Chapter Five

"Bait"

Shai trudged through the forest, dragging Trunks along with him. He had paralyzed Trunks, so now he could only look around for the help that wasn't due to come...yet. Soon he would reach where Vegeta slept. If only that little wench hadn't known to keep moving Vegeta around! He grunted at the thought of her and how many time she had foiled his plans. Well not this time. He had it perfectly planned. He had all he needed right in his grasp. Yes, Trunks was all he needed for his plot to succeed. Once Vegeta got wind that his son was in danger, he was sure to follow. And Cosorce wouldn't be too far behind him. He chuckled at how perfect it was. Then he'd finally have what he wanted...Cosorce would be dead.

He slowly approached where Vegeta slept. As he expected, his sound and smell reached Vegeta on the beach and he snapped awake. Shai gave him a glance of Trunks in his grasp then flew as fast as he could to the clearing Vegeta had slept in the other day. That's as good a place as any. He thought. When he finally reached the clearing, he set Trunks down and sat beside him, panting. Trunks kept trying to move and was so strong, Shai's magic almost couldn't hold him still. Now, Trunks lay on the cold grass, ridged and still. He tried to open his mouth to speak but Shai strengthened his hold on him and Trunks could only breathe and swallow his own saliva, for that was all Shai would allow. He wouldn't let anything ruin his plan this time. Shai chuckled at Trunks' helplessness but was cut off by a scream of "BIG BANG ATTACK!!!!!!!!" from behind him. Shai leaped into the air just in time, bringing Trunks with him. As he landed, he let go his magic restraint. Trunks spun around to punch Shai, but he caught Trunks' fist. "You're not needed anymore." Shai said, glaring. Trunks suddenly disappeared.

"What did you do with my son?!!" Vegeta roared.

"Relax." Shai chuckled. "The baby's back home, safe in his crib." Vegeta narrowed his eyes. "He was just bait, so you'd follow. And guess what? You're the second bait." Shai grinned and a familiar numbness overtook Vegeta. He groaned inwardly as Shai began his chant and fired a DDS at him.

Cosorce leaped from her tree. She could sense something was wrong and raced to where Vegeta was supposed to be sleeping, but he was gone. Cosorce cursed and dashed off through the trees. She ran as fast as she could to the clearing Vegeta had slept in before. She could feel his ki radiating from there, but it was getting weaker by the minute. Shai. She thought grimly.

She leaped into the clearing. Shai was crushing Vegeta with another DDS. Only this one seemed stronger, it was blacker than before. She had a feeling she'd have to kill Shai to stop it.

She undid the clasp of her cape and threw it aside, revealing a bow and a quiver full of arrows. She grabbed her bow and two arrows. She put one between her teeth and raised the other with her bow and fired at Shai's heart. Without hesitation, she grabbed the other and fired it as well. Shai turned and noticed them just in time to shoot them down with balls of fire. Cosorce cursed and dropped her bow and quiver to the ground and reached for her whip. She snatched it up and lashed at Shai. He put one arm up so the whip coiled around it. He yanked it out of her hands. Shit. Cosorce thought. All right then.

She made a fist with one hand and covered it with the other. "Draco Flare!" She yelled. A silver, dragon-shaped, beam-like something-or-other shot from her hands. It roared and turned royal blue as it launched itself at Shai. It circled around him, flexing its claws. Its colour melted to crimson as it roared again and circled closer to Shai. It hissed and shifted into a sparkling gold colour and squeezed around Shai. He growled and reached a hand out. The DDS crushed Vegeta around the middle. There was a sickening crack as a few of Vegeta's ribs broke. Vegeta screamed in agony. Cosorce's hold on the Draco Flare wavered. Shai gave her a look that clearly said if she didn't release him, he'd kill Vegeta that instant.
