Revolution of the Saiyans

Chapter Eighteen

As Vegeta and Kelon made their way out, Niekko made an announcement to the people below.

"We are now on red alert!" He shouted. "Soldiers, prepare for impending battle!" Then, the older Saiyan turned and followed his leader.

Kelon grabbed Cierra's arm and pulled her along. "Show us your proof." He demanded, hoping that he had not promoted a young and immature idiot to this all-important position of Communications Commander. But, for some reason, he had a soft spot for the third class female.

Cierra nodded and continued back down the long hallways, retracing her earlier steps. Once in the communications area, she pointed to the screen. "Here." She said. "The ship is about four hundred yards from the docking bay." She noticed it now seemed to be engaged for flight. "Sir, the engines are on. That ship is about to leave the planet."

"DAMN!" Kelon said, snarling. "We must stop it! If Drais manages to escape, he might never be found!"

They all turned around and ran down the hallways and to the nearest exit. Cierra ran behind them, every intention of following and helping in the fight. After all, it was because of her dedication that this threat had been uncovered. But, as everyone else flew away, she stopped.

Glancing around, she wondered where that other soldier had gone. Something in the pit of her gut told her to find out.

"Shit!" She said, deciding to lose her one chance of fighting and proving her self as a warrior. Instead, she hurried down the hallway and rounded the same corner as before. This time, there was no one there. She looked up and down the hallway, which split into two directions. One was the way she had gone, toward the main area of the castle and the royal quarters. The other way lead to the docking bay, weapons area and slave facilities. If the soldier had not followed her toward the royal quarters, then he must have went the other way.

Again, her heels clicked loudly as she hurried down the second path. Immediately, Cierra noticed how quiet it was. Normally, the slaves, who were to be sold within the next few weeks, made quite a bit of noise. Cierra slowed down. Instead of the rapid clicking noise of her boots, there was now only a steady rhythm as she walked more slowly and carefully.

She decided to check the slave area first. Cierra entered the code for the steel door, and it opened with a loud swooshing noise. Inside it was unusually dark, and still, deathly quiet. Reaching her hand in, she found the light control and flipped the switch.

Cierra screamed.

Vegeta stubbornly led the way, against General Kelon's wishes. "Sir, we are here to protect you at all costs!" He had insisted.

But Vegeta was determined to lead is own destiny. "I follow behind no one!"

Now, with what were considered the finest Saiyan soldiers at his side, Vegeta flew hurriedly toward the location of the ship. The Elite forces were quiet, not certain as to what to think of their new King. Never had they seen such bravery in their previous leader. Or, could it be stupidity?

As they arrived at the site, the surrounding area was quiet and there seemed to be no one around.

"I don't see anything." Domia said quietly. "Perhaps we are too late."

Vegeta was silent, his black eyes darting around.

Suddenly, the ground seemed to open up beneath them. They took to the air to keep from falling into the dirt.

It was the ship. It broke free of an underground area and shot into the sky. Its speed was much to fast for Vegeta or the fighters to catch up to.

Vegeta cursed loudly and continued to follow, but as the ship left the planet's atmosphere, he was forced to turn back.

"DAMN!" Vegeta screamed, his anger boiling past any reasonable levels. He transformed into his Super Saiyan form, unable to control himself.

Having only seen this amazing feat once before, each one of the soldiers watched intensely. "Sir, we need to prepare a ship and follow." Kelon said, trying to calm his awe.

Vegeta turned around and glared. "THEN DO IT!"

Looking down on the floor, Cierra saw the puddles of blood and jumped back as she realized she was standing in one.

Nothing but bodies. Most of them beyond recognition, having been blasted to pieces. It took all of her resolve to keep from vomiting. Unable to look any more, she turned and hurried to the weapons area, leaving bloody footprints behind as she walked.

Immediately, she knew that an enormous amount of their weapons were gone. How many, she couldn't tell for sure. Next, she ran to the docking bay. Here, the fleet of ships seemed to be unharmed. The bay itself was full; housing about fifty ships and pods. Cierra walked around carefully, ready to fight if necessary. As she glanced around, she saw nothing, which made her more uncomfortable.

Nothing.

Then, she heard the sound of a ship overhead. Right away, she knew that the warriors had been too late.

Drais was gone.

Cierra knew Kelon would be preparing to follow, and fight. Hoping that it would be her opportunity to aid him, to show that she could be a warrior as well, she found the biggest and fastest ship. Opening the door, she hurried inside and prepared the engines.

"This time, I won't let you leave me behind." She said determined. Cierra knew there was one spot on the Elite forces, and she wanted it.

She opened up communications as she prepped the ship. "This is Cierra." She said over the airwaves. Hoping that since a red alert had been issued, the communications room would be fully staffed again. "I am preparing a ship for Kelon. I need staff in the docking bay immediately. Servants as well. I'm sure our new King will be boarding this trip." She could tell Vegeta was not one to stand around aimlessly.

Her request was put on priority status. Within moments, she heard several soldiers and servants boarding the ship behind her. "Commander." One of the soldiers said. "We are now fully prepared."

"Good." Cierra said, moving from her seat and allowing the true flight staff the access they needed. "I have pinpointed the location of the rebel ship on the radar. General Kelon and the other will be in that vicinity."

"Right." The young pilot, Kado replied. He started the engines, full throttle and opened up the overhead latch of the bay. Slowly, the massive ship flew upwards and out.
