Chapter 4
I followed Turles across the sunset sky and eventually we came to a large dome complex on the edge of a forest and a wasteland, under the shadow of a mountain. It looked like Capsule Corp only in the middle of nowhere. We landed outside the front door and Turles punched in an entrance code. As he did he looked at me through the corner of his eye and smirked. “Can you guess the code? It's something only a saiyan could ever know.”
My stomach did a little panic flip and my mind raced for any tidbit of information I had about saiyans that could help me answer his question.
I couldn't nail down anything concrete so I took a wild guess. “You can't fight the moonlight?”
Turles chuckled, “No, our credo, to live is to fight.”
I chuckled nervously. “Of course.” `I am such an idiot.'
Turles led me into the monstrous house. “This is the barracks.” He explained his voice echoing off the walls of the hallway. The hallway wound by a large lounge and even larger kitchen before turning to reveal other rooms, with computers, supplies, and the like. It was all state of the art and luxurious. Turles immediately led me up what look and felt like a castle stair case to the second floor where there was just a long hallway with several doors. He stopped outside the second door on the right. “This will be your quarters for the duration of your stay.”
I opened the door to reveal a pretty spacious room with a huge window. I was fascinated by the view of the forest even with the lack of light as the sun had almost completely set. The room was done in blues and greens with a large bed and a private bathroom.
Turles stared at me as I stood entranced at the window. He couldn't help, but notice the look in my eyes and the way I was encased in shadow by the setting sun. It warmed his heart in away that no person ever had. “It's beautiful.” I said staring at the expanse of forest.
“Yeah. I like it too. Nappa and Radditz prefer the wasteland view because it reminds them of Vegeta-sei, but the forest has a certain appeal I think.” Turles replied.
“It's so lively and serene all at once.” I replied still mesmerized.
`Just like you.' Turles inwardly thought. He chuckled.
“What's so funny?” I asked turning my gaze to him.
“Nothing, I was just pondering the enigma of you is all.”
I turned fully around my back against the window grasping the sill with my hands.
“You don't act much like a saiyan.”
I frowned a little, partly from offense, partly from worry that I would be discovered. I was quickly finding that Turles was no slouch.
“I mean the way you volunteered to play with the brats…..it's not very saiyan like of you.”
“I don't need you to tell me what a saiyan is or isn't.” I retorted.
Turles raised his eyebrows at my quick back talk. Then he gave me a lazy smirk. “You're pretty quick on the draw first Nappa and now me. That kind of thing could get you killed girl.”
“Is that a threat? And I am not a girl.”
Turles just chuckled it almost sounded evil. “Saiyans don't make threats we make promises. If I wanted you dead you would already be gone.”
I gulped a little and there was an awkward silence between us for a moment. I didn't usually scare that easy, so the chills that ran down my spine because of the tone in his voice were quite a surprise. I decided that it was time he leave. “Goodnight Turles. Thank you.”
Turles wiped at his nose as he turned to leave. “Sleep well, tomorrow we find out just how strong you are. And you are a little girl in my eyes.” He said as he closed the door. I growled under my breath and threw myself on the bed.
“Weirdo.” I muttered.
Just then I heard a beeping that sounded like my laptop. I rolled over and lazily pulled it out of my back pack. I flipped it open and on the screen was the same document from last time with new writing added to it.
`New place, new face, transported through time and space. Are you ready for this chance, now's the time to take your stance.'
`Things have been set in motion do you wish them to continue as such? A. Yes B. No.'
The question was cryptic and the rhyme annoying. “What?” I asked out loud confusedly. I couldn't decided what the question was referring to and I was worried about the repercussions of either choice Saying yes could bring about more weird surprises, saying no could take me out of this reality and back to my own. My hand hovered over the B button, but then I shook my head. `What am I doing? This is the chance of a lifetime grumpy saiyans or not I am staying. So I clicked A. I felt a slight vibration in the air, but nothing more. I waited for ten minutes for a sign, but the only thing that happened was my screensaver came on. I growled in annoyance and stuffed my laptop back in my bag then readily prepared myself for bed.
The next morning Turles awoke and took in the sight of the forest at sunrise like he always did, but this morning he could only think about how Holly had looked the night before shadowed in the window as she gazed adoringly at the forest. She was so mesmerizing. He shook his head. `Where did that come from?'
Turles hadn't felt any kind of attraction to a female of any species in a long time. Not since Vegeta-sei was destroyed. There was never a time or place for it. `Maybe it's just because she's a saiyan.' He thought idly. He shook his head to clear his seemingly muddled thoughts. “Nonsense.” He muttered heading for the bathroom to ready for the day of training ahead.
After that he headed for the kitchen where Radditz and Nappa were already pulling numerous foods from the cupboard preparing a large saiyajinn breakfast. “Hey Turles where's the female?” Radditz asked with a smirk.
“Yeah, you are hiding her trying to keep her all to yourself.” Nappa commented with a guffaw.
Turles growled. “I'm not her keeper why should I bother to make sure she gets up?”
“I'm not going near her.” Nappa snorted.
Radditz smirked at Nappa. “Scared Nappa?”
“No. She's probably a weakling. Why are we even bothering to train with her?”
“Cause Prince Vegeta said so.” Turles said curtly before leaving the kitchen to fetch Holly.
I was dead asleep as there was no alarm clock in the room and I assumed that meant someone would wake me up and I was right.
BANG! The door flew open and slammed the wall hard and I shot out of bed so fast I got tangled in the blankets and fell face first onto the floor. Turles stood in the doorway smirking darkly at my position.
“Glad you're finally up.”
I groaned and growled on the floor. I lifted up my bed head to glare through my massive bangs at him. “What the fuck was that?”
He chuckled darkly. “That was your one and only wake up call. I am not your servant. Next time you can just miss breakfast.”
I growled again, not a morning person, and turned to look out the window. “What time is it?” I asked.
“Six.”
I muttered several explicit words under my breath and rolled out of my blankets. I thought about asking why, but already knew the answer.
“You better hurry up girl if you want to eat. We don't wait for anyone.” Turles turned his back to me and I stuck my tongue out at his back. “Ass.”
The door closed behind him and I shot into action. I'd show him that I could be ready in no time flat.
Turles, Radditz, and Nappa had just begun to eat not ten minutes later when I ran into the room. All eating ceased when they saw me standing in the doorway. “Hey guys.” I said cordially as I marched to an open chair at the table.
Turles couldn't believe it. A woman who could get ready in less than ten minutes was a miracle. He had never known one, not even a saiyan one who could do it. She was dressed in loose black training pants, a black tank top, and a matching black gi top, with a brown belt. Her hair was pulled back in a high ponytail. She looked totally in her element, surprisingly.
“Sorry it took me so long, this place is a maze. Yes eggs!” I was so hungry I grabbed whatever was in reach and ate heartily. After a few moments of shocked staring the guys returned to eating eyeing me eerily. After breakfast and clean up I followed them out to the wasteland behind the barracks to wait for the others. I was proud of how I'd thrown them for a loop with my uniform already. I couldn't wait to train with my idols it was a dream comes true, but I couldn't help, but wonder if I was any good in this universe. I knew I could fly, but energy attacks…..I wasn't so sure about. I crossed my fingers and prayed that I didn't make a complete fool of myself.
