Warnings for TE: A bad word here and there. I MIGHT have to raise the PG-13 rating to R sometime in the future for other reasons. And there's some evil Crystelle-ness in here somewhere… ;)

The sun began to set as the long day finally started coming to an end. The trees outside the large mansion casted shadows on the walls of the estate. Light from a window in the front illuminated the grounds.

"You didn't call her?" Hercule asked, holding the phone to his ear. Crystelle sat on the comfy red sofa nearby, watching her fiancé.

"No Mr. Satan, sir, we haven't had to call Videl today. It's been rather quiet around here," replied the police chief on the other line.

Hercule thought for a moment. "Okay then. Thanks chief… Oh, before I forget, I would appreciate it if you wouldn't call Videl anymore."

"Why sir? Is she okay?"

"She's grounded. Please direct all other emergencies to me and I'll tell you what to do!" The champ said, chuckling his stupid laugh. Crystelle rolled her eyes.

`Does he ever stop?' she thought before taking a gulp of her wine.

"Thanks… bye." Hercule hung up the phone and turned to the blonde sitting on the couch. His face went from angry to pitiful.

"Oh what am I gonna do, babycakes?!" he said, laying his head in her lap. "I'm so worried about Videl! I've called all her little friends I know!! No one's seen her!! Dohhhh what if she ran away?! What if she is sad and alone out there in this cruel world?!"

`Fine by me…' Crystelle thought. `Little bitch.'

"Oh… what if the press gets a hold of this?!" the man-who-beat-Cell whined. "I'll be ruined! I can just see it now! Champ's Daughter Runs Away!"

Crystelle took another gulp of wine, thinking. An evil grin grew across her face.

"I know where she is."

Hercule sat up, blinking. "Uh… you do? Why didn't you say so earlier, hunnybun?"

"I just thought about it!" she snapped. "Remember I said at lunch that boy named Gohan called yesterday?"

Hercule jumped up from the sofa, furious. "That's right! Ooohh how dare she go to a boy's house?!"

Crystelle got up and walked over to the phone, picking it up. She smiled, turning to her love.

"His number is in the phone database…" she said, her voice as smooth as silk. She selected the right number and hit the dial button. "Oops… look what I did…"

Videl sat back in the dining chair and watched in disbelief as the Son brothers finished their dinner. Little Sato had fallen asleep, her head lying against the table. Videl tapped her fingers on the surface and reviewed the thoughts in her head. She hadn't been able to touch Gohan at all… after hours and hours of trying she had failed! Well… the rock incident obviously didn't count, as nice as it had been anyway. `I'm fooling myself…' she thought. `How can I expect training from Gohan when I can't even hit him?' She watched Gohan as he stuffed ramen into his mouth as hard as he could. `He has to be connected in some way to those fighters. They must be the friends he talked about.'

"Videl dear," Chichi said, gathering the empty dishes, "Would you mind putting Sato to bed for me?"

Videl smiled. "Sure Chichi." She rose from her seat and slowly picked Sato up, cradling the little one in her arms. Goten stretched, yawning, after he finished is last bowl of ramen.

"You too Goten," Chichi ordered as she began the long task of washing dishes.

The young saya-jin frowned and rubbed his eyes. "Aww momma, I'm not sleepy, really!"

"Come on Goten. I'll tuck you in too," Videl said, smiling. She held her free hand out to him.

Goten blinked, then grinned. "Okay, onesan!" He shot up and ran over to her, grabbing her soft hand.

Chichi stopped her chore momentarily, watching as the teenager led the children out of the room. She smiled and turned to Gohan, who gathered the rest of the dishes like he did every night.

"Look how she handles them, Gohan," she said, "I can tell Videl will make a good wife one day and great mother too!"

Gohan's brow twitched. "Mo-om!" he said through gritted teeth. There was no stopping his mother. She had already gotten started.

"And Goten called her big sister! Aww… that's sweet! Oh Goku!!"

Gohan set the plates down and turned to leave, a grim look plastered on his face. He left the room, trying to ignore his mother's rambling to his long-deceased father, whom he was sure was plugging his ears wherever he was in Other World.

The saya-jin wandered up the staircase, into the hall that led to four small rooms. He peeked in his younger siblings' room upon hearing soft singing. Videl kneeled on the floor beside Goten and Sato's separate futon beds, humming to them. Goten had already succumbed to sleep, a content look on his face. After Videl finished the song, Sato sat up.

"That was a pretty song, nice lady!"

Videl blinked. "Hey… I thought you were asleep."

"Nope!" Sato said, grinning. She spotted Gohan in the doorway. He held up his finger and silently said `shhh.' The tiny one understood.

"Did your mommy sing that to you, nice lady?" she asked.

Videl flinched, but kept her smile. "Yes."

Sato frowned. "Hm. Well I don't know my real mommy. It was just me and my brother, Kioshi." She looked at the sleeping Goten and the smile returned to her face. "But now I have a new mommy that's really nice and two cool brothers! Oh! Did you know when Goten eats spaghetti he can make it come out his nose? I tried to do it but it hurt!"

Videl sweatdropped. "I'm very happy for you Sato," she said, stroking the child's hair.

Sato cocked her head to one side, enjoying the moment. "Is your mommy nice?"

Videl stopped and motioned for her to lie down. "My mother died when I was four, so I really don't remember her. She sung that song to me, so I guess she was nice."

Little Sato obeyed and pulled the covers to her chin. "Aww." She smiled when an idea entered her head. "Hey, you could be a part of our family, nice lady! My mommy could be your mommy. I don't care!" she chirped.

Videl laughed, patting the youngster on the head. "That's sweet, but I can't live here Sato. I have a home." `As much as I would love to get away from it…' she thought.

Sato looked to the doorway again at her older brother and grinned wider. "Ooh! You could marry `niisan! Then we could all live together!"

Gohan fell over.

Videl stood up, blushing. "That's nice Sato, but I can't. Now you go to sleep… make your new mother happy, okay?"

"Okay…" Sato said with reluctance. "Goodnight, nice lady!"

"You can call me Videl," the teen replied. "And goodnight to you."

Sato smirked. "Goodnight nice lady Videl!"

Videl chuckled and flicked the light switch off. She turned and yelped as she nearly ran into her saya-jin friend, who had just pulled himself from the floor.

"Gohan, don't do that!" she whispered.

The saya-jin blinked. "Do what?"

Videl sighed. "Nevermind… I-"

Chichi came up the stairs, the cordless phone in her hand.

"Videl sweetheart, it's for you," she said.

Videl sighed, taking the phone from her. "Thanks… It's probably my father. I'm sure he's angry." She held it up to her ear and waited for the storm. "Hello? Daddy?"

"Videl dear! Thank God we found you!"

Videl frowned upon hearing Crystelle's `ecstatic' voice. Chichi and Gohan stood, listening.

"What do you want, Crystelle?" the teen demanded.

"We've been worried sick! Your father is very upset. We want you to come home!"

Videl rolled her eyes. "Sure, I'll bet the only reason you want me to come home is so you can tell dad more lies about me and watch me get punished for stuff I've never done! Oh wait-it's you who actually does everything that I get blamed for, right?" She smirked, knowing that would set her off.

"How dare you say that to me?"

Videl looked at Chichi, who asked silently, `is that her?' Videl nodded, as she waited for Crystelle to total blow up. However, her father's voice came over the line.

"Young lady, you come home right now!" he said from the mansion. `You know you're not allowed to leave! Much less to go to a boy's house!!"

"Dad, Gohan is my friend." She looked at the saya-jin and smiled. "One of my best friends. Would it be any different if I had went to Erasa's instead? I-"

"Didn't finish your chores!" the champ cut in. "And yes it would! Crystelle told me this Gohan or whatever is a troublemaker!"

"But dad it's not me, it's Crystelle! I've told you that a million times! And Gohan is not a troublemaker! He's the sweetest guy I know!"

Chichi grabbed the phone from the girl's hand, an enraged look on her face.

"How DARE you call MY son a troublemaker?!" she roared. "The ONLY troublemaker is that BITCH of yours! Your poor daughter came here to get away from your hellhole and she is welcome at my home anytime! And I'll tell you one more thing! If you EVER call here again I'll personally call the newspapers and give them the proof that you are a big fake, cause believe me, I HAVE IT!!!" With that, she punched the off button with her thumb, cracking the phone in half. The pieces fell to the floor, each hitting it with a soft thump.

Gohan and Videl's eyes were as big as dragonballs-NAMEK dragonballs. Goten and Sato, now awake, stood in the doorway to their room, mouths agape.

"Wow!" Sato exclaimed.

Goten grinned. "Way to go mom!"

Chichi laughed, sweatdropping. "Well… Shall I make a bed for you then, dear?"

Videl finally came out of her shock. "Ah… are you sure Chichi? I mean…"

Chichi placed her hands on the girl's shoulders. "Videl, you really don't want to go back home NOW, do you?"

Videl laughed. "Not after that."

"Great! I'll fix you one in my room! We can stay up and talk! Oh, it'll be fun!" she said, running to the linen closet, talking nonstop. As she gathered sheets and pillows from the small space, she looked over her shoulder at to little duo that stood in the hall.

"Goten, Sato, I want you two in bed please!"

Goten nodded, frowning. "Oookaaay momma." He clasped little Sato's hand as he led her into their room.

Videl stepped over to Chichi. "Would you like me to help?"

"No, that's okay dear," the mother replied as she hurried into her room.

Videl turned to Gohan. "So where's your room?"

`Gee. I thought I'd never get to hear a girl say that one,' Gohan thought, smiling. "It's this one," he said, leading her into his room. He flicked on the light and moved to let her pass. She looked around at the large but simple room. There was a desk by the only window. In the middle of the room lay his bed, the sheets and pillows in place. Bookcases lined the walls, texts of knowledge spanning every shelf. A lone chair sat in the corner.

"I guess you were right before about the bookish thing?" Videl asked, gazing upon the library-like room. "Gosh… I've never seen so many books in someone's house!"

Gohan scratched his head, grinning. "Heh heh… You have my mom to thank for that. She is strict about my schooling. Very strict. I was surprised when she let me go to highschool, I mean, I had been homeschooled since I was three."

"Wow…" she replied, wondering around, looking at various books' names. "So do you like going to Orange Star High?"

"Yeah. I guess," Gohan said, looking out the window.

Videl stayed silent for a moment.

"I hate it."

Gohan looked at her. "Why? You're the most popular girl in school!"

"That's just it! I… It's been that way my whole life. Just because I was the daughter of a famed martial artist… Then because I `grew up.' I'm tired of all the attention I get from these stupid guys who can only think about scoring with me! Geez!" She frowned. "Sharpener is the worst… We actually used to be friends until junior high, then he got hormones."

Gohan laughed, trying to hide his blush. "Yeah…"

Videl turned to look at him. "Sorry, didn't mean to say that like I did…"

Gohan rubbed the back of his head. "That's okay."

"…" Videl tucked her arms behind her back. "You know you're different. You're not like the other guys I know," she said, smiling. "You're… sincere …and …fun to be around."

Gohan blinked. `Well… There's her nice side… I wish I could see that more often…' he thought, his grin matching hers. "Wow, thanks Videl." He looked at the clock, seeing it was around 7:30. "So…" he said, gazing back at her. "What are we going to do about tomorrow? You'll need fresh clothes for school and your work."

Videl thought for a moment. "Yeah… you're right. I guess we could stop by early so I could gather my things. Hopefully, dad will be cooled down by then and I'll be able to relax when I get home tomorrow afternoon."

"What?" Chichi entered the room. "Sweetheart, you don't mean that do you?"

Videl looked at the older woman. "I appreciate your offer, Chichi, but I'm only staying for tonight."

Chichi stepped close to the teen. "But what if he hurts you?"

Videl seemed taken aback. "Daddy? Never! It's Crystelle I'm worried about."

Chichi crossed her arms. "Hmm…your father's girlfriend?"

Videl nodded. "Yeah. I know she's looking for blood because of a tiny little mistake I made. She's just that type of person." She looked to the floor. "I promised myself and mom that when they get married that I'd get out of there. I just… I just wish I could stop it some how…"

Chichi put her hands on the young woman's shoulders. "Don't worry dear. I'll help you!"

"Really?" Videl asked, hopeful.

Chichi smiled. "Of course! We'll come up with something later, ok?" She clapped her hands together. "Well, how about I draw you a bath dear?"

Videl's eyes widened. "Chichi, you don't have to be so giving! I don't deserve it…"

"Ah-uh!" Chichi waved her finger. "You're a guest in my house dear! And by the way things sound at your house, you haven't relaxed in a long time. Just follow me! I insist."

As Chichi left the room, Videl turned to look at Gohan, who smiled.

"Didn't I tell you she was great?" he said.

Videl nodded. "Yeah. She sure is something." Both teens laughed, before Videl went to catch up with Chichi. Gohan sighed.

`This is a problem… Just how am I going to get Videl and me to school tomorrow without her finding out… EVERYTHING?'
