~~~~``` Chapter. 4
Arcadia rested his body in the large blood red chair that sat in the middle of the space ship. His hands sprawled over the control panels as he tried to figure out what each one did. He experimentally touch a few finding no reaction to any of them. He sighed and dropped his head on the back of the velvet cushion. He had been going at this for two hours and none of these millions of buttons did anything. That meant their had to be an on switch. He bit his button lip before daringly calling out the word, "Pride." The door closed with a loud hiss.
His large blue eyes widened as the whole computer blinked on to life. The window became the main screen showing a blinking round dot in the middle of billions of others. Arcadia touched it watching as the graphics changed to a weird handwriting that match the beautiful writing on the side of the machine. He knew they had to mean something about this planet or maybe another. Or maybe his hypothesis was plainly wrong. It was always a possibility.
Arcadia allowed his callous fingers to push one single red button, quickly repressing it after he heard the engines kick on. He tabbed in his mind to never press that.
Minutes turned into hours as he explored each little button, having unfortunately released an oxygen mask scaring the shit out of him as it fell from above. After jumping and hitting his head, and fiddling with the strings of the mask, he finally got the mask back into it's rightful compartment. A female's computer voice kept on coming on every time he pushed a button but the words she spoke were so foreign. No matter how alien it was, though, he could help but instantly fall in love with the rhythmic, smooth waves of language that flowed into his ears. It was like she was singing every time she spoke and yet there was no tone to her voice, it was as simple as he spoke, but the way all came together with such unity amazed him.
The screen was blinking again but this time it was what he thought to be a word at the button of the red screen. He was hesitantly but let his fingers grace across it. His eyes widened as he realized that it was a message. It went on for a minute minutes before it stalled in words while another blinking caught his attention. He touched it, his voice catching up in his throat as he viewed a small full-body image of a female. She was kind of hazy and the image kept flickering but he could make out her large beautiful blue eyes and her awkward blue hair that was nicely placed to cup her face. She wore a long white dress that flowed down to her feet and wrapped around her shoulders, leaving her arms bare. Arcadia first thought was that she was the most gorgeous creature he had ever seen.
Her lips started moving, and that harmonious language past her tongue with ease. It lasted twice as long as the other one. Arcadia somehow knew that this woman knew who and what he was and was trying to explain to him something.
After it was finished, Arcadia left the spaceship, hurried home, grabbed a disc recorder and quickly recorded all of the speeches made on to it. He smiled to himself as he stared at the female again. She made him feel something. Something ache in his heart. He shook his head, when he couldn't pinpoint what it was exactly.
Arcadia flipped the lights on to his apartment, setting his keys, money and recorder down on his foyer table before yanking off his jacket as he made his way down the hall to his kitchen, grabbing a pre-made dinner and popping it in the oven. He breathed in his apartment smell, cringing in result before grabbing his remote and pointing it to the sky to direct the roof to open up, smiling as the moonlight shined in his kitchen.
He stalled from popping open his drink when he heard shoveling going on down the hallway where his bedroom was located. Carefully placing down the soda, he heightened his power before stepping down the soundless pathway. Arcadia's eyes squinted when he saw his bedroom light on. Grounding his teeth together and tightening his fists he shoved himself before the doorway, palm out ready to blast the intruder. But his power stalled and dissipated, "Seneca." He sighed in relief, dropping his hands to his sides.
The brunette didn't turn around as she continued to pack her clothes in the large suitcase on the bed. Arcadia brows knitted, "Seneca, what are you doing?"
"Of course you wouldn't know. It's not like you've been around to know." She replied, sniffling and wiping her face before she went to the dresser to pull out more clothes.
"What are you talking about?" Arcadia grabbed her wrist causing her to stall angrily, "Will you talk to me?"
"Why should I? You don't bother to talk to me." She whipped her arm away before going back to packing.
"I know, and I'm sorry but something really important has been going on."
"You know what? I don't care, Arcadia. I don't."
He made his way behind her, slowly slipping his arms around her tiny waist, holding her tight against his chest as she struggled to get away, "I don't believe you. You love me."
She hung her head, her clothes dropping into the suitcase before she just let her arms fall to her sides in surrender, "I do love you, Arcadia. But it's not enough." She pushed out of his arms, slamming her suit case.
"What the hell is that suppose to mean, Seneca?"
"Listen Arcadia," She turned to him. Her green eyes bloodshot, tears still fresh on her face. Seneca smiled sadly as his large hand cupped her wet cheek, his thumb stroking it, "Kami, Arcadia, why must you do this?"
"Do what?"
"You can't just be here one minute and mend things and then leave next for Kami knows how long without once telling me where you're going and when you'll be back. Ever since I first met you in high school you always left without a word for days, weeks sometimes. And then you'd come back and apologize, saying you needed to be alone and never once tell me anything that happened. And I always forgave you. Because I loved you. But Arcadia, I can't do this anymore. I can't act like everything's OK. I think it would be best if we just take a break for awhile. See other people."
"You don't mean that."
"Yes, I do. I'm leaving to go live with my sorority sisters."
"So that's why you're here? You were just going to pack up and leave without telling me anything?"
"I learned it from you." No bitterness in her voice, no anger, just a deep regret when witnessing the pleading, angry reflection of his gaze. She moved in just to lightly kiss his unresponsive lips, "We were good together. When you were around. Weren't we?" Seneca turned and grabbed her suitcase before running out the door.
Arcadia stood there for a moment, his hands clenching into fist, his teeth grinding against one another. He squeezed his eyes shut, turning his head away. Four years for nothing. For years of loving that girl and it was pointless. Arcadia snapped open his eyes, growling when he saw the picture of them on their first date. He picked it up, staring at it for what seemed like hours before suddenly throwing it against the wall watching the glass shatter and fall to a thousand pieces on the floor.
~~~~~```

Arcadia downed the last of the shot glass in his hand, slamming it on the windowsill. He watched the ran run down the glass pane, words from the radio played, his thumb tapping with the slow beat of Staind, Epiphany. It was Seneca's favorite song. He dropped his forehead against the glass, his other hand fidgeting with the small disc between his fingers. It better be worth it, was really all he could say.

Arcadia shoved his body from the cushioned seat over to his computer, popping in the small disc. Before he began, he pulled out a drawl that was hidden on the inside of the computer desk to grab the carton of cigarettes that laid inside. These so called 'cancer sticks' had been banned over three years ago, having such forbidden treasures would surely be an arrest. Arcadia barely ever smoked knowing how horrible it was for his health but there are just sometimes that these little skinny smokers eased his troubles. He lit the end of it, taking a deep drag before he dropped into his chair.

His fingers ran across the keyboard, hooking the modem up to a state of art language and sound barrier unit that provided him with the exact references needed in trying to figure out what the creatures were saying. Arcadia had always been fascinated with the variety of languages on earth and took it upon himself to learn all of them in the world. The only 'human' that could ever achieve it.

He turned up the volume on his speaker, once again hearing the female's voice that had caught his attention and listened carefully to each syllable. He slowed down the speed of the words to make out any other sounds in the back round and to find if there were any secret codes that would enable him to figure out this alien language.

His eyes widened as a word pad popped open on his computer and suddenly, with each word the female spoke, the language became written. Symbols that were drawn wide, short, long, and thin crises-crossed and intersected one another making it appear as if it were a map. His fingers brushed across each line and curve as he gazed in wonder.

Once the speech was all over the whole page was covered in the unique handwriting, Arcadia set up a code deciphering of each letter, trying to get a certain read out but it appeared that his computer could not handle such a altered writing, causing the whole modem to freeze.

Arcadia growled and smashed his fist in the side of it, wincing when his hand went through the outer covering and into the core. Sparks flew every which way. He shook his head, pulling his bloody fist out, flexing his hand and basking in the pain.

~~~~~``
"So your computer just combusted?" Goten asked as he flew beside his brother to the bottom of the mountain.
"Yea, it couldn't handle this type of language, that was the first time I ever seen anything like it."
"I told you computers were useless."
"That's only because you don't know how to operate one."
"Hey, I do." He quickly defended. "I just don't like it is all."
"Yea, right." Arcadia let him get off knowing this argument could go on forever. They dropped before the mountain hurrying inside to hook up the disk to the computer in the space ship. Arcadia relaxed in the seat, watching with fascination as the type of data processor that was held inside the machine. He typed in what he wanted and waiting in anticipation for it to hurry with it's translation to English. "It's gonna take a while." He told his brother as he eased out of the machine.
The two brothers took a seat and set up a fire in the cold cave. Arcadia pulled out a cigarette only to be quickly bombarded by questions. "When the hell did you start with that again? And where did you get it? What's wrong?"
"I didn't start anything again, I just want one every now and then. I have my ways. And nothings wrong."
"Bullshit. I know something's wrong. You don't feel right. Your aurora is so depressing."
Arcadia sighed as he dropped back against the dirty ground, the cancer stick tight between his lips, "Seneca left me."
"You got to be kidding me?"
"Nope. Found her packing her shit last night. Said I was never round, she couldn't take it and is now currently staying with her sorority sisters. She even said we should see other people."
"Aw, man. That sucks ass. I can't believe it. You guys have been together for like three years, known for five, I can't picture you guys not together."
"Yeah well. What can you do?" He asked carelessly, taking in a deep drag.
"But I kind of understand."
Arcadia snapped his head toward his brother, cocking his lavender eyebrow. "Understand what?"
"Why she left you."
"Oh, really?"
"Yep."
"And why is that, little brother?"
"Well, you aren't around very much, Arcadia. You leave when you want. You never told mom or me growing up when, where, or why you're leavin'. You just left. And then when you did come back, you acted like you weren't even gone, wouldn't tell us what you did, or anything. Plus you always forgot her birthday. Rarely ever called her and the only time you ever seemed to talk to her was when you wanted to get laid."
"That's not true. I knew when her birthday was." With a skeptic look from Goten, Arcadia chuckled in spite of himself, taking a drag of his cigarette, "Ok, so I wasn't the best boyfriend in the world. But I loved her. I love her." He correct. "And she loves me. I didn't think I needed to do anything else."
Goten slapped his hand on his brother's back, "And that, Arcadia is where you are sadly mistaken."
"And what would you know about love, dear brother of mine? You haven't even been with a girl long enough to get some."
Both snapped their heads to the beeping of the round machine behind them. Quickly the two got to their feet, Arcadia threw himself inside, landing heavily in the leather seat. He laughed and groaned as his brother squeezed in beside him, calling out the password to shut the door. "It's done."
"Play it!" Goten exclaimed as he fidgeted next to his brother uncontrollably causing slight discomfort for both.
"All right. All right." With a great big sigh, Arcadia clicked the button and held his breath as he listened to the first message.
"In this Capsule Space Pod holds the future ruler of Planet Vegeta. This gift is given to you for, at the moment, our planet is being under attack. It was pre-arranged before the Rebellion that the Nobles of Planet Gagen will care for his needs until the Royal Family of Vegeta-sei is able to retrieve him. Thank you."
"Holy shit. What the hell does that mean?" Goten asked.
"I don't know Bro. Let's hear the other one." His shaking finger clicked the button on the screen watching with pure deep excitement as that beautiful woman once again showed up on the screen in her solid white dress.
"If you are receiving this message then that can only mean Judgment Day did not go as planned and I am no longer alive to care for you. I am sure with your teachings you know of our planet's destruction by Frieza's power. We tried, my darling, but we unfortunately were not strong enough."
"It's…She's my…"
"You are just a child now I presume, too young to get revenge for your people. But you must believe that you are strong enough. As you know by now, your strength and power is well beyond any creature in the universe. You are the first and only half-breed between Sayian and Humanoid blood. The first born of the most powerful race of future half-breeds. This combination of blood allows your powers to reach inconceivable levels and therefore gain absolute victory against the monstrous lizard that destroyed your people. My precious Prince Trunks. I wish I was there to see you rise in power and destroy the one we could not. My only advice for you is to wait until your power is maximum. When your hair grows long and gold, and your eyes become that of Teal, then and only then will you be able to take control of the empire that is rightfully yours.
"I am sorry to say, that your father has refused to help in this message. He believed that he could defeat anything and he may well could have, if his pride had not been his undoing. That is why your code is what it is. Always remember, A Sayian's honor is his pride, but in battle it is his downfall. I love you, my son. And I am sorry that I am not capable to hold you at this moment. But in order for you to live we had to send you away. You are our only hope in retribution. Be well, my child."
The silence roared in the air as both half-breeds stared at the blank screen with pale features and uncertain eyes. Goten was the first however to break the annoying deafness. "Prince Trunks? Who the hell is that?"
Arcadia blinked a few times before swallowing the non existing liquid in his arid throat, "That…That was my mother…"
Goten turned to him with knitted brows, "You think so? I don't know she didn't really look like you. She has blue hair, you have lavender."
"I can't…no there has to be something else…" Arcadia, in a desperate act, click the message again and listened carefully to the words spoken only to end up with an unresponsive and nihilism attitude. "This can't be right…"
"Pride." Goten called out watching the door fall open allowing him access to exit the confided area, permitting his brother to have some space. He leaned against the doorway, watching the lavender child with sympathy, "Arcadia, you all right?" He whispered.
Arcadia just kept shaking his head, "This…This has to be wrong. They can't be…I mean…I. I don't understand."
"Well, I can help you with that. Our race is dead and you're a Prince. That pretty much sums it up."
"No…Goten…No. They can't…" They were dead. His blood, his mother, his father, and his race, were all dead. He had never felt so lost in his life. All this time that he believe his family was still out there was wasted. They had died years ago. And so had everybody that would have known them. He would never be able to know of his past, of who he was exactly.
Goten sighed miserably as he reached in and grabbed his brother's arm, hauling him from the space pod. Placing his hands on the shorter man's shoulders he gently began, "Arcadia, it doesn't matter. We know what we are. There's nothing we can do. So let's just go home. You got your answers. Now let's forget it."
"I can't Goten. I'm…You heard her. I'm supposed to take revenge."
"For what? For a family and life you've never known? You have no reason too. Besides, Arcadia, you have not a single mean cell in your body. How the hell do you plan to kill someone that supposable killed a race that you have never heard of before and therefore have no reason to justify taking a life? It's stupid, Arcadia."
"Trunks."
"What?"
"My name is Trunks."
"No it's not. You're not that person. So stop this and let's just go."
Arcadia stared into the black eyes of his pleading brother, amazed and shell shock at the fear that laid in them. What was he afraid of? His instinct to care for his younger sibling swallowed up his trouble emotions as he smiled confidently but with fascism, "You're right, Bro. Let's just go. It doesn't matter anymore." A smile spread on Goten's face as he slapped Arcadia on the arm.
"I'll race ya!"
"Give you five second head start." Knowing that Arcadia was much faster, Goten took the chance and ran to the exit. But the lost lavender haired Prince turned to his pod and stared at the machine that just decided his future. With a simple nod, Trunks ran after his adoptive brother.
