Chapter 5: The Conversation Begins

Standing on the bus, Chi-Chi held on as she swayed from side to side.

*Man, I really need a car* she said to herself as the bus stopped at a red light. Letting go of the bar above her head, she reached down to straighten her skirt. Just then the bus took off, to Chi-Chi surprise, causing her to fall forward into the guy standing next to her.

"I'm sorry" she said as she moved away from him and held onto the rail. The guy just smiled at her as he looked her over. Chi-Chi noticed this and looked away.

"So, where are you going looking so good?" the guy asked her. Chi-Chi looked at him with a weak smile on her face.

"Out!' she said quickly as she turned and looked out the window. The guy stifled a laugh as he just looked at her.

"Mind if I join you, beautiful?" the guy asked. Sighing to herself, Chi-Chi reached over and pushed to stop button. The bus slowed to a stop in front of a small store.

"Well, nice meeting you" Chi-Chi said as she moved by him and climbed off the bus. As the doors closed behind her, Chi-Chi ran her hand through her black hair.

"Well that's one customer I just passed up" she said to herself as she started walking down the street. Going a couple of blocks, Chi-Chi turned one final corner to come face to face with a long line of people.

"Again with the line. It's a good thing I have connections" Chi-Chi said as she walked towards the entrance. She smiled once she saw Krillin standing in front of the entrance.

"Hey Krillin" she said as she reached him. Krillin looked at her with a smile on his face.

"Hey, nice to see you again. Is, uh, your friend with you as well?" he asked as he looked behind Chi-Chi and around her.

"No, not tonight. Tonight it's just me" Chi-Chi said with a smile on her face. Krillin's smile reduced to a frown as he looked at her. Noticing this, Chi-Chi's smile only grew bigger. Krillin's smile suddenly returned as he looked at the expression on Chi-Chi's face.

"So, you're here to ask Goku out on a date" he said. Chi-Chi's mouth flew open as she looked at him.

"Who told you that?" she asked as she glared at him. Krillin's eyes narrowed as his smile increased in size.

"Only the person with the biggest mouth around" he said as he raised his eyebrows up and down. Chi-Chi's eyes narrowed as she clenched her fists in anger.

"Bulma!" she said as she looked to the side.

"The one and only. She's inside as well if you want to talk to her" Krillin said. Chi-Chi smiled as she looked at him.

"I think I might just go do that. Thanks for the tip" Chi-Chi said before walking by him and inside the club. The music was blaring as usual as Chi-Chi looked around. Her eyes slowly fell on the bar and the person behind it fixing all the drinks.

*Ok Chi-Chi, just see what he wants and leave* she said to herself as she walked towards the bar. There were only 4 people already sitting in front of the bar and they were all at the far ends. Finding a seat right in the middle, Chi-Chi sat down. She looked to see Goku at the far right end of the bar tending to a customer. A smile couldn't help but show on her face as she looked at him.

*I'll give him one thing. He does look nice. Nice face, big muscles, he must really work out* Chi-Chi said to herself as she took her bag off her shoulder and placed it on the bar top. Raising her hand in the air, she waved it back and forth.

"Excuse me, bartender" she said with a smile on her face. Goku looked up and immediately smiled as he looked at her. Chi-Chi watched as he said something to the customer before heading towards her.

*30 minutes and I'm out of here* Chi-Chi said as Goku approached her.

"Chi-Chi, what brings you by?" Goku asked as he smiled at her.

"Well, I was just in the neighborhood and I just decided to stop by" Chi-Chi said. Goku narrowed his eyes as a he looked at her.

"So, I see Bulma told you I was asking about you" he said with a smirk on his face. Chi-Chi looked at him for awhile before she chuckled a small laugh.

"Yeah, she told me. Why do you want to see me anyway, if you don't mind me asking" Chi-Chi said. Goku just stared at her for awhile before answering.

"I just wanted to talk, that's all" Goku said as he once again smiled at her.

"Talk about what?" Chi-Chi asked.

"How about I get you a drink then we can talk" Goku suggested. Chi-Chi ran her hand through her hair as she looked at him.

"Get me the usual" she said. Goku laughed at he looked at her.

"The usual? This is your second time in here and you already have a usual?' he asked as he reached for a glass.

"Yes I do, now can you get it for me?' Chi-Chi asked as she batted her eyelashes at him. Goku just laughed as he looked at her.

"Well when you put it that way" Goku said as he prepared her drink. Tapping her fingers on the bar top, Chi-Chi just nodded her head to the music.

"Once pina colada beverage" Goku said as he placed the drink in front of her.

"Thank you. How much do I owe you?" Chi-Chi asked as she zipped open her purse and pulled out her wallet.

"Its on me" Goku said as he smiled at her. Chi-Chi looked at him as she held onto her wallet.

"This is the third drink you're giving up for free. Isn't it going to cost this place in the end?" she asked.

"No, besides as long as I put the money in the register no one will know" Goku said. Chi-Chi just smiled as she put her wallet back in her purse and zipped it back up.

"So, did you wear that to impress me because if you did it worked" Goku said as he looked at Chi-Chi. Smiling at him, Chi-Chi climbed off of the stool.

"This old thing? It's nothing" she said as she placed her hands on her hips and spun around. Goku just smiled as Chi-Chi sat back down on the stool.

"So, how long have you been doing this?" she asked him as she took a sip of her drink.

"For a few years now. I've worked in different places but finally found a home here with my friends" Goku said.

"Who are your friends?" Chi-Chi asked as she stirred her finger in the drink.

"Vegeta and Krillin! When Vegeta decided to open this place up he gave us jobs" Goku said.

"So, how come you just didn't become a bouncer instead? I mean you look like you can take care of anyone who crosses you the wrong way?" Chi-Chi asked as she took her finger out and placed it in her mouth. Goku had a smile on his face as he watched her.

"It would make sense since I`m not the only bartender but I love what I do and besides if I was a bouncer I never would have the chance to see you do what you just did with your finger and that drink" Goku said with a laugh. Chi-Chi just laughed along as she put her finger back in the drink and slowly put it in her mouth. Looking down at her watch she noticed that her 30 minutes were up. Noticing her distraction, Goku decided to question her.

"Have somewhere to go?" he asked. Chi-Chi looked up at him and just smiled.

"Yeah, I have to go to work" Chi-Chi said. Goku just nodded his head.

"So, you work! What do you do might I ask?" said Goku. Chi-Chi's smile faded into a small frown as she looked at him.

"Well I'm not a bartender, that's for sure" Chi-Chi said with a weak smirk on her face. Goku just smiled at her, still awaiting her answer.

"I'm a……I'm a working girl" Chi-Chi said. Goku raised his eyebrows as he looked at her.

"I know you're a working girl but what do you do at work?" Goku asked her. Chi-Chi sighed as she looked at him.

*He really wants to know but how can I tell him without telling him?* Chi-Chi wondered to herself. Looking at Goku only snapped her back into reality.

"No listen, I'm a work-ing- girl" Chi-Chi broke down slowly as she nodded her head to every word she said. Goku looked at her for awhile before realizing what she was talking about.

"You're a prostitute?" he asked as his mouth flew open with shock. Chi-Chi just nodded her head. Goku closed his mouth as he looked at her. Chi-Chi just looked at him then down at her drink.

*This is not going well* she said to herself. The two remained quiet for awhile before Goku spoke up.

"How long have you been doing it?" he asked. Chi-Chi sighed as she looked up at him.

"For a few months now. I don't do it because I want to though. I don't have any other choice but to work the streets in order to get money" Chi-Chi said.

"What reason could you have to do something like that?" Goku asked.

"Look, you don't understand. I go to school in the daytime. College is expensive and I need money. Besides that I have to pay for food and rent and other things I need" Chi-Chi said.

"Can't you get another job…….I mean a real job?" Goku asked. Chi-Chi narrowed her eyes as she looked at him.

"Look, you don't know me so why are you interested in what I do with my life?" Chi-Chi snapped at him.

"I'm not trying to get into your business. I just wanted to know why you haven't found another line of work. I mean you said you were going to school so I know that you're smart" Goku said.

"I just haven't found the right job for me. I mean you can't exactly put on a résumé that you sleep with men for money. What person would hire me if they found that out?" Chi-Chi asked as she looked down at her drink again. A smile appeared on Goku's face as he looked at her.

"You can work here. I'm sure Vegeta would hire you since you know Bulma" he said. A smirk appeared on Chi-Chi's face as she looked up at him.

"I'll tell you what I told Bulma. I do not want to work here. I make more money doing what I'm doing now then I ever could waiting on people" Chi-Chi said.

"But you can't be happy sleeping with all these different guys for a few bucks, Chi-Chi" Goku said as his smile disappeared. Chi-Chi just looked at him.

"Listen, I have to go" she said as she pushed her drink away.

"Don't go! Look, we can talk about something else if you want" Goku suggested as he looked at her.

"I really have to go so I can make my pay for the night. I missed last night because I came here" Chi-Chi said as she hopped off the stool.

"Wait, how about I pay for you to spend your night with me?" Goku asked as he glared at her. Chi-Chi just looked at him, wondering if he was the least bit serious.

"I don't come cheep" she finally said. Goku smiled as he reached into his pocket. Chi-Chi's eyes went wide as she saw the large amount of money in Goku's hand. Flipping through his money, Goku pulled out three bills.

"Is $250 enough?" he asked as he slid the money over to her. Chi-Chi looked down at the money then over to him.

"Are you serious?" she asked as she slowly sat back down on the stool. Nodding his head, Goku kept the rest of his money in his hand.

"Is it enough?" he asked. Chi-Chi just looked at him as he looked at her. A smile appeared on her face as she took the money off of the bar top. Looking at it, she slid it back over to Goku.

"This ones on the house" she said. Goku looked at her for awhile but soon smiled back. He took the money and put it all back in his pocket.

"I guess we're even now" Chi-Chi said as she reached for her glass and took a sip from it.

"Guess so! So, what are you going to school for?" Goku asked

"I'm trying to be a lawyer like my father was" Chi-Chi said as she took another sip of her drink.

"So you live around here with him?" Goku asked as he got a glass and filled it with water.

"No I live with my friend 18. You meet her last night" Chi-Chi said. Goku smiled as he drunk the water.

"Oh yeah, I remember her" Goku said. Chi-Chi watched him set the glass down on the bar counter.

"Water? All those bottles behind you and you drink water?" Chi-Chi asked. Goku looked down at the glass then over at Chi-Chi.

`I may be a bartender but that doesn't mean I have to drink, besides water is better" Goku said. Looking at her drink then at Goku's glass, Chi-Chi only smiled.

"Then I'll have a glass of water as well" she said. Smiling at her, Goku took her drink away and gave her a glass of water. As Chi-Chi sipped it, Goku looked at the entrance and smiled.

"I guess your friend couldn't stay away from here either" he said. Putting her glass down, Chi-Chi just looked at him.

"Who Bulma? I have to talk to her anyway" Chi-Chi asked as she looked at Goku. Picking up her glass again she started to drink all of the water

"No, 18" Goku said as he pointed to the entrance. Chi-Chi's eyes went wide as she spit the water out and all over Goku. Quickly she turned around to see 18 looking around the club.

"What is she doing here?" Chi-Chi said as she hopped off the stool. Goku looked at 18 then Chi-Chi.

"She probley came to have fun tonight like you did" Goku said. Chi-Chi just looked around as she looked at 18.

"What are you doing?" Goku asked as he watched her.

"Quick, I need a place to hide" Chi-Chi said as she ran to the end of the bar and opened the small door that kept people from heading behind the counter.

"Why do you need to hide?" Goku asked as Chi-Chi came towards him. Chi-Chi bent down beside him and held onto his leg.

"Because I'm not suppose to be here now. I told 18 I was going to work. If she catches me here then she going to yell and I really don't want to hear her tonight" Chi-Chi said as she looked up at him.

"Well, here she comes so you better cover your ears" Goku said as he looked at 18. Goku smiled at the approaching 18. She walked over to Goku with a frown on her face.

"Ok, where is she?" she asked as she glared at Goku. Goku just smiled at her as he shrugged his shoulders. 18 raised her eyebrows as she glared at Goku. Looking at the counter, 18 saw the empty glass of water.

"I know she's here! That little man at the door said so" 18 said. Just then 18 and Goku heard a sneeze. Glaring at Goku, 18 leaned over the counter to see Chi-Chi on the floor holding onto Goku.

"So this is work, huh?" 18 said as she moved off the counter and folded her arms across her chest. Slowly Chi-Chi stood up with a smile on her face.

"Look 18, I can explain" Chi-Chi said as she looked at her friend.

"I can't believe you lied to me. I don't care that you came here but you lied and said you were going to work" 18 said.

"C'mon 18, I wanted to have some fun and Goku here was going to pay for my nights pay but I refused him. I just wanted to have fun, that's all" Chi-Chi said as she hopped on top of the counter with Goku's help. Spinning her legs around, she got off of the counter and stood in front of 18.

"Is fun going to pay the bills and your tuition? I don't think so!" 18 snapped.

"Wait a minute! What are you doing down here? I thought you said this place was a bad idea" Chi-Chi said. Dropping her hands, 18 glared at Chi-Chi.

"I meant it was a bad idea for you not me. I work in the morning and afternoons so I'm getting paid but what about you. If you keep coming here and hanging with this bartender then you will fall behind on your payments. I'm only looking out for you" 18 said. Chi-Chi looked at her and dropped her head. Goku, who was watching the whole thing unfold, decided to speak up.

"I can help with that" he said. 18 glared at him with her eyes narrowed.

"And what do you plan on doing? Helping her save money by giving her drinks for free?" 18 spat as she looked at him. Chi-Chi first looked at 18 then over at Goku.

*How does he think he can help me?* she asked herself. Goku smiled as he reached into his pocket and pulled out all of his money. 18's mouth dropped as she saw all the money but regained her composure when she noticed Chi-Chi looking at her.

"I'll pay her a weeks pay to keep my company" Goku said as he started to flip through his bills. 18 started to laugh as she looked at him.

"Do you know how much that is going to cost you? You can't be serious" she said as she glared at him. Goku just smiled as he held some money in one of his hands and put the rest back in his pocket with the other.

"Chi-Chi, I'll pay you $1,000 to keep my company for the week. I hope that's enough" Goku said as he slid the money over to Chi-Chi. Chi-Chi's mouth just dropped as she looked at him then down at the money.

`You're going to sleep with her for a week?" 18 asked.

"No, I'm going to spend some time with her, no sex involved. I just want to get to know her if you don't mind" Goku snapped as he looked at 18. Growling low, 18 looked at Chi-Chi.

"So, what do you say?" Goku asked as he looked at Chi-Chi. A smirk appeared on Chi-Chi's face as she reached towards the counter and took the money.

"I say we have a deal!" Chi-Chi said as she counted the money. She had in fact $1,000 dollars in her hand. 18 just looked at her then over at Goku.

"Whatever, I'll be waiting for you in the car, Chi-Chi" 18 said as she turned and walked away from her friend. Chi-Chi watched her go then looked at Goku.

"I don't know what to say" she said as she put the money in her purse. Goku smiled as he reached behind the bar and pulled out a small piece of paper and a pencil.

"Well you could start off by giving me your phone number and address so I can call you and visit you. I mean, I did pay to spend time with you" Goku said. Chi-Chi smiled as she took the pencil and wrote down her phone number and address.

"When are you going to call me?" Chi-Chi asked as she slid the paper and pencil over to him.

"I'll call you tomorrow and maybe we can go out tomorrow night" Goku said as he put the paper in his pocket.

"You don't have to work?" Chi-Chi asked as she put her purse strap on her shoulder.

"I can get someone to fill in for me" Goku said.

"So I guess I'll hear from you tomorrow" Chi-Chi said. Goku just smiled as he looked at her.

"I better get going. See you tomorrow" Chi-Chi said.

"Bye!" Goku said as he watched her walk away. Chi-Chi had a huge smile on her face as she walked towards the entrance. She looked to see Krillin getting up from off the floor.

"What happened to you?" she asked. Krillin looked at her then at a car.

"Your friend happened? Man, she is strong. All I did was tell her goodnight and she shoved me down." Krillin said. Chi-Chi looked at the car and saw 18 sitting in it with her fingers moving on the steering wheel.

"She's having a bad night. See you later" Chi-Chi said as she ran towards the car. Climbing in, 18 started the car and the girls took off for home.
