The Loneliness of Immortality Saiyan Goddess

A/N- I dunno where I got this one, but I was sitting on the pot when it came to me...

Higashi no Kaioshin: -.-;

Sakki: But, it's starring my Kaioshin!! So, naturally, he didn't know about it.

Higashi no Kaioshin: Oh Kami, no, please no... what are you going to do to me?? (And why am I saying Kami? I can't say anything in vain... Technically, I am the highest God, since everyone else is dead... so what do I say??)

Sakki: Now now, it won't be so bad...

Higashi no Kaioshin: Says you. You're not the one who has to do sick, twisted, demented things like French kiss Goku or make love to *shudder* Bulma's mother!!

Sakki: Have I ever made you do either of those?

Higashi no Kaioshin: Well, no, but...

Sakki: See?

Higashi no Kaioshin: I guess so...

Sakki: Now, on with the fic! We've wasted enough room...

Higashi no Kaioshin: Anything having to do with moi is not wasted!

Sakki: I know. Gomen nasai

Higashi no Kaioshin: *takes her in his arms and holds her close* You're forgiven, dear Sakki.

Sakki: *blushes* Shinny-babe there's people here... cut to the fic before they start to suspect something....

Higashi no Kaioshin: *chuckles softly* As you wish... *he begins to caress her b-*

Higashi no Kaioshin sighed, nearly bored to tears, drumming the tips of his slender lavender fingers against the hard, cold armrest of the platinum throne he was residing in. It was adorned with rare gemstones and jewels from the four quadrants of the universe, and the edges were gilded with gold and other precious metals gathered from across the galaxies. He was in the throne room of his palace, listening the relentless monotony of Kita no Kaio as he went on and on about the North Quadrant. The short Kai didn't seem to notice the annoyance that marred the Higher God's otherwise beautiful profile.

"Kita, that is quite enough for today, thank you." Kaioshin spoke up curtly.

The Kai looked up from his list of debatable issues that reached from where he stood to the door at the far side of the room and stuttered an apology for disturbing His Royal Highness's meditations. Quickly leaving, the wooden soles of his slipper-shoed feet tapping against the floor, the lesser God all but ran from the room. Kaioshin sighed and stood, stretching, his aching muscles stiff from sitting so long in that confounded chair.

"I swear, if I get one more scratch from a diamond sticking into my side here, or a ruby jutting at the crick in my neck there, I'm gonna blow that chair and this castle to bits!" he muttered to himself.

Making his way over to the window, he threw open the shutters and gazed outside; all that was out there was white. A strange fog surrounded the whole palace, and it was beginning to worry the people below. But Kaioshin didn't care, he liked the fog; that's why he had summoned it there. He was tired of doing things for everyone else, never thinking of just Kaioshin, the highest deity. But did anyone ever think of him? No. No one ever gave a thought to the Supreme Kai, the ruler of all the Gods and all the mortals below them. He controlled everything, could have anything he ever wanted... and yet he couldn't have the one thing that really mattered...

Sighing, he walked out of the cold stone room, making sure not to make a sound as he went stealthily down the hall to his private quarters. He didn't want to risk being spotted and having a hoard of Kais jumping out at him from a dark corridor.

Luck was with him and he was able to make it to his room and lock the door before anyone noticed. Casting his shirt to the floor for the servants to collect later, he walked into his lavishly decorated bathroom; more of a pool, really. The room itself was huge, with a large circular bathtub in the center and two showers on each end. It had originally been for the four Kaioshins, but since all but him were dead, he had it to himself.

Stripping the rest of his formal wear off, he grabbed a towel and headed towards the center bath. Leaving his towel on a nearby table, he sank into the heated water of the pool, letting it flow over and around him. He sighed and just soaked for a moment.

All at once, the memories started returning; of the other Kaioshins and how they had shared this bath. There were benefits to having the bath all to one's self, of course, but he still missed them... after all, they had been the only family he had ever known. There was always a unique camaraderie between them, a bond of knowing there was no one else to share their true selves with... without each other, they had no one. And now, they were gone... all of them. He couldn't come to any with his problems... after all, who can help the most important being in all of creation, if he himself can't?

"I'm lonely, aren't I... yes, that's it." He closed his eyes. He had considered taking a lover, but he or she would just end up dying... and he couldn't go through that again. Losing Kibito was enough; he hadn't even had time to mourn his friend's loss before rushing off to battle again. But that was eons ago... now, the Earth no longer needing his help. The Son family and Vegeta family's offspring were good enough protectors... though not as good as their sires were. Or the Supreme Kai. No, they had a long way to go before they could ever pass Higashi no Kaioshin... but then again, they would never have to. Even though their forefathers, Gohan, Vegeta, and Goku, had surpassed him, they wouldn't. Because they wouldn't ever need to. Everything was too perfect, too well organized. Nothing could possibly harm them now.

The steam from the heat of the water had filled the room, and it now was acting as a sauna. Kaioshin almost failed to hear the soft tap of footsteps coming towards him from across the bath. Almost.

"Katrina."

The slim figure was standing on the smooth marble tile next to the bath across from him. "My Lord." She said. Then, "How did you know it was I?"

"How do I always?" he replied, sinking lower into the water and stretching.

Out from the misty haze of steam, a figure stepped foreword; She was about 4'3 and slender as a willow. Her darkly metallic sea green eyes glimmered like the stars in the night sky as she noted (with obvious disappointment) that the surface of the Higher God's bathing water was laced with a think frosting of bubbles that frothed up about two or three inches above the actual water itself, successfully preventing her from glimpsing anything below his abdomen. Brushing a strand of pale blue hair behind her ears, she replied,

"That's a good question... although, some of the townsfolk say that you're psychic..." she murmured. She usually didn't go along with the gossip, but she was curious about this.

"Katrina, how long have you been my personal assistant?" he murmured, letting the water relax is aching muscles.

"Um... one million fifty thousand eight hundred years and thirty three days." She replied, then added, "and seven hours."

He opened his eyes and stared at her, eyebrow raised.

She blushed and looked away.

"Anyway... so you, of all people, should know whether I'm psychic or not." He considered her for a moment. "Have I ever seemed to know things that I normally would have no way of knowing?"

She thought for a moment. Come to think of it, he had... she could vaguely remember him talking to some of the other Kaioshins about matters he couldn't have known about.

"That's why I had bubbles in my bath today."

His statement took her off guard, and she widened her eyes, realizing what he meant. She blushed again.

He only chuckled to himself. "So, what did you come here for?"

She gave him a funny look. "Don't you already know?"

"Yes. But humor me anyway."

"Well, as you already know, the Kaios are talking about you again... saying you'll need an heir... I disagreed, saying that since you're immortal, you didn't need one..."

He smiled at her. "You're always taking my side... but what if I were to die like the other Kaioshins... what then?"

She glanced at the floor, eyes closed. "You won't die."

"How do you know?"

"Because..." she murmured silently, "I won't let you."

He stepped out of the bath, wrapping a towel around his waist, and walked over to her. Since her head was down and her eyes were shut, she didn't notice. Her mind was displaying images of his death and she was almost unable to keep herself from crying.

Suddenly jerked from her trance at the feeling of a warm hand cupping the bottom of her chin and tilting her face up, she opened her eyes, finding them looking straight into the obsidian darkness of the Supreme Kai's.

Gasping softly, she tried to glance away, but his face was barely a half inch away from hers; the only thing she could look away to would be something on his face. Not that she minded; he was beautiful. But now wasn't exactly a good time.

He chuckled. "Oh? And why is that?"

Katrina blinked. "Why is what?" then, remembering her previous statement, blushed and said, "Because I wouldn't let anyone near enough to hurt, let alone kill you..."

"That didn't answer my question, but... I suppose I'll leave it alone for now." He turned and started towards the door to the bath chamber that led to his room. She followed.

"So, Your Highness," she began, but he interrupted.

"How many times must I tell you," he laughed, a soft melodic sound that made her heart skip. "Don't call me that. Call me Shin. You are one of my most trusted friends and allies. Continue."

She sighed and nodded. "Very well, Your High- er, Shin. Anyway, I was just asking if you had anyone in mind to be your mate."

He raised a pale, ivory eyebrow. "I have to marry her? I thought you meant I just needed to choose an heir..."

Katrina nodded again. "There's no one of your bloodline left; You'll have to have a mate and a child." After a moment, she added, "And you do want to father the child of a woman you love, yes?"

He considered this, then nodded. "It would be more enjoyable... for the both of us. I'll have to think on it."

She almost couldn't help the involuntary shudder that skittered down her spine at the words "for the both of us". Coming from him, it sounded so intimate...

Her eyes ran briefly over his muscled lavender chest and shoulders, and she caught herself blushing again. Forcing the redness from her face, she looked back up into his eyes. He was smirking, amusement dancing in his eyes. She couldn't keep the color away from her cheeks this time.

Kaioshin's look turned from amused to concerned; sure, most women were attracted to him... but he remembered how protective she had been when he mentioned his possible demise. And the images in her mind that had flashed in his as well. So... she truly cares... He didn't know if this was a good thing or not. They way she had felt... her heart trembling with grief. How long had she felt this way? He wasn't sure... She had been pretty good at suppressing her thoughts; although, he thought, regarding the elfish features of the girl in front of him, it does seem odd that I didn't notice how far it'd gotten... I know there was just simple attraction at first, but I didn't expect this. No, he decided. This is not a good thing. It's very dangerous to care for someone of my status... anyone trying to get to me will have her to contend with first... and she could be hurt or killed. Why was he thinking like this? They lost servants all the time... but Katrina, she was his friend. And he had very few of those. Very few that were authentic, anyway.

Noting his expression, the blue haired girl asked, "What's wrong...?"

He looked at her, his eyebrows etched together. She glanced away. He laid a hand gently on the side of her face that was opposite of him and pulled it gently back so she had little choice but to look right at him. For a few minutes, there was silence. He leaned his face closer to hers, so close that their lips almost touched; his expression was now serious and he murmured, "Do not concern yourself about me. If someone were to come and kill me, let them pass; for if it is a challenge to me, then they would certainly kill you. And if you die and I prevail, then I no longer have you. I can't have that." She could feel his sweet breath against her lips and she dared to look into his eyes. They were like burning coals.

She hastily nodded and back away, not trusting herself any longer in his presence. Bowing, she excused herself.

The Supreme Kai watched her leave, then left the bathing chamber and went into his personal bed quarters. After changing into a pair of loose jean shorts that hung just past his knees (he was very fond of Earth clothes, for they were far more comfortable than anything on his planet), he laid back on his luxurious bed, arms pillowing his head as he gazed up at the stars through the glass roof of his room. He had some thinking to do.

Sakki: So, how was the first chapter?

Higashi no Kaioshin: Not as bad as I'd have thought... which is surprising. You must have something especially awful planned.

Sakki: Naw... why would you think that? *evil grin* Heh, just kidding. Anyway, I'm not sure when the next chapter will be out... I'm not sure where I'm going with this.

Higashi no Kaioshin: YES! Lesser possibility for her to do God-awful things to me!!

Sakki: *rolls her eyes*

Higashi no Kaioshin: Well... I suppose it can't be too bad... after all, that Katrina girl is pretty hot...

Sakki: SHIN!!!

Higashi no Kaioshin: I can look can't I??

Sakki: grr... NO!!

Higashi no Kaioshin: Fine... *gets an evil grin of his own* So, I can't look at you?

Sakki: Hey! I didn't say that...

Higashi no Kaioshin: I didn't think so... *grips her shoulders and leans close to her*

Sakki: Shinny!! The audience!!

Higashi no Kaioshin: Oh, right... sorry. *cuts to the end*
