Sacrificing Love
Chapter Twelve: Ready for Battle
Bulma carried the crate of her creations to Vegeta's door. She had filled it after her conversation with Kakarrot. Was he going to help with the defeat of Frieza? She hoped so. With two of the best warriors in the universe, Frieza would be easier to kill.
Bulma felt a surge of pride, knowing that she was going to be helping Vegeta-sei, and that she had proved that she could. She didn't want to see the planet destroyed, and she was glad that she was part of the plan. Bulma wondered when it was going to go underway.
She gently knocked on the door. "What do you want?!?" she heard Vegeta yell. It brought a smile to her lips, even though she had no idea why. Bulma turned the knob of the door.
Vegeta looked up to see the comely face of all of his thoughts. He was sitting on the bed, his black eyes studying her, as if he didn't believe that she was really there.
"Here are the anti-shock devices you wanted," Bulma said, dropping the crate next to him on the bed. "I've made more than you asked, in case anything happens and you need some more of them." She looked at him. He was shirtless, his broad chest tempting her senses. Kami, he was beautiful. He had that certain air about him, the kind that would either make one run from him, or the kind that made one incredibly attracted to him. Gods, how she was attracted to him. She placed a clamp on that thought. They had already talked about that, about what would be of their relationship, and they both knew that nothing could happen between them.
Vegeta reached into the box and took one of the round objects. "Are you certain that these will work?"
Bulma frowned at him. "What? You already know that they'll work!"
He smiled at her anger. She looked so lovely when she was angry. It had a way of deepening the color of her cheeks to a light blush, making her aquamarine eyes appear to turn into two sapphires. And then her temper would rise. She was the only being that he had ever met that could match his own temper. "I have never witnessed these things absorb any kind of energy."
"Your asking for a test?" Bulma's eyes flared. "Alright." She snatched the absorber from him and walked across the room. "Shoot."
"You want me to blast you?" Vegeta asked skeptically.
"You said you wanted a test."
"But, what if it doesn't work?"
"Then I'll be dead." Bulma said. "I happen to stand by all of my creations with total faith, and if it doesn't work, then I deserve my fate. But I believe that it'll work. So should you. Now shoot."
"Alright." Vegeta rose a hand and formed a ball of ki. He lauched it at her and watched it dissipate with awe.
Bulma released the breath that she didn't know she was holding in. It worked. However, she didn't allow the surprise to cross her expression. "So, now do you believe it?"
"Of course, I do, woman." He walked to her and held out his hand to take it back.
"Don't have so little faith in me, Vegeta-ouji," Bulma said as she placed the device in his hand. His touch sent sparks darting up her spine, and liquid silver swirling in her stomach. Their touch lasted several seconds until Bulma closed the distance between them and touched her lips to his.
His arm became possessed. It pulled her closer to him so he could taste her fully. She was so sweet, like a fine wine that he couldn't get enough of-and he had been craving that taste for all of the days that she had driven him near insanity, conquering his mind. How could he have denied himself of this for so long? He didn't have time to answer that question, since they were interrupted by the jerk of the door, revealing a panicked Kakarrot.
Kakarrot stared for a couple of seconds before he spoke. "Frieza's coming! He knows about the devices!"
Vegeta ripped Bulma away from him. She stumbled before catching her balance. "What?!?" Vegeta demanded. "How would he know about them? My own father does not even know about them."
Kakarrot shook his head. "I don't know, but there was a transmission that was picked up by the hanger's transmitters. They announced that Frieza is heading for the palace even as we speak."
Vegeta crossed the room and tossed Kakarrot an absorber. "Take one of these. If any of his henchmens attempt to enter the palace, kill them. I will take Frieza."
Kakarrot gripped the absorber, glad that he was a part of the plot to destroy Frieza at last. "Yes, Ouji-sama."
He turned to Bulma. "I want you to find Kakarrot's mate. Stay with her, do not go to your room or to the laboratory. Frieza will look in those places first."
She nodded. "What are you going to do with the rest of those?" Bulma asked, pointing to the crate of absorbers.
"I will give them to my father to give them to the army. They will be at Kakarrot's command." He picked up the box. "Go now, Bulma."
She walked to the door, turning back to him. "Be careful, Vegeta," she said before walking out.
"Kakarrot, we have no time to waste."

"Chi Chi? Are you there?"
"Bulma?" Chi Chi opened the door to admit Bulma into her room. "What's wrong?" she asked after seeing her flustered face.
"Kakarrot didn't tell you?" Chi Chi shook her head. "It's Frieza. He's coming and he knows about the absorbing devices."
"What? How could he know?"
"I don't know, but he does, and now Vegeta and Kakarrot are going to fight him." Bulma expelled a deep sigh. "I really hope they're ready."
"They should be. With your help, it should be no sweat," Chi Chi said as she crossed her arms. "I just really want to know who tipped him off."
"Yeah, me too. We were so careful in trying to keep it secret."
Chi Chi sighed. "I guess we tell the other servants to stay indoors." She walked to the door. "I hope that Weirna and Fresa don't decide to go looking for their new love interest."
"Love interest?" Bulma asked.
The dark haired woman nodded. "A couple of hours ago, I saw them flirting with what I guess was a guest in the palace. He was blue with-"
"-Green hair?" Bulma finished, a worried look on her face.
"Yes. How did you know?"
"That's Zarbon. They must have told him about the absorbers."
"Those two?!? I'm going to kill them!" Chi Chi said, her hand going to the doorknob.
"I'm coming with you. I want to know why they decided to tell him." Bulma followed Chi Chi out of the room.

"Alright, this is it." Kakarrot said as the warriors assembled in front of him. "Frieza's on his way, so we can't mess up." He set the crate of Bulma's absorbing spheres down on the ground. "Each of you, take one of these."
Letti examined the round object. "What are they, Kakarrot?" he asked, puzzled.
"I really don't have a lot of time to explain to you the details, but they will help us in protecting the palace. They will absorb almost any ki attack that is thrown at you, or at least that's what Chi Chi tells me."
Letti rose an eyebrow. "And how did we come by these?"
"Listen, I don't have enough time to discuss it with you. Just take one and slip it into your pocket, or something. Then meet me outside. We're to hold off anyone that tries to enter the palace. Prince Vegeta will take care of Frieza," Kakarrot said as he left the room.

Frieza watched in amusement as Vegeta-sei's army formed a blockade around the entrance of their precious palace. "Zarbon," he turned to his trusted associate. "Stay back at a distance while the others go ahead to raid the building of the Chikyuu woman. In fifteen minutes, we will return to the ship and you will destroy the planet."
Zarbon nodded. "In fifteen minutes, Sire."

"Do you think he'll really come for us?"
Weirna nodded. "Of course. He promised that he would. Lord Zarbon wouldn't fail us, not after we gave him the info on the scientist bitch." She watched Fresa nod and assured her. "He won't fail us." Weirna jumped when the door to her chambers was violently blown from its hinges. "Lady Chi Chi…what's wrong?" Her brown eyes flickered from confusion and fear to realization when she saw Bulma. They knew. Well, it wasn't as if they could do something about it, not when Zarbon was due to arrive any minute. A slow smirk crawled up her plain face. "Now, Lady Chi Chi, I don't think you want to do anything rash-"
"Rash?!?" Chi Chi shouted at her. "Don't you realize what you've done? Vegeta-sei could be destroyed because of you!"
"We won't be here to witness that happy event," Fresa spoke up. "Since we're to be picked up by Lord Zarbon."
Chi Chi smiled maliciously. "Then he'll be picking up two dead bodies," she said, about to pounce at them. But Bulma held her back for a minute.
"Wait, Chi Chi. I want to know why."
Weirna stared at her. "Why? What would you do if you were taken from the luxury of your life and forced into slavery by a race of barbarians who would think you as nothing but some type of ugly being that isn't even worth spitting on? Then watch as a more prettier slave get premoted because of her looks and what she thinks is a good idea." She snorted. "Saving a race of idiots." Weirna ignored Chi Chi's growl. "What kind of person would want to help the very people who enslaved her in the first place?"
Fresa crossed her arms and looked down her nose at Bulma. "Isn't it obvious, Weirna? She, too, is an idiot." Her eyes sparkled with malice. "And she'll die like the rest of them."
Bulma's eyebrows shot up. "I'm sorry if I have one shred of humanity in me. I don't like seeing people suffer. Frieza is suffering. He must be killed to stop it. He's trying to destroy a whole race for a reason that is so frivolous that it is ludicrous that this war is even happening. That is why I'm helping. And all of the people of this race that I've met aren't barbarians. I can't speak for the ones that you've met, but that is no reason to take that out on me." She shook her head and gave them a smile of pity. "And if you honestly think that Zarbon's going to come for you, then you two are the idiots." She let go of Chi Chi. "Let's go. When we tell this to King Vegeta, he'll make sure that they face a fate worse than death."
Chi Chi nodded. "Alright." She ripped off the rope cord of the curtains. "But if you think for a minute that I'm going to let these two escape, then you'd be wrong." Her smirk was filled with wickedness. "You both will be too tied up to be meeting your Zarbon-literally."
