Chapter 1:
The Planet of Zunic

“Landing procedures activated…testing atmosphere for life supporting molecules… … … testing complete. Infant number 0138301 prepare for landing. Mission briefing: destroy all life forms on the planet of Zunic and await pickup. Good luck Raditz.”

Far below the atmosphere an unsuspecting planet thrived with life, full of lush vegetation, purple trees that towered far above the rich red soil, and creatures scuttling about the forest floors. The Zunicians, large broad shouldered creatures, went about their daily lives of hunting and gathering in order to feed their small community. All of a sudden the sound of an explosion ripped through the still night air, sending the creatures of the forest scattering in confusion and fear. Zunicians raised their heads in the direction of the blast for a brief minute before dashing into the forest, each armed with spears and knives forged from stone to protect themselves from what seemed to them to be a threat.

As they neared the source of the disturbance, trees and bushes lay in ruins, blown down by the impact of the blast. Soon after a while of running, they halted at the edge of a deep crater, and at the center of it, a single round space pod. While they pondered the nature of the small, metallic object, the pod opened up slowly with a low hiss, and hibernation gas shot up into the air, sending some of the smaller Zunicians cowering in fear. From within the pod, the cries of an infant could be heard…

“Lieutenant Nappa” a red haired Saiyan called out from behind a metal door.

On the other side of the door, Nappa had two Saiyan women pinned down to his bed. “Dammit, now of all times?!” he sighed before releasing them. They darted out of the room quickly, and slammed into the tall, broad shouldered soldier standing on the other side.
“Get up, brat” Nappa said tersely, with both arms folded over his chest. “Great, of all the spineless half wits in Lord Vegeta's kingdom, it has to be you to interrupt my fun time, Bakli!”

Bakli bowed deeply, trying to hide his obvious disgust. “I bring word from Lord Vegeta…he requests your audience at once.”

Nappa's scowl deepened. “Judging from the mood of the king as of late, he must have had a visit from that bastard Tsurian, Freiza.” After he shook the thoughts of his distressed king from his mind he now focused on the palace guard in front of him. “You just can't stop bringing me bad news, can you, useless whelp?!” he growled with feral temperament. Bakli stared up at the taller Nappa, almost able to look him in the eye. “Don't shoot the messenger, Dad” he spat before spinning on his heel and walking away. Nappa snarled as his son walked down the corridor. “How many times do I have to tell you to stop calling me that?” he said with disgust so powerful, it made Bakli stagger with rage, but he immediately righted himself and turned the corner of the corridor and disappeared.
Nappa donned his armor and stormed down the hall. “Damn, this hurts already” he muttered to himself as he stepped over bodies of soldiers that had been flung out of the throne room, smoldering with the sizzling stench of ki energy.

Freiza sat in his usual seat, watching the beautiful planet of Vegetasei from the main window of his spaceship which floated in Vegetasei's orbit. He marveled at the resilience of the Saiyan Race, whom Freiza had done all in his power to exterminate. To him, they were an eyesore, a blemish upon his father's vast empire. Their Belligerence was unrivaled, not by any race he had come across in the entire universe. Many times did he appeal to his father for their destruction, and he would have been more than happy to be the one to strike them down, but over and over King Cold had insisted on keeping them alive since it was “good for business”. A blue skinned and strikingly handsome alien stood at Freiza's right hand, waiting on his next order.

“In about 3 cycles from now, a tournament is going to be held on this despicable planet” Freiza noted to himself in disgust. “And even worse, that overgrown ape King Vegeta wants my elites to participate in such barbarism?!” The blue alien didn't know whether or not Freiza was addressing him or talking to himself as he often did when lost in thought. He was about to answer his sire when Freiza cut him off.

“Zarbon, head to the barracks and summon Dodoria. Have him assemble some elites and have them properly trained for tournament style combat. Be careful they don't overdo it while humiliating the monkeys” he said with disgust. “Unfortunately for us, it seems that killing the monkeys would violate our peace and trade treaties between my father and King Vegeta.”

“Right away, sire” Zarbon said, bowing and turning for the door. As he approached the cabin door, Freiza turned to Zarbon.

“There's one more thing” he said quietly, as if he were whispering. “Have the analysts on-board run a power level test on the adult elite Saiyans. I'm curious to know how they develop.”

Zarbon smirked to himself. “Funny how he's let those monkeys get to him” He thought to himself. Bowing deeply once more, Zarbon stepped out of Freiza's quarters to attend to his tasks. Freiza turned his icy gaze back upon the planet of Vegeta, lost in his daydreams of one day ridding himself of the
barbaric Saiyans once and for all.

The infant cried helplessly trapped within a transparent bubble, which was within the space pod that fell from the sky. One of the Zunicians, a broad chested creature bearing a spear in one hand, slid down the side of the crater, down to where the pod lay. The other Zunicians backed off, some grunting and wailing in some strange language almost as if warning the bigger Zunician to back off. Suddenly the smaller bubble which held the infant suddenly lifted out of the pod, emitting a loud hiss and a cloud of steam which sent the smaller Zunicians scurrying for shelter. The large Zunician, startled by the sudden alarm, hurled his spear at the bubble in self defense. The spear broke in two without putting a single dent or scratch on the bubble.
The infant opened his eyes at the sudden sound of the spear hitting the protective bubble. Looking around in alarm, his eyes caught a large, purple sphere floating in a sea of darkness, surrounded by tiny white dots. The purple sphere filled the infant with an eerie calm that silenced his crying almost immediately. Then the sound of bones and joints popping filled the night air as the small bubble began to fill with a thick mass of black hair until the bubble burst open, revealing a half mutated beast, still in the process of transformation from a helpless infant to a ferocious beast. Within moments, the broad Zunician stood face to face with what would soon be the destruction of all it knew. A giant, monkey like creature towered over him, growling its rage. Without warning, the creature swept the large Zunician in a single palm and brought him crashing to the ground below, filling the air with the sick sound of bones being crushed and flesh tearing apart by the sheer force of the impact. The beast raised its head to the sky, releasing an ear splitting roar, which shook the ground with its fury as well as all who heard its cry.
