Chapter 4

The next day at school things went on as normal until lunch. Lunch, the time of the day when anything can happen. Chi chi was sitting with Krillin as they talked over lunch. As they talked Vegeta and his crew walked by. Turles grinned devilishly when he saw Krillin. "Hey 18 want some pay back?" He asked motioning to Krillin. When 18 saw Krillin she frowned.

No one knew, but 18 had once gone to the same Martial Arts school as Krillin and Chi chi. They had all been best friends once. 18 was a star student and she had always had a a crush on Krillin ever since they were little, but 18 had a temper and she was hard pressed to control it. One day she flipped out on a guy at school just because he called her a name. She broke his arm for it and Master Roshi wouldn't allow her back in the dojo after that. He told her, 'Until you have self control, I will not teach you.' She remembered the humilation, the pain that caused her had never healed. In retalliation for being expelled she became a bully. Her pride, temper, and stubborness wouldn't allow her to forgive Master Roshi, thusly she had been a bully for five years. Krillin and Chi chi were ashamed of her behavior as well and their friendship had been instantly dissolved.
She still held a torch for Krillin, so everytime Krillin saw her being mean and taunted her, her well built punk attitude disappeared.

She hesitated and then said, "Nerdo's not worth my time." She said shrugging her shoulders as she turned to walk away.

Turles stopped her. "Why do you always let baldy get away with his insults?"

"Just lay off!" 18 snapped.

Turles frowned at her as she stomped away then he whispered to himself, "What is she hiding?"

The lunch hour was slowly coming to a close and Chi chi headed to her locker. Little did she know she was being watched. "Go ahead Goku." His friends taunted. "Go work your magic." They patted him on the shoulder and walked off smirking as they left him. He took a deep breath and walked after Chi chi. "Here goes."

She was going through the books in her locker when she saw a hand land on the locker next to hers. Her vision followed the arm connected to the hand until she turned to see Goku smiling at her. She instantly froze and dropped the book in her hand. It hit the ground with a large thud causing her to snap out of her shock. He leaned over to pick up the book and she could do nothing but stare at his tightly corded muscles as they flexed with his movement. She swallowed hard as he came back up and gave a light chuckle. "How come everytime I see you, you drop something?"

She let out a nervous laugh as her faced turned a bright shade of red and she looked away.

He leaned his weigh on the locker and fidgeted, slightly nervous himself. "I saw you training yesterday." He said. Her head shot up and she stared at him. Hardly anyone outside of her clique knew she was a martial artist and she was afraid if anyone knew, it would just be another thing they would pick on her for.

"You...did..." She stuttered.

"Yeah, you're really good." His brillant smile instantly made her weak in the knees.

Her reply was instant gratification for Goku. She allowed a smile to cross her face that was so bright it shamed the sun and he felt his heart skip a beat. "Thank you." She whispered, her eyes downcast.

There was an awkward silence between them for a few moments before Goku spoke, "So how would you like to go out with me tomorrow night?"

Chi chi's heart stopped and the whole world disappeared as the only thing she could hear was her blood pumping in her ears. "Really?" She asked nervously.

"Yeah. Do you like Italian?" He asked still smiling. He had to laugh at how shy they both were about this.

"Yes. I love Italian...I'd love to." She stuttered feeling giddy.

"How about seven?" She nodded shyly. She was captivated by his smile and they stood awkwardly for a minute before she realized he'd need her address. She grabbed a sticky note out of her locker and grabbed a pen quickly jotting down the address. She held it out for him to take and he grabbed her hand holding it gently as he took the note out. His touch was so soft and gentle yet so strong, she felt a shiver go up her spine. Before he let go he kissed her hand and smiled. "Till then." He whispered before walking triumphantly away.

As she watched him go she melted against the locker. Her whole body was on fire. She felt like she wanted to scream out her joy to the world, but instead she just burst into a grin as she closed her locker and skipped down the hall way.

Goku met up with his friends after school for practice. "So how'd it go?" They asked.

He grinned happily. "We're going out tomorrow night."

They all laughed and congratulated him. "Way to go, but, remember the dare was to lay her not to date her." Goku frowned, he was so happy to be going on a date with Chi chi he had forgotten about that part of the dare. He nodded solemnly in reply. After talking to Chi chi he had been entranced by her smile and the rare purity her entire body extricated. He had been looking forward to the date, but now he felt like it was a bad idea.

Chi chi bounced along the street with Krillin as they headed to the park to train. "Why are you so happy?" Krillin asked curiously.

Chi chi giggled and spun around to face him. "Goku asked me out on a date!" She practically shrieked in excitement.

Krillin was surprised at her news and he shook his head. "You really accepted a date with that hard headed excuse for a student?"

"Yes!" Chi chi said defensively. "He was very sincere about it."

"Yeah right that guy has probably had dates with every girl in the Prep crowd and then some. Why would he suddenly want to go out with you?"

Chi chi felt offended that Krillin didn't think her good enough to get a date with a Prep. "For your information he thinks that my being a martial artist is very impressive."

Krillin rolled his eyes. "Sure, sure, fine, but be careful Chi chi I don't want my favorite sparring partner to be heartbroken."

A small smile crossed her features at how much he cared about her. "Thanks, but I'm a big girl I can handle anything."

"Accept cute boys." Krillin taunted.

"Krillin!" She shouted back handing him and he just laughed.
