I am the Prince of Saiya-jins. How could I love such a weakling?" he scoffed after a few minutes, although they doubted him for the first time, due to his hesitation in answering.
"But you did...do..." asked Nappa, not wanting to say it because he thought it was too intrusive and wrong to even think it. He had taken advantage of many alien women but this was different. He was their Prince, and this wasn't the case of him killing her afterwards and he had no idea how long the liason had lasted.
"No." Bulma said. She felt she had to help Vegeta out, who, for once in his life, was having trouble talking. She felt if she was the one who deny it, it would make it more solid.
"Who asked you?" Dodoria turned and spat at her. He was enjoying the dissention in the Saiya-jin ranks much more than having this creature interrupt.
"Nobody did, but I thought i might have some input. You really think royalty would take two glances at me? You compliment me, kisama baka. Now, if you would all be so kind as to leave now, I am sure that-" but before she could continue Dodoria backhanded her across the face and she fell to the ground and lay still.
"Despite your onna's best attempts, its fruitless. We know about all the . . . 'encounters'. Now, how best to deal with this, Lord?" Dodoria asked Fureiza, licking his scabbed lips in anticipation. Vegeta stood there, not looking at them or her, just looking far off through a window into the vastness of the galaxy, looking as if he wanted to kill them all right there and then.
"No, Vegeta, tell them it isn't so. Tell them that you would rather die than touch a woman like that!" Raditzu implored his leader. This was so unexpected to him. For him to become so weak willed, and possibly fallen in love with such a rude, weak woman? Vegeta was the embodiment of a perfect Saiya-jin as far as Nappa and Raditzu were concerned, he was strong, killed without thought and kept the pride of a warrior race alive, but for such a Saiya-jin to care for a woman? It made no sense to them.
"I already told you it isn't true!" Bulma said in desperation, for her own sake and his. Dodoria turned to her with a look of pure annoyance on his face.
"You don't know when to keep your mouth shut do you? It's already obvious it is true, did you think we hadn't noticed the mark on your neck?" he said, half amazed at her insolence and half annoyed at her in general.
"I know when to keep my mouth shut, this is not one of those times. The scar was made when I was inventing, nothing more. I may not have my freedom, but at least give me freedom of speech?" she asked, feeling she could say anything, for she had nothing left to lose. Dodoria said nothing but grabbed her arm and hauled her up and held her in front of Vegeta, her face contorted in pain.
"Save her. She needs you. Admit it, or I'll kill her right here and, no wait, if you don't admit it, you will have no worry about killing her yourself, will you?" Fureiza said finally, after she had hung there trying to stay silent for what seemed like an eternity.
"I will not save her, but neither will I kill her. She poses no threat and does not need to die." he said finally, which lead Nappa and Raditzu to just stare at him in disbelief. This disobeyment of killing was proof in their minds.
"Why?" they asked, anger in their eyes but disappointment on their faces. "Are we meant to take her as our Queen? You know the rules, the King should not be so liberal with his....seed..." somehow the words were troubling Nappa because he had know Vegeta from infancy.
Dodoria dropped her at his feet, but he didn't look down at her, and she didn't look up to him. She froze, and she could almost hear his heart beating.
"Now what is all this about, have you had an arguement?" mocked Dodoria and he and Zarbon laughed. Fureiza halted their laughter by raising his hand and standing it. Zarbon bent down and hissed in her ear; "He didn't care enough about you to mark you as his own, he must value you are nothing but a low class whore who happened to -"
"This has gone on too long. That is enough mocking. I see only one solution to this. The woman dies and this matter is never spoken of again, but Vegeta must be the one to kill her." Fureiza concluded. Bulma, realising that either way she was not going to die, and decided that she would at least say her goodbye properly. She quickly dug in her bag and glasped the Dragon Radar and stood up to face Vegeta and said hurriedly.
"Chikyuu. Find Goku-Kakarotto and explain what happened. Give him this, he will understand. I trust you, Vegeta." she pressed the device into his hand and closed her eyes and waited for him to kill her, but when nothing happened, she opened her eyes to see him staring at the device in his hand, and the others stood around with baited breath. If they breathed at all.
"Well, are you going to kill her or not?" Nappa asked, clenching his fists in anger. They all stared at Vegeta, waiting for him to kill her.
"Not. I could, so easily, but I won't. I won't kill her, she is...I.." he closed his eyes. Bulmas heart soared, it was as if he had just taken her in his arms and told her that he loved her by biting her neck. She smiled, and heard laughing. The laughing was not her, it was Dodoria and Zarbon, they saw what was going to happen next. Fureiza walked swiftly forward and put his hand on her head, just as Vegeta realised what he was about to do, he flicked his wrist and with a loud and low crack, her neck snapped and her lifeless body slumped forward into Vegeta.
