In shock, the two Saiyans stared at the planet hurtling towards them. Goku, suddenly snapping out of inaction, turned around and saw the trance-like, blank look of shock still on Vegeta's face. Without thinking, Gohan grabbed Vegeta by his torso and lifting him up in the air, Vegeta grunting, starting to yell, Goku hurled him towards his command chair. Stunned, Vegeta landed in the chair, one leg over the armrest, and a confused look on his face.

Goku, throwing himself into his own command chair yelled at Vegeta to snap him out of it.

“SEATBELTS! HELMET!!”

Vegeta, roused, frantically started snapping buckles, ignoring the view screen filling with nothing but planet. Both Saiyans strapped in and lowered their shoulder guards over themselves. They reached into the compartments below their seats and took out their helmets, fingers frantically working at buckles and snaps.

With Vegeta's last buckle snapped into place, his feet pressed against his foot guards, he snapped his head to the side to see that Goku was also ready. Both Saiyans' eyes briefly met, their looks hard, knowing that this could be it for them. They both faced forward and grabbed onto their arm guards and held on.

The ship started to skid across ground, forest, then hill. It rolled often, jarring its occupants almost senseless. The forest it rammed through thickened, causing the ship to roll relentlessly until it finally slammed into a large hill.

Hours later…

Vegeta opened his eyes, blinking at a red blur. His vision cleared and his heart started. A huge red splash covered the view screen and walls. Vegeta snapped his head toward Goku's command chair.

“Kakarot!”

He saw Goku slumped, unconscious in his command seat, his helmet still intact, his body covered in cuts and scrapes, but no gaping wounds. Vegeta's heart, beating rapidly, was ready to calm at the sight, but then in a panic he looked down at himself. Again, no major gaping wounds could be seen.

In confusion, Vegeta looked at the red liquid dripping from the walls and realized that the can of tomato soup had finally bought it.

“Fucker.”

Vegeta moved carefully, feeling his body tremble from the trauma of the crash. Upon standing, he realized that he was truly fine, just suffering from a few bleeding cuts. He walked on shaky legs over to Goku and looked at him, a worry frown on his face.

“Kakarot?”

Goku stirred and Vegeta sighed in relief. He started to remove the younger Saiyan's helmet. Goku blinked at him.

“Ve… Vegita…”

“Stay still until I can check you over.” Vegeta removed the helmet and had a look at Goku's head and body. Goku looked like he would be fine.

If either of them had an internal injury… Vegeta thought of the senzu beans, both natural and synthetic that they had stored in quantities of fifteen and 100 respectively, and decided to chance it without using them. They only had so many to last them.

“Kakarot, are you able to sit up?”

Goku sat up straight, his hand to his head. Goku saw the red dripping walls and looked at Vegeta in alarm. Vegeta smirked at him. “Soup.”

Goku just blinked.

Vegeta turned to look at the view screen. He was happy to see that it was still intact. Vegeta looked around the control room and saw that not much was really in disrepair. Still, it would probably take them some time before they could get going again. Then Vegeta remembered the readings on the Saiyan radar.

While Goku gathered his wits, Vegeta ran over to his command chair and reached in the compartment underneath, pulling out his portable radar. Vegeta strapped it onto his wrist and turned it on.

It took a moment to warm up, but then the radar blipped on. After a moment, the cluster of blips they had seen just before the crash reappeared.

Vegeta looked at Goku. Goku blinked at him, then said, “I guess it wasn't a fluke, then?”

Vegeta looked thoughtful as he stared at the blipping screen. He looked back at Goku.

“We've only traveled three days out of earth's atmosphere. Do you think it makes sense for there to be so many Saiyan's here? Wouldn't we have sensed them before, especially when you traveled to King Kai's?”

Goku looked down, still looking a little shaken by the crash. He stood up, testing his body. “No, it doesn't make sense.”

“But the thing about these radars is, there are three. How can all three be wrong?” Vegeta arched a brow at Goku, prodding him. Goku retrieved his own portable radar. He strapped it onto his wrist and turned it on. In a moment, he too saw a cluster of blips in the same area.

Goku, looked like he wanted to say something. Vegeta looked at him in question. Goku said, “Nothing personal, but every Saiyan I've ever met before wasn't all that nice at first. What if they are hostile?”

Vegeta smirked, then cocked an eye towards the radar. “Shouldn't you have thought of that question before this little reading?”

Goku in exasperation, “How was I supposed to know we'd find them so fast?!”

Vegeta had to laugh at the look on Goku's face.

* * *

Vegeta smiled. The ship had held up good. Damage on the outside was minimal, and he inwardly saluted his wife's technological brilliance. Goku was clearing away brush and the odd tree caught in the ship's outer casing.

They were both wearing Saiyan armor over royal blue spandex.

Vegeta checked the reading again and the blips were still in place. He interrupted Goku's brush clearing.

“Ok. The ship looks good. We've got water and food capsules. I say we head out.”

Goku turned, dusting his hands together. He looked a little nervous. Vegeta marveled, thinking, I've seen him fight -- what the HFIL is he afraid of?

“Ok.” Goku shrugged, scratching the back of his head. Goku nodded at the ship as they were about to start off. “Will the ship be safe, you think?”

“No one else can access it. I don't see why it shouldn't be. Are you particularly paranoid about something, Kakarot?” Vegeta sneered slightly into a teasing tone of voice.

Goku shrugged, looking embarrassed. “Nah! Let's go.”

Vegeta smirked as he rose into the air.

* * *

The two Saiyans were getting close to the identified area. Vegeta turned and stopped in mid air. Goku stopped short in front of him.

“Ok, I say we mask our ki. Then see how it goes. They should be just over that hill according to the radar.”

Goku nodded, looking determined. Vegeta smiled.

This is it! Vegeta thought. Finally!

They sailed over the hill and landed in front of what looked to be an abandoned space station -- unmistakably one of Frieza's space stations. Immediately Vegeta's stare hardened.

“Fuck.”

Goku tensed up, feeling ki rise all around him. “Ok, Vegeta. This doesn't feel so good.”

“Shit,” was all Vegeta said in response.

“Say more than that! What's the plan?”

Vegeta turned around. “Since when am I in command here?”

Goku's face poked out in surprise. Scoffing, “You're the one that always says you're the Prince of All Saiyans!”

Vegeta just grunted in response as he too suddenly felt strong Saiyan ki surge around him. His radar was blipping in almost a staccato and frantically he shut it off.

Both Saiyans took on a fighting stance, feeling the threat thick in the air.

Suddenly, upon him before he realized what was happening, a Saiyan warrior, disheveled, bleeding, wearing the revealing armor that had been worn by both Raditz and Nappa, seemed to materialize in front of Goku and made to attack him with a ki blast.

Goku jumped back, and screaming out of a combination of surprise and determination, Goku sent an even stronger ki blast at his attacker. As the two ki blasts met, they sailed through each other. One flew threw Goku, not even moving his hair. Goku's blast sailed harmlessly through the warrior, who seemed to dematerialize, then hit a line of trees disintegrating them. Goku blinked.

Vegeta feeling a presence to his right moved hurriedly away, sending a volley of ki blasts at the large, bald warrior, whose appearance was very similar to Nappa's. However, Vegeta's blasts went right through the Saiyan and his image seemed to dissipate.

Vegeta spun around and looked at Goku.

Both Saiyans blinked at each other, and then felt more Saiyan ki rise up in hostility around them. Suddenly surrounded by numerous warriors eyeing them with malevolence, Goku and Vegeta stood back-to-back. Vegeta, testing a theory, reached out a hand tentatively. His hand went right through the nearest warrior.

Goku's spiky hair rose higher in the air than it usually did. He squealed, “Ghooosstss!”

“SHUT UP!!!” Vegeta jumped, his nerves a jangle. He spun in the air and kicked through five heads at once, the visions dematerializing like swirls of smoke.

He landed and felt his back pressed against Goku's, the larger man trembling uncontrollably.

“OH, DON'T BE SUCH A BIG BABY!”

“Vegeta, this is definitely not cool! I hate ghosts!” Goku yipped as another ghost appeared next to him out of thin air.

Vegeta had to admit, that even though these visions didn't seem able to cause them physical harm, they were more than a little unnerving.

Vegeta looked at the space station, and made a face. “Come on. I want to have a look inside.”

“NO WAY! I'm going back to the ship.”

Vegeta reached out a strong arm and grabbed Goku, dragging him towards the space station, Goku's heels dragging in the dirt.

“No, you're not! You're coming with me.”

“Vegeta, how can the radar pick up their ki if their dead?!”

“You think I know!!”

They got to the entranceway and peered in. They heard further astral specters moaning within. Goku's teeth began to chatter.

Vegeta decided it might be best to hold on to Goku as he continued to drag Goku after him.

* * *

The entire space station was empty, strewn with thousands of skeletons, further freaking out Goku. They were all Saiyan corpses.

Vegeta didn't have to guess what happened. “It was Frieza. He blasted them where they stood.” Vegeta looked angry.

They continued to get attacked by angry Saiyan souls robbed of life so wickedly, but Vegeta was already getting used to it. Not Goku, though. He was thoroughly spooked and kept begging Vegeta for them to go. Surprisingly, Vegeta didn't lose his patience. He figured that if he weren't so angry, he would probably be just as freaked as Goku was.

“We could maybe take some of this stuff. It looks like it would still work.”

“NO! I'm not taking anything back with us Vegeta. I don't care what you say!”

Vegeta rounded on him, about to reprimand Goku with the fact that they were out in space now and had to grab whatever they could find, but he saw how white the other warrior was and just gave up. He knew there was no way he would be able to convince Goku.

“Fine. Let's get out of here.” Vegeta sounded defeated, and Goku felt guilty. Vegeta saw the look and burst out, “Don't look at me like that!”

Goku just blinked at him, perplexed.

* * *

Back at the ship, Goku didn't waste any time. Once the doors were snapped shut, he ran to the shower. Goku just had to get the feel of death off of him.

Vegeta just stood in the control room, a box of tools at his feet, looking at the broken pedals in disappointment.

“All for nothing.” His voice sounded hollow and tired.

Vegeta got down on the floor and started to work on the pedal's housing, when he realized that he couldn't get at the pedal without losing the light. He got up sighing and walked off to the shower to tell Goku to hurry it up.

Vegeta walked into the steaming room and was about to speak, when he saw Goku, his hair around his shoulders from the weight of the water, his face tipped up to the shower, eyes closed in satisfaction. Goku's body was covered in soapsuds that slid down muscles as the hot water brought his skin to a warm, pink blush. Vegeta stared at him for a few moments before he realized what he was doing.

Vegeta walked out without saying a word.
